Hi all,
Returning player needs some help here.

I quit gw2 2 years ago (before HoT came out) and came back a few days ago for path of fire. I enjoyed pvp before I left and I played necro a lot back then.

So the first thing I did was to queue unranked as a necro then eventually reaper. I had to relearn all the classes and the new specializations, which I am still trying to do.

I started as a condi reaper because condi seemed to be the hype but I did not like it so I reverted back to power. I love playing power so much more….BUT it is so difficult…I have no mobility, have no stab, I am knocked around like a rag doll most of the matches (stunned, knocked down, pushed back, etc). On top of getting ping-ponged left and right in most of the games, i realize I melt like butter despite having some toughness and vitality from runes/accessory. I kept thinking man, I suck! Until this one time I queued and someone from my team said focus their necro, always. I started to see a pattern where necros were called-targeted very often…then I began to connect the dots…that I am very often targeted in all team battles because i play necro

My question is, how do you guys stay alive in a team battle when you are constantly being targeted with all the CC’s, condis, and damage? I have a few condi cleanses (signet, consume condi, dagger 4) and yet I was constantly loaded on condis. If you can shed some light on how to deal with some meta classes, that would be awesome (example: how you deal with burn guardian, condi thief, etc)

I can 1v1 most classes okay but I cannot last 2v1 for help to arrive. When I try to run to reset or stay alive, I get chased down so easily.

I love the concept of a necromancer (especially a powermancer) and I want to continue playing as one. I have mediocre success with it because most people expect a condi reaper and willingly stand in my wells. So please help me survive better.

1st and foremost, and this is the most important part of this, stick to your team. Necros need an effective babysitter to perform effectively.

2nd, try using flesh wurm, and spectral walk, those should give you some outs.

3rd, accept that you are the most dangerous person on the field due to your boon hate, and at the same time the weakest, due to your lack of personal suitability, and as such, will always be 1st target. You need a good team to support you to survive.

in other words….

your useless alone as a class…
you will see the respawn room more times then dead enemies…
you need to be hard carried by others to be competitive….

Welcome back to the Necro………..

I took your advice and tried to stay close to my teammates. I still get focused down a lot, but I guess a little less?

Haha, thank you. So far, that pretty much sums up how I feel.
I got tired of getting insta-down so I logged onto my guardian (I have never PvP’d with her) and I felt I have so much more sustain! I do decent damage (although not as good as my power necro), I cleanse conditions so much better, I have lots of stabs, I ping-pong people around, I was amazed. I suppose all I can do for now is to keep trying different builds until I find one that works better =(

And this here is why i don’t pvp.I can’t be bothered to be camped forever, its just not fun.I’d rather watch paint dry and or pve.

Pretty much every class out dpses you and outsurvives you. Also:Watch out for rangers who will range you and kill you before you can down them, especially if they root you.Mesmers will murder you if you don’t have help as they have way more cc and dmg than you.Warriors will just blow you up in seconds and thieves well a good thief will make your life into a nightmare, a bad one will die to you.Thieves require loads of skill to master, because they are more difficult to play than a necro, and finally guardians:They will be immune got so much stab its impossible to kill them when they are tank build, as they will just immunize themselves and dmg you and laugh at you.You have to have buddies with you to survive and you gotta wait till their barrier is gone and be out of range so they can’t harpoon you to them. Also:Make sure to corrupt their boons, as that is one of their weaknesses.

I’m not sure if this suits you or not but I find MM necro to be pretty fun and still strong in spvp. I can’t remember my exact build right off hand but I know that it’s pretty powerful solo. GS / Axe & Warhorn, all minions and stack as much power, crit chance and health as possible. I think I’m running around 30k hp with 2.4k power and 50~ % crit. It’s by no means meta at all. But I’m having fun with it!
