So is necro good?
Necro is Good
Server : Anvil Rock (Since Release!) [SOLO]
yea
It can be good, but you have to work twice as hard as you would when playing other professions.
Pretty much inferior to any other class in game:
- Mesmers are better as summoners
- Thief can stack conditions faster and do more dmg per tic
- Almost any other class can dish out better physical dmg when traited for it
- The buggiest class ingame
- Very little build variation
- Stunbreakers are not that good since plague signet “fix”
The only thing that is unique and useful to this class is the ability to transfer conditions from allies to enemies (with signet of plague and staff). So that is my opinion about my class.
It will be great if we ever see a patch, ever.
Definitely playable, but unfinished.
In WvW you can be very useful in stationary zerg vs. zerg situations, both a conditions based epidemic and a wells build can really put the hurt on. For roaming there are better options though.
With the predominence of bunker builds Necro is very useful in tPvP at the moment, but sort of a one trick pony. Engy and Guardian bunkers rely on boons and Necro is one of the two classes that can reliably remove them. Guardians in particular melt if you just look at them.
In dungeons the many combo fields are nice, but you need good teamwork to make use of them.
There are a ton of bugs though and the traitlines and some weapons need serious attention. Generally speaking the Necro is the most tanky class in the game outside of specialized tPvP bunker builds. If you like a somewhat slower pace and can deal with the bugs it can be a rewarding class to play.

It’s buggy yes, but playable. My main is a Necro and I find the class to be fun to play.
Leveling the Necro was tedious and I often changed my build. That might have been due to lack of experience and understanding as to how the class works. But my then experience was that the class is not fun to level when playing solo. Later on you will be able to solo multiple opponents without breaking a sweat.
You won’t do burst damage, this is not a flashy class. Personally I think that the Necro excels in outlasting mobs (I cannot speak for PvP, mind you). With DS you get a second health bar and if you choose to take Plague form as your elite skill your survivability improves even more. Also you’ll be good at spreading your party’s damage. E.g. when a large number of players attack a champion during an event there will be huge stacks of conditions on that boss. You can spread all these conditions to other mobs.
P.S. Don’t even think about using minions. You’ll develop an urge to punch your monitor. :P
No.
Have fun playign it for 3 months and seeing 0 fixes
Good? They’re kings of pve.
Pain Killer [pK] | Blacktide EU | PVE: Corruptionmancer | PVP: Support Wellmancer
if we are talking viability, necro is at least equal if not more viable than the ranger, but that is beside the point. play a class because you like the class, disregard viability.

I have no idea why people say this. I think they Engineer is far more difficult to use than Necromancers because of the sheer amount of awkward skills they have. Necros are quite simple in my opinion. Also part of the reason I think Engineers need more help than Necros. Their skills need more refinement/polish. To much just doesn’t make sense.

No its not.
And Hammerguard Engineer is a top class in WvW, spvp and tpvp it does not need help at all.

How can you say things don’t make sense on the engineer. I love my engineer because things for the most part do what they are meant to do or say what they do. The first time i used dark path I didnt notice it had a projectile that had to connect with a target before it ports me. I thought i just had to deal with that horrible cast time, but nope slow bloody projectile for the win. Our traits are horrible and we even think we have a trait line that does not work at all because we can find no 30% increase to our life force at all. So a stat on trait line doesnt work or most of think it doesnt work.
