How to Condi Reaper on a budget
Everything I say is only in reference to PvE and WvW.
I’ve only every use aggressive Sigils on my Necromancer but I’ve been thinking about trying a Sigil of Energy on each weapon set. If you switch frequently, it gives you roughly the equivalent amount of Energy as if you had perma-Vigor, plus who doesn’t love having an extra dodge available whenever your weaponswap is off cooldown? Has anyone else given this a try?
I almost always have a superior sigil of energy on both weapon sets (1 per pair of mainhand/offhand) in PvE (dungeons). Dodge is such a core mechanic and necromancers have so little access to it compared to other classes (especially since last patch).
One neat trick is that if you put this on an offhand and only equip the offhand as the secondary weapon set, swapping weapons won’t interrupt your autoattack. I.e. you can use dagger/focus and nothing/warhorn, with superior sigils of energy on the focus and warhorn, and you can swap between them without interrupting the dagger auto attack chain. Of course, you don’t get access to a secondary mainhand weapon in that case, but it could be quite useful for quite a lot of bosses that are melee-heavy.
This post will make Necros all over the world OP ;P
I’ve been using Sigil of Energy on my PVE main weapons for a few months now, and I can tell you it works like a charm! ^^
I usually am the last one standing and since I’m switching weapons every 10-20 seconds (depending on situation) this sigil really makes my class alot easier to play.
But I would really like an actual change similar to this sigil to complete my necro! (plz dev-team)
Wonder if guardians would use this sigil. Maybe they would whine less. Oh well healing just isn’t cool, everybody like to see big numbers.
I wanted to have it but I don’t want the dev to think this is the right way for us. Also it doesn’t match well with on crit sigils.
well i use sigil of energy ON EVERY CHAR I HAVE, on my guardian staff/focus, shield. on my thief xbow/pistol, on my mesmer focus/staf/GS, on my necro staff/focus/WH/dagger,
i just cant live with that xtra dodge in fights, i dont really need those on my guardianhaving 101% time vigor but its neat to triple dodge on lupi XD. but in Necro its… AWESOME!,
Sigil of energy = AWESOME!
I keep energy on my staff in wvw because I only ever switch to it in a fight if I am in trouble. But it seems to be more helpful than anything else I can put on there.
Have it on my focus. But id rather not be forced to use it.

^ Seconded. I run the same on my staff and for the same reasons. I do like having that extra dodge when it’s needed. Even more so since the Deathshroud damage overflow nerf.
Think i said it multiple times already, since the ds absorb got removed, for any harder dungeon you need energy (you can either outheal with a competent or use hydromancy with pugs for easier dungeons since its close to the same effect without losing as much power as with energy).
I’ve experinmented with Sigil of energy of energy a few times and its nothing short of fantastic. Its a great way for any necromancer Power, condition, Glass cannon or tank to survive in higher level fractals or arah. Simply swap and bam your off. Its to bad my tank build is already extremely tight and I cant have 2 weapon swap sigils (main and off hand) so I cant use this. So instead I make do with orrian Truffle stew which lets my endurance regenerate 40% faster lol.
Also one I find myself recommending to condition-mancers as of late is rune of Adventure which I think would combo well with energy. Adventure ups condition damage and power while giving you 50% endurance on heal. Put the 2 together and I don’t think necromancers would have evasion issues again XD
Do weapon swap sigils activate upon exiting DS?
Sometimes they do. In WvW I occasionally use a staff and focus that have hydromancy instead of force or battle just for the chill and extra AOE and when I exit out of lich, Death shroud or rally they sometimes activate to my shock and that off my enemies. So I would say there is a good chance that sigil of energy may do so as well.
Take not I am not sure if changing form actually counts as a weapon swap or weather its just a glitch so it may not last forever

It’s not something I know for sure, but I know that those sigils usually have a 9 second or so ICD. So perhaps if you have a weapon set out for 9 seconds and then go into DS it can activate the sigil. But you may need to wait another 9 seconds before switching weapons again in order to get the effect again.
I’m not sure but it seems worthy of testing.
Thanks, guys, good discussion! I’m going to seriously consider using these instead of the sigils I have now.
Do weapon swap sigils activate upon exiting DS?
I just tested it in the Heart of the Mists and they didn’t seem to.
DS, while being a transformation, doesnt technically change your weapon unlike others, so it doesnt proc weapon swaps (ele attunements and engie kits used to be the same, but they fixed it for em).
Is there any problem using Sigil of Earth on scepter and Sigil of Energy on staff about internal cooldown?

Shouldn’t be any problem with this, but you couldn’t, for example, use 2 “on swap” sigils on the same set.

Yeah, if Sigil of Earth procs, you won’t be able to get the Sigil of Energy boost for 5 seconds (and vice versa, so using them on the same set will prevent you from getting Sigil of Earth procs for 9 seconds). So unless you’re sure you can notice every single time when you get a Sigil of Earth proc, it’s probably not a good idea to use these two sigils together.

All sigils with cooldowns (including on-swap sigils, which have a 9-second cooldown) share the same cooldown.

On swap sigils dont share a cooldown with on crit sigils.

They do according to the wiki. I can test it in the Heart of the Mists but I’m pretty sure the wiki’s accurate.
EDIT: Tested and confirmed. Though I misspoke in my example in implying Sigils of Earth have a 5 second cooldown. Still, swapping during the 2 seconds after it procs will prevent any on-swap sigils from activating.

They definitely share, or used to last time I ran both. I used to run a Battle Sigil on my staff opposite two Earth Sigils and at first wondered why I only got the might on swap like 50% of the time. It’s because the Earth Sigils fired off so much the 2 sec cooldown was still going when I swapped, and thus no on swap effect.

I just tested it in the Heart of the Mists and they didn’t seem to.
Remember that on swap sigins procs when youre ‘’in battle’’ so you have to be in battle and dodge x2 times + F1 for testing if this works on DS or not

Yes, I know and tested it after tagging a golem.
