Just a quick heads up from WPs recent video, Stats for the Rune are:

1: 25 Healing
2: 35 Condi
3: 50 Healing
4: 65 Condi
5: 100 Healing
6: Gain barrier wenn struck below the 50% health threshold (75s CD)

I literally just raced here to post this.

That 6 piece is disappointing. Even if it’s a massive Barrier (I doubt it), 75 seconds is an absurd cooldown.

Also, looks like I was half wrong on my prediciton for the rune. It’s main stat is Healing Power instead of Condition Damage.

Buuut, since nobody took me up on the bet, I owe no gold.

Barrier has to be 5k+ for me to even consider it, but i doubt its that high cause our heal Skill is only 4,5k

Yeah, Sigils, Spite line will get a rework, and what i have seen from the core warrior changes i hope that we get many more stuff changed. Hopefully DM to include barrier.

So the Scourge design that we have seen is to spike large barriers onto allies in order to pre-empt specific threats, but the rune spits out self-only barrier and you have no control over when it pops? Leaving aside the fact that these runes are pretty meh in absolute terms, those runes don’t look like they will help the scourge do any of the things a scourge might want to focus on.

Couldn’t we have the rune 6 do something like “grant barrier to nearby allies when you inflict fear”?

I agree that an active rather than passive proc would be more satisfying, not sure what active proc would work best though. My favourite runes are the ones that help me scratch my multiclakitten so ideally for me it’d be something that would be usable by other professions, which at least this is…

if my assumption is correct, Monk runes should already do that with the 10% out going healing. So if that is the case, it would need to be like 20%. But yeah I agree with everyone here. It’d be nice to have an actually good rune for necro for a change.

I do actually wonder if outgoing healing % interacts with Barriers in some way.

Anyway, my hope was that the 6 piece would grant noticeable life siphon or boost existing means of it when your Barrier is present on an ally. Or increase the amount of Barrier allies get the lower their HP is.

An emergency barrier is something, but being a pure % hp proc half of the time it will be useful and half of the time it will activate when you’re completly fine. With this hefty cooldown, I see it being useful mostly for stats rather than the effect.

They way its worded suggests it would. “Out going healing effectiveness”

But it doesn’t heal a single hit point. That means “Out going healing effectiveness” has no effect, because there is no healing happening.

I don’t know how I feel about this.

PvE automated defenses are of middling use. While they aren’t bad they aren’t especially useful, and I expect they will not compete at all with other runesets.

sPvP I am not sure who this is good for. The cooldown is painful for a lot of classes. I can see it having merit for Elementalists if the numbers are high enough, but this means you’d be forgoing Trooper’s runes as a tempest. As a Weaver you’ll be able to constantly reset your Barrier timer enough to turn this into real health!… If that’s how the Barrier mechanics actually work.

WvW, it doesn’t look horrible for Necro group play. Stats are good. Proc ain’t bad. Probably solid for frontline. But is it better than Durability?

I’m sure once we get more details we will have a much better idea. How big does the barrier need to be to be ‘good’? If the barrier is effective mitigation for every point, being a 3k barrier is exceptional- you just got an effective 300 Vitality from the runeset.

Maybe I’m optimistic.

I get what you are saying, but 8 seconds is a fair amount of time too. I’m talking about WvW here, like where you may be attacked 50+ times in those 8 seconds.

I can just imagine a Sentinel Spellbreaker running these runes with Hammer, stripping boons and CCing everywhere and then when you get it to 50% health, it gains an 18k barrier and also Defy Pain (I wonder how invuln will work with barrier), then after that, Defiant Stance into Endure Pain to fully heal up. Pretty crazy.

I was really confused by the difference between “amount” and “potency”, but I guess it means base barrier HP is 50% of ally health while healing power adds to that base value? If one healing power scales barrier HP less than 1 vit/10 HP/5 barrier HP (hopeful but not likely), I’ll probably keep dps stats in armours and runes and only stack healing power in accessories and weapons.

Also curious whether getting hit under spectral armour still generates LF if the damage is absorbed by the barrier. Nourishing Rot trait’s ICD made me feel like LF generation is gonna be pigeonholed to utilities (or axe/x sideweapon, can’t be trigger happy with axe #3 so it doesn’t corrupt boon which can be turned into torment/burning lol).

max barrier is = to 1/2 targets health.
amount of barrier is determined by casters healing power

Huh, that sounds even more grim if there’re healing power thresholds to gain integer amount of barriers. I guess that makes barrier survivability, lf generation to keep them up, and how much stats sacrificed into healing power into something for trial and error instead.

From my understanding the skills that grant barrier scale with healing power the same as heals. As in its X+(HP*Y).

I thought by “amount of barrier” he meant “maximum number of barriers”, not barrier HP – since he said “max barrier” later which couldn’t have meant “maximum number of barriers = 1/2 target’s health”.

Welp, I see now that basically healing power conversion to barrier HP is >at most< 50% of target’s HP. That was rather slippery even after reading ingame chat, forum, and reddit :P
