Was messing around on the target gollums with the shouts and started watching how they gen life force. Normally i’d say that the LF gen is pretty obvious as Your Soul is mine generates 4% per target hit and all others either 0 or 1% per buff given (when using blighters boon). And this seems to be true for all expect 1 of the shouts.

With my stats 1% lifeforce is equivalent to 183HP, so 4% is 732 HP.

Your soul does exactly as the tooltip says and generates 732hp or 4% lifeforce per target hit.

Blighters boon only affects CTtB and You are all weakings as they give buffs so gain life force generation through it.

Chilled to the bone generates 2 stability per target hit so should generate 366hp or 2% per target, which it does. Not great but max 10% LF gen is generation none the less.

You are all weaklings generates 1 second of stability while casting plus 4 might per target hit, so can generate between 5-21 buffs or 5-21% life force. Which is potentially quite a bit of life force.

Suffer was the shout that seemed to break the rules as it has no life force gen in it’s tool tip and is not affected by blighters boon. Yet it generated 4% lifeforce per target hit so can spike up to 20% life force. I’m hoping this is more a missing tool tip than bug as Reaper shouts need all the help they can get.

In WvW that makes suffer and YaaW good generators in the melee, pretty much the same for PvE. sPvP though they lifegen wouldn’t be so high normally as you probably won’t hit 5 targets.

Might be interesting to people, or more likely it isn’t But they could be a reasonable way to compensate slightly for the Reapers slow life force regen…if only they’d drop the dumbarse cast times (other classes get stronger shouts with no cast time, and the only excuse we’ve been given for the cast is to differentiate them from other classes shouts).

At the very least, having a 2sec cast time on “Chilled To The Bone!” is a bit silly in a game in which Jade Winds exists.

At the very least, having a 2sec cast time on “Chilled To The Bone!” is a bit silly in a game in which Jade Winds exists.

All the casttimes are silly, when you see the shouts Tempests get. And quite a lot of them are no less, if not more, offensive oriented than reaper shouts.

My favorite is the .75 cast time on the only shout that is a stun break. By the time you get that puppy off may as well wait out the stun.

The argument for why we had cast times was because having offensive shouts warranted the counterplay of having cast times. Basically, most offensive skills in the game have cast times, in order to provide counterplay so you don’t just get hit with a few thousand damage.

In this case though, CttB and YSIM are the only two that have to have a cast time, one because its a heal, the other because it is a massively impactful elite tied to 2s stun + tons of chill + high damage. The others don’t particularly need a cast time, or at least not a long one, because they deal low damage (Ele has instant casts with more damage than the shouts) and they don’t have an immediate effect: NCSY gives you unblockable to hit them later, but they should deal with your attacks not the shout, YAAW is the same, gives you might but they have to deal with your attacks, and Rise! they should deal with the minions.

Overall, I think some of the shouts should be instant, or at the very least have 1/2-3/4s cast.

I think they should either be quick cast times like you suggest, or do higher damage. And that would fit thematically in that if you were to hear Death itself call you out, I’m pretty sure you’d die a little inside from the fear that invokes

Something I noticed in general about LF generation was that while Vitality affected the LF pool, it would also affect the % gained. When I had various levels of Vitality from pvp amulets, the GS 3 would vary in LF gained from 305-495. Same is probably true for shouts.

I don’t think that’s affecting percent gained so much as the raw number. Because higher HP = higher LF, that makes the same percentage look like more when in reality it’s just scaled up to the higher pool

Tempests have a shout, Feel the Burn, with no cast time, 20 second CD that outdamages all of our shouts except CttB plus it applies a burn and gives a fire shield plus might for every hit you take.
