Sadly necro may not be my main ;(
I’ll likely change simply because they look like a more polished and fun to play class. Necromancer and its abilities are very stale and dated compared to the revenant (Wells, spectrals, etc). I mean realistically, I have to ask myself, why play a ground AOE power build or some single-boon LF generating abilities on long cooldowns when I could play unique mechanics with a lot of play and inner synergy? It was bound to happen, necromancers aren’t the only ones this will affect in this way, but because of the similarities, I do think it’ll affect them the most.

Yea, from what i saw the revenant seems able to do the condition absorption/transfer playstyle and his skills do not look like they take 2 decades to caste. On top of that it looks like the class will have mobility similar to mesmer or a guardian as in lots of blinks but no skills like warrior’s rush, so mobility is looking better than necro.
Unless they make big changes to the necromancer i think i am swaping it for revenant, and i mean changes like the gw1 dervish skill and adrenaline redesign.
Revenant even has that dark or evil look to it, in malyx form at least so even thematically it can replace the necro.
I think its time to retire.
Mallyx’s healing skill is literally a carbon copy of Consume Conditions, with the added bonus that it grants Resistance. I didn’t get to see all of the utility skills, but I feel like it could potentially wreck this profession if they don’t significantly change things in HoT.

it doesnt clean the condis, and the resistance is 2 s

And the resistance comes from a trait not the skill itself (though you will probably always use the trait if you go for mallyx).

it also applies weakness to yourself which is quite debilitating especially if you go into duration.
I missed the POI. Is it up anywhere to view, or do I just need to wait until next week?
I dont know if a condition necromancer will enjoy playing a revenant with mallyx long. Apart from resistence they seem to have nothing against conditions. I think a good boon removel will destroy all those condition mallyx revenants rather fast…
To me the revenants dont look like the master of conditions. More like the apprentice of Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
guys, go to dulfy and just look at the revs traits. it makes the necros traits look like the short bus menagerie of kittened traits. I mean, our minor and major traits look so freakin terrible that I fail to see how a specialization is going to make up for ANET’s inability to improve the synergy of our traits. I see why, they spent all their time looking at how F-ed the necro was and said, well, let’s not do that again, but let’s not waste any time trying to fix what we did. instead lets create a new class, and the disenfranchised necros can just pay to play a new class that will have what they want, minus some kittenty unresponsive pets and some damage conditions.

This guy gets it, king corruption condi necro will wreck amateurs.
The Dhuumfire thread
Guys, just wait for the specialization to come out, we know little right now to say it’s gonna be better than necro/necro specialization. Take it easy and wait.
Lol most of the necros that are saying they’re going to jump ship for Revenant, only say that because its new. What these people fail to realize is that there’s hardly any cleanse, and long durations of whatever conditions you apply will definitely outlast the boon. Not only that but if they sit in Mallyx the entire time they they don’t have any stunbreaks aside from Legends swap, so Fear/Terror them when Resistance is down and you’ll eat them up easily. Necro will have much better condition handling just based off of what I saw in stream video for Revenant. Transfers and consume condition with any sort of boon corrupts will make Revs hate you.

I certainly will play revenant but i dont think i will use mallyx in pvp. While really strong, it feels far too risky against anything with boonhate. But i hope, on my necro, i will see many mallyx revenants. It is too much of a hard counter.

Great post. People should be reading it.
I also don’t like the lack of customization. You can swap those skills but you can’t really change them. Plus, the dwarf legendary wasn’t very impressive to me. Mallyx seems like it has some potential, but condi Necro will wreck it from the way it looks now, and as fun as that seems, necros have sooo many condi tools, and they rarely get used because in practice it just doesn’t work out.
The revs any doesn’t seem good to me. But it looks a lot more fun to play and that’s what I’m jealous of for now.

Intersting, i found the dwarf legendary stronger then the mallyx one. Though as a necro the demon one seems more interesting…
I mean a 3 second taunt (which can be used more often) or a aoe that gives stability (even if it is weaker), weakness to the enemy and a lightning field.

The taunt used half of their energy pool though. The elite seemed pretty weak too, but maybe it reduces damage by a whole lot.
It sort of seemed to me like it may compliment the DPS legend. I’m guessing there will probably also be a support legend? Either way, it didn’t look like it would be a main utility set. I did like the hammer though.
The Mallyx jump-well that shadow steps people out of the well seemed really really cool. I Also really liked the mace/axe weapons, although I didn’t notice much soft cc there. But mallyx seems very weak to boon removal.
Here is what I noticed.
Revenant has:
Better weapons
Better traits
Better utility
Necromancer has:
Better burst resistance
Better condition resistance (and will eat condi Revenants alive)
I really want some of those traits. Like the boon rip traits.
mallyx is way too risky to play with, and i would – and will probably hate fighting necros as revenant..
as for the tanky legend, the taunt uses half ur energy bar, but its pretty strong, and a nice way to set up a dmg spike
u use ur taunt skill , swap legend to get energy back, then u got 3 s to do whatever u want ! unless enemy stunbreaks~
also , the stability change is kind of like a buff to necro i guess? terrormancer.

I prefer to see it as an indirect buff to Well of Corruption. All of the stacks will still be converted, but since it’s likely there will be more skills that pulse stability…

What you can do with that is drop Well of Corruption on the pulsing Stability Skill and just give everyone fear

So Revenant is being marketed well, I see. All part of the hype train to get people interested in the expansion.
People have said it everywhere: they can’t make Revenant look like a bad class, so they are probably speaking greatly to its strengths and highlighting what it CAN do. Did they mention what shortcomings the class will have? What will it struggle against? If not, then all we have is theorycrafting the new class with all new expansion things against current Necro with current Necro things.
Seems like a silly comparison to me.
Also, the Stability change has me excited for various reasons, most of which probably stem from me being a Necromancer and a WvWer.
“He’s like a man with a fork in a world of soup.”
They can’t really show all its weaknesses when we know about 50% of its total skills and traits (at most).
Mallyx looks super weak to return condi pressure, which means you would hit them with a lot of condi pressure to force them into Jalis (where they have a condi removal heal), where they won’t have nearly the same offensive pressure. But its hard to say when we don’t know their full traiting.

They also have a trait the removes a condition on legend swap. But honestly if they dont get more condition removel i feel they will be an easier kill then condi engies for condition nercos. The high resistance uptime they can get with mallyx will not help them much. In fact mallyx revenants seem to be an excellent epidemic target.

“Oh, you just pulled conditions off your allies? Here, let me give them back. Thanks for letting them all share the stacks!
While I am sure the revenant will have more weapons that solve these problems, the fact remains that having a ether a slow long range power weapon or a short range condition weapon THAT YOU CAN’T SWAP plus mid level hp means that both condi and power necros should be able to eat the class alive once we know what to dodge.
Everyone is on the hype train to leave necromancer and choo choo away on the newly reborn revenant. But don’t forget.. necromancer is love (terror) , necromancer is life (death) , it will have its uses and stuff, but I think everyone is just overexited because it’s a new professions and so. But I think against the condi-revenant a necromancer will be superior (atleast once we know skills-animations and so)
pls every1 leave necro so i will become more unique ingame … necro will always be my main ,and im continuing to do dungeons , fractals or pvp with him
and btw revenant have silly skills, i mean range hamer .. rly?, whats next? shield with which he will be able to do more dmg than with any other wep? , it will be good for alt but waaay from being my main , i would rather chose to have ele, eng as my main than revenant …
You dont even have to wait until HoT OP, try engineer. It work similary to revenant and it is better than necro in any usefull aspect (also much more fun to play since he press more than just 1 button).
1)In its core, necro is much better to handle condies manipulation. Necro is a light armor, high hp pool class. revenant is a heavy armor medium hp pool class. And necros have another set of hp bar. Playing condi manipulation with revenant will be like palying with fire, high risk high reward. a missplay will get you dead, i think this stance desperately rely on resistance, tkae it away from the revenant and he’s dead.
2) Lots of the new tech will be implented into the necro the same way torment had so no worries.
3)GS will most likly will give necros a mobility skill, necros true biggest weakness.
4)taunt not always > fear due to the benefits of condi duration – there are pros and cons to the fear being both condi and control effect.
Just saying that Mallyx Revenant will be like a gift from heavens for someone using Epidemic.
Another thing is…. I haven’t seen any block, evade or distortion on Revenant yet. This may be a pain and reason why some skills are as powerful.

It has a 0 CD ground targeted teleport that shadowsteps enemies out of the “impact zone” , though. But yeah, epidemic looks FUN against them. The biggest problem is…we Saw Rytlok tear things apart with a massive Shadow-Step-like combo, so there will be most likely a Thief-type legend coming , and, even though my main will stay Necro (or possibly Necro-Spec), i really hope it’s Shiro…but it will make the Revenant a pain in the kitten to fight.
I currently put my hope in
1. a mass rebalance for the new mechanics(eg. Plague Sinet getting "every time a condition is transfered to you, gain 1/2/3 s of Resitance so you can finally use it without getting #rekt in seconds)
2. Finally a PvE Condition rework (seriously, both current Revenant-Legends fit with the PvE meta just as badly as Ranger and Necro… I mean apart from eating up allies’ conditions, what does Mallyx really do in Dungeons that helps the party…and not even good Damage cause Conditions…and A-Net couldn’t leave the Revenant-specs useless in PvE, would they?)
3. The Necro-Specialisation. I pray for something that is higly PvE viable to provide alternatives to the 2-Ele1-Warri-1-Guardian-1-Thief-lineup. Something like Marjory’s Attack-String for the 1 skill with Life-Drain or Vulnerability stacking on the last hit (looks lkitten those would cleave just nicely , too), maybe a blast finisher, a repositioning skill and one of the new cascade skills…maybe a block/shield, and then for utilities something unique to help out the party…and maybe as the class-mechanic-twist “Utilities have 30-40 second less cooldown but cost x life-force instead”, and an upkeepskill…or maybe the upkeepskill will be the party help.
What do you people think?
(edited by Shiki.7148)
Most people think Shiro will be their other Legend, along with Glint.

For me it is less about Mallyx being cool or that Revenant will be better, but it is how well done the profession is. Necromancer is nearly the opposite, there is a very noticeable lack of polish on our profession. We have traits and mechanics that actively cancel each other, or in concept cancel each other (like on-entry traits vs traits that require you to stay in DS). We have extremely boring weapons and a massive lack of interesting play between skills. Throw in overly long cast times, bugs, and “features” that have been added, and Necromancer feels like a profession they forgot to finish as opposed to Revenant which looks incredibly well polished.

I agree, i still hope that at some point the spent some time actually fixing the problems of the necromancer and not just as an afterthought like all those balance updates.
