It’s like 3 pages of minor / major bugs which is the problem. Either way Jon Peters is afraid of how strong the necro will be when they l2p so I guess he needs to buff his warriors some more.
He even had to start the bug fix thread in the warrior forums just to make sure people are 100% happy with that class.

You mean compared to other classes that can basically just become invincible or turn invisible?
Death Shroud, in my opinion, is one of the worst survival mechanics in the game compared to what other classes get. And this is coming from a mesmer main, not a necro main.

The 2 best necro utility skills, corrupt boon and plague signet, are both bugged. It’s stupidly annoying when you use corrupt boon on someone, and it does nothing except for poison you. And plague singet not removing conditions from allies is just as annoying. Until these 2 skills are fixed I really do not intend to play necro…

Miner bugs? You can not use pets at all! Well, ok, at low lvL you can, but ones you reach 30, pets are totally useless.
Pets not attacking mobs, they just standa round doing nothing. Oh power master, do you get yoru ars handed to you? Dont mind me, Ill just stand here lauging.
Nice, just a miner bug in one of our FEW specs we can play.

Pets die if you jump into water, and if you get back up right after, ALL CD’s are at max. Hurray.

Yupp. That is just a miner problem. We just ahve to lern2play as they say. The pet AI is working as intended.
One thing is for shure. Im not touching my necro until the class is fixed. Ill stikk to my guardian.

How about adapting and trying out other skills until they fix those? Could be a nice change of pace to try out other sides of the class, no?
What some people fail to realize is that you have tremendous amount of freedom. I have to admit, I got stuck obsessing about my “build” as well. And I spent a good deal of time running only that and refusing to change anything as I was afraid I’d “break” it. After a while it occurred to me that what I really enjoyed in BWEs, was the experimentation. So, I went on a different route and tried something new. I used to fancy signet of the locust, quickening thirst, plague signet, etc. Those are bugged at the moment? Oh well, I’ll try something else.
What I’m trying to say is, give the developers some time. Yes, bugs are bad. Yes, I’d like to see them fixed, too. Considering how fresh the game is, it’s in a pretty solid state.
I know cookie cutter approach is appealing, as majority of us have grown accustomed to it (same goes for me – looking up viable builds in various because I’d be punished later on if I did something wrong on the way to top). It just takes some time to get this aged approach out of our heads.

Minions? Never was a MM type of guy, I liked Blood Magic and Curses in GW1. MM feels largely too one dimensional and uninteresting to me and is not the playstyle I usually shoot for. Signet of the Locust is bugged and heals for less when you trait for life steal (WTF?). I’d use Signet of Undeath if it generated Life Force outside of combat, but 1% every 3s IN COMBAT makes me wonder why this ever made it out. It would have been a neat way to give Necromancers an outlet for LF generation outside of Staff/BiP but it really fails to deliver. At this point, if your team needs a skill like this, get an Engineer with Elixir R.
Wells, these I actually like. Some people complain about the duration vs cool down. Some of it is valid but they’re still plenty effective when utilized correctly. The current five 1s ticks makes them a lot more viable than before. Though the direct damage element with Curses being the primary trait line for Wells makes you question why it’s split in such a weird way.
I believe nothing needs to be said about Corruptions, they’re great and probably the best thing Necromancers have going for them right now.
So I feel I exhausted most of my options now, I’m moving onto Guardians and Mesmers where I feel their variety is actually viable. Consecrations or Shouts bunker? Works decently well. Offensive spirit weapon for pubstomping? Works too.
Heavy conditions with Sharper Images and boon removal? Mesmer’s got it down. Direct damage with phantasms and shatters? Works out pretty well too. Confusion with glamour fields? Not 100% on this yet but it performs.
And that’s the problem, other options actually work out for other professions, something I cannot fully say about Necromancers.

I couldn’t disagree more on pets being useless. With the exception of the AI being buggy and them not attacking occasionally and personally feeling the cool downs can be tweaked a bit, necro pets are fantastic. They provide a meat shield in higher end content, the golem’s charge is fantastic AOE cc and even works on most bosses, the flesh wurm in dungeons when left to its own devices pumps out a fair amount of DPS as well as being an excellent escape tool, when solo your shadow fiend can soak a fair amount of damage, bone minions while I don’t find great for dungeons since they don’t leave behind a poison cloud upon self destruction are nice to power though that group of 4-7 mobs you just pulled and the bone fiend while lack luster is nice in place of your wurm while solo/preferable in dungeons over minions.
TL;DR: Polish pet AI, QoL buff a few talents and MM Necro will be enjoyable for the masses.

This is a phenomenal thread. There are so many moving pieces in this game that this is a great way for you help us track issues. I will sticky this thread and get working on fixes for these right away. It might be a week or so before you see these changes in game. I would encourage other profession forums to do the same thing so that we can iron out all of the kinks in skills & traits so that we can more easily figure out which aspects require balance updates and which are just a matter of bugs.

In its current state the class is levelable. Once your 80 have fun laying wells down and giving everyone combo fields so they can do better while you just apply debuffs to YOURSELF because your signets are bugged and your minions (especially golem) troll you!
But its fine, OP just needs to go more into power/crit and spam DS according to Jonny. Even though that bar is pretty much eatin in 3hits unless your tanky, but then your not DS build so your doing it wrong

That explains why the necro still has bugs unseen by the devs NOT why necro is the only class that hasn’t recieved any changes. Coupled with the fact that necros have more bugs then all other professions combined and somehow anet wasn’t aware it’s pretty pathetic. I’d fire the entire QA team if I was the PM.
You realize that almost all of the changes this patch are nerfs and not a single one of them is a bug fix?
Smoldering Arrow: This skill’s casting time has been reduced.
Buff
The Prestige: This skill now requires full recharge if it’s interrupted at any time.
Bugfix
Retaliation: This boon no longer reflects damage received from siege weapons.
Bugfix
Rocket Boots: This skill is no longer usable underwater. This is a temporary change until we can figure out why players can launch themselves into the sky using this skill.

I stopped reading after this. Necro has close to zero freedom. They have to run scepter MH, dagger OH isn’t 100% neccessary, but it’s by far the best option. They need to have staff secondary. Then for utilities, without corrupt boon/plague signet you are pretty much crap, so you have all that freedom to pick the last utility skill.
Then for traits, you need 30 in curses, at least 10 in SR, 20 is best. So then you have 20-30 left to spend, which is ‘ok’ freedom, but when you consder we have very little useful traits, the freedom is not there.

oh but this one had change for necro. Necros can get retaliation with trait& death shroud or axe.. so with retalitation fixed (and nerfed in sense it now isnt effective way to destroy siege weapons.) necro got one fix/nerf. hurray ?

lol. necro have lot of freedom? seriously? if you want be any usefull to your team on tournaments you must almost use this: staff + scepter/dagger , rabid amulet (not we get much from precision since our atack arte is weak but still, is best than the shaman amulet with compassion and low condiion damage). plague signet and epidemic need those utility and the otehr should be corrupt boon, problem is that skill is so bugged i dont use it anymore and i change to blood is power at least it work.
elite is plague no doubt. why the hell i would want a power/crit necro buil on my team if exist much much much better classes doing that job? ot if i want somthing to defend points exist much much more better than a Necro tank.
this is all teh freedom Necros have on tournaments, dont forget that 30 points on curse everyone need to use. i use 30 on curse, 10 on spite (decerse singet CD ) 20 on DM ( greater marks and reaper protection) and 10 on BM (mark evasion). the freedom on necro tournaments build is basically where you spend those extra 40 points on tarits beside 30 curses…. no doubt is lot of freedom

A good necro tank is just as viable as a good guardian/engi tank. I play m necro tanky, and I always get told by enemies at the end of games that I’m hard as crap to kill. Necros have freedom, just less of it due to alot of the freedom being jacked because of bugged traits. Also, a power build necro will never be as good as a power build of any other class, and it is because 90% of our abilities with any weapon stacks some kind of condition on the enemy, with an exception of axe, but the damage that does and how annoying it can be to land that damage with no way of being able to stop the enemy from just casually walking away from it, is next to useless.

I can’t go into the same detail as some of you guys but it is a struggle for me to get to level 20 (19 at moment). I just “went out” tonight with my buddy who is a level 17 necro. The amount of damage he can do to level 18’s is awesome compared to me. I really don’t want to start a new character at this point but I really do think the necro is underpowered. I don’t want a pistol but I want something equally effective at the same level. In GW1 my necro was cool and effective but now it really sucks. There is no comparison to the sort of put down power suggested in the early videos
