I really hope this was just placeholder stuff. I don’t know about other race/gender combos were but Nolan North’s shouts sounded completely limp.

Was expecting the same sort of energy he brought to the death shroud voice acting, lines like “I am death incarnate” in particular sound amazing, but instead we get this completely flat and bored sounding line delivery.

I also noticed this. Even though shouts usually use the same type of VO characters normally have, I believe that Reaper’s shouts should have a much more dark and deep tone, like if it was death itself speaking, or sth like that. It would add a lot of immersion.

Male Charr Necro sounds pretty amazing, it’s so deep and rumbling. “Suffer” in particular has a great kick to it.

Some of them are definitely more tame than others – luckily for me Norn female’s shouts sound pretty vicious.

The male asura voice actor did a great job with the shouts, but I never heard the others. (The male asura voice actor does a great job with everything, though, so maybe that’s to be expected.)

Had no problems with it on male Norn. Then again, I am a big fan of what the VA has done so far, the voice truly sounds deep and powerful.

i did like the female asura though she actually sounded like she put some effort in it.

I didn’t play the Reaper, but I liked the human female sound of “you are all weaklings”.

Did not like the female sylvari voicework at all. YSiM in particular was far too fast and high-pitched; in truth, all of the lines sounded far too shrill for my liking. I’d prefer if Hale had used a deeper tone, a la the warrior’s “Fear me!” Ech.

I played male Sylvari for my Reaper, and… yah, most of them were pretty lackluster.

Your Soul is Mine was alright, but the rest of them sounded way too happy. I mean, I understand that Sylvari always have that sort of carefree sound to their voices in general, but I was expecting a little more menace for Necro shouts at least. Not Nolan movie Batman “growl” but a something at least a little more dark. Some of them didn’t really sound like shouts either, just kind of normal speech.

Also, it really bugged me that some of the shouts played a normal little “grunt” during the pre-cast animation before the shout itself. Probably was especially noticeable because male Sylvari have one or two grunts that are particularly grinding (the one I’m thinking of is a high-pitched “uwah!” type grunt). I can’t remember for 100% sure which shout it was, but I want to see either Rise or Suffer? Either way, hearing that high-pitched “uwah” before the shout made it even more silly sounding.

The Sylvari aren’t really “dark” in general, their view of Necromancy (lore wise) is one of curiosity and excitement, not brooding “I hate everyone grrr ::paints nails black::”.

Not to mention more deeply as a way to better understand themselves and the word around them. Consider how Trahearne is not only the First of the Firstborn, but also a Necromancer whose Wyld Hunt was to cleanse Orr. I propose that it would not have been possible for him to fully understand what he needed to do if he had been, say, a Mesmer or Elementalist.

So, yeah. I think the voice acting for the male Sylvari is perfectly fine

Male charr is overall my favourite voice acting in the game along with male/female asura and female sylvari.

I always thought the male norn voice acting lacked masculinity whereas male charr sounds like George C. Scott style raspy, deep aggressive commanding tone which made me do charr necro.

I have a male norn nec too because the big norn looks great overall but was always disappointed to male norn voice acting being too soft and nice sounding.

The case here is that the shouts have and have always had exactly the line the shout is.
Whereas when you go into the shroud they had liberty to make up something really cool to say when popping shroud which “I am death incarnate!” most definitely is.

One of the best gameplay voice lines overall in this game

My main guardian is max sized male norn and i would like the shouts and overall male norn voice acting reworked . They don’t sound commanding and masculine enough.

They are in fact in direct opposition to visual image of male norn guard which looks like the who guy who can’t ever die and if he does he falls as last man on the battlefield on his back so the enemy can see he’s the leader. Then he takes 2-3 guys out with him from the downedstate and says: Morior invictus!

It’s more like “You are ALL weaklings.” than “You are all WEAKLINGS!”

That emphasis seems incredibly Charr-like to me.

The asura female shouts on every class always sound so sarcastic in a cute way.

I played a male asura reaper and it was pretty fun. I admit though that – especially in reaper shroud – the voice should be deep and intimidating, maybe with some cool effects like we know it from Ghostbusters.
