So sick of the lack of stability
I do think we need to be alot more powerful to make up for our lack of stability and invuln.
I do think we need to be alot more powerful to make up for our lack of stability and invuln.
and our lack of mobility…
if a class is designed to be the least mobile they better have the ability to easily deal with multiple opponents who are disengaging and resetting the fight
The necromancer is lacking a lot of things… No way to disengage, no mobility, no stealth, no invulnerability, very little stability (only on an elite transformation and a grandmaster trait), an awful teleport that basically needs to be summoned before you go into battle or it’s useless… Also necros only have 2 terrible stun breakers, and they both have long cooldowns (90 seconds, 60 seconds).
By the way, elementalists are getting a lot of nerfs next patch… A lot. Arenanet clearly only favors thieves and mesmers – you know, the classes that can stealth and teleport all over while having useful utility and amazing damage in addition to that…

Yeah glad I’m not the only one, I run DS-Stability all the time and it does seem to fail on a lot of stuff. I’ve gotten killed through vamp rune mist form too…

Yeah, the runes of vampirism are horrendously bugged:
1. When your armor is damaged, you have to unequip every single piece of the armor or the 4th bonus (next attack steals health after you heal) will not trigger.
2. The mist form seems to have random duration – sometimes .5 seconds, sometimes 3 seconds, sometimes 1 second and sometimes they just don’t work.
3. Sometimes the mist form won’t trigger until you’re downed – and when it triggers while you’re downed, you can’t move.
4. Sometimes the mist form doesn’t even make you invulnerable and enemies can still pound on you and kill you, while you’re left completely helpless.
I sent in a support ticket to arenanet at the start of last month and they responded by saying (a generic response):
“Thanks a lot for taking the time to bring this to our attention.
We do not have any ETA for reported in-game issued, but you can always keep an eye on the news forums as that is where we post the patch notes every patch, https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news.

Ehehehe.
“So sick of the lack of stability.”
Ehehehe.
And then. Like. Thieves.
You’re funny.
Yeah 8 months later …. Mmo companies need to start bringing in a complete new set of devs at release to fix all the things the originals got wrong and do it in weeks, not years. GW2 at least has no subscription because the servers would be empty otherwise. Necros can pick random combinations of traits and come out with something not much different than any min/max builds. Is this really something good?
another thing, does anyone even use the grandmaster traits? I mean, some power builds use the grandmaster trait, and if you want to go 30 into SR for stability, but mostly I dont ever go 30 into a trait tree, because they are so friggen lackluster.
Most of my builds use a grandmaster trait, although I’m sure there are plenty of builds other people use that don’t.
but do you think they are rather lackluster? I mean, they just dont seem to contribute a great deal, or produce very noticeable effects.
They are all very good, in my opinion, but 4 of them are limited to very specific build types (3 minions, 1 axe). For example, 5s DS CD is a trait that makes specific types of builds work; if it didn’t exist, there are a few builds that just wouldn’t work.

no, in beta our DS boons had a reasonable duration and got nerfed hard because that trait gave them so much up time.
common theme really
epidemic → stupidly short base condition times, crappy fear duration
DS life bar → very few other defensive options
I just came from a game where it was a 4 ele team. It ran a bunker for mid and had 2 roaming s/d burst eles.
Basically, the eles chained updraft and earthquake while forcing you to dodge out of dragon tooths, so you would be out of dodges to counter the cc chain.
I don’t get the complaints about mesmers I’d rather fight them all of them if it meant not having to deal with the absurdity of elementalists and bunker guardians. Guardians will just save their elite immunity for the wells and live through, and then you can’t touch them again.
These classes spamming boons, and bunker rangers just need to be dealt with.
At least thieves die fast when under pressure. Bunkers sacrifice very little damage relative to the huge survivability boosts they gain.
Once again anet, necromancers are kitten you can get knocked down with stability? in lich form, and in in DS with stability elementalists using air 5 knocked me to the ground. So the weak kitten stability we have is useless. GOOD JOB ANET you are continuing to just lose my patience with your game.
so sick of this clear love for mesmers and ele aoe and knockdowns while giving them so much kitten stability. It is so clear that they dislike necros and are in kitten love with eles, mesmers, and thieves.
play your own kitten game anet.
What a sensational pile of trash.
I like how you toss Mesmers (who get nerfed every patch) in there, who have 1 ability that gives them stability, and it’s hardly ever used. Thieves only get stability from Dagger Storm, which is used much more often but still only 1 ability.
Perhaps if you’re so in love with what the other classes can do, you should just re-roll?

Mesmers have pretty good access to Invulnerability….just a bit better than stability XD
Thieves can disengage and heal to full easily, so while it’s not stability, I can understand the OP’s frustrations.
Meanwhile the Necro gets to eat any form of CC and full burst combos from other classes because we have the almighty extra hitpoints mode.
You do have to have a love of doing things on hard mode to PVP with this class…

Mesmers have a 30 sec cd stunbreak that takes them out of the CC train. They can also predict the CC and blurred frenzy through it or diversion it.
The same can be said of thieves; escape skills.
On the other hand, if 2 kitten thieves decide to tunnel my necro they will stay on him till he dies 2 seconds later because there’s nothing the necro can do to peel for himself. They will dodge through reaper’s mark and that’s pretty much it for peels.
if I didn’t need the soul marks trait aswell as the fear duration trait in soul reaping on my condition build I would use the stability on both my condi and power necro. I had 3 potential interrupts last night whilst stomping a ranger and my shroud stomp saved my kitten cos the stability negated all the CC. otherwise I would probably have got downed trying to stomp this ranger. our stability is “ok” but I have to give up alot to get access to it.

If I had access to the trait that makes my daggers ranged, I would be so happy. And the death shroud one sounds amazing.
It would make sense for necromancers to be invulnerable to crowd control while in death shroud by default, though.. I mean, they have no disengages so at least they could give us a way to try and run without getting crowd controlled fifty times with no dashes to get away with.
I died a little bit inside when I saw what we had According to that post ha would be very over powered though I think. DS would turn us into an unstoppable face plunger.
Personally it’s the lack of our traits even working inside DS like siphon traits that make me insane. If Necro has to sit there and take it with no CC dodging ability at all, at least let us heal inside our ghetto self CC’d pale shadow of an invulnerability mode.
We should have some advantage for being the class that sits there and face tanks it out rather than cutting and running all the time, much less be begging for scraps for parity with classes than can
1) Block or dodge CC, 1a) Remove all CC at once through Invulnerability 2) Have the mobility to get away if they don’t like how the fight is going, and 3) Overheal incoming damage.
Our ‘invulnerability mode’ self-cripples us, and disables a whole trait line practically (Siphon)…great kittening design.
I need to stop typing now, I feel the aneurism coming on again.
I died a little bit inside when I saw what we had According to that post ha would be very over powered though I think. DS would turn us into an unstoppable face plunger.
Well remember, Thieves has immobilize on basic crits, eles a stun every 6? (or seconds and a 600 range aoe healing auto attack on a 1/4 cast time, 100 blades with 4 seconds recharge and guardians that apply Aegis, Protection, Regeneration, Vigor and Might in a aoe every 3 seconds just by standing around… (ok, points 2 and 4 still are kinda true but now at least require utility slots and traits)
Still i do think Shade should make a return as the GM SR trait as a lot of cool ideas from beta thus actually making 30 into x or y line worth something for build definition (kinda like ingering curses for condi scepter builds making 133% cod duration possible, the mesmer self shatter effect, venom sharing, etc).
As a pve player, I want Vigor and Invul more……

Do i have to call the (sisters of battle) Saladmancers of the Pact or will you kill yourself for said heresy, Life force for the Death Shroud, Skulls for the Necro Dev!

There was a reason Necromancers ate nerf after nerf after nerf from the beginning of closed beta all the way into game launch (via Epidemic). We used to be able to more or less facetank teams and have the damage output to kill them all.
Bhawb, I was not asking for pre-nerf abilities as some of those abilities were just SICK. That said, I was trying to point out the fact that we have no compensation for our lack of stability outside of DS’s secondary health pool, which equates to about 4 more hits from a thief while im stunned, knocked down, immobilized. We have no invulnerabilties, blocks, nothing to compensate for our lack of movement, or or lack of stability, just stupid transformations that are kitten in my opinion. Hell, i have even been knocked down in lich form. Do you know how stupid a lich looks lying on the ground getting upended with ele’s air 5? WTF?
With regard to mesmers, thieves, eles, they have the CC (true CC, not the limited chill/cripple CC we readily have access too) to stop you in your tracks, dps you down, and still have the evasion or abilities to get the heck out. Yeah we have an added HP that basically equates to no protection from CC , which makes you more vulnerable to being DPS down with no ability to counter. ( it just takes slightly longer to burst you down when going into DS).
It seems to me, that other classes have received a lot of counters to CC, the ability to cause CC, and the ability to do massive damage, all while healing or having a massive amount of evasions/invulnerabilities to evade, while we are left to be ping-ponged, face tanked, and die, unless we trait 30 into one trait line that gives us access to a useful stability. That does not even address our lack of escapes etc. How the f-ing kitten hell can we be an attrition class, when the class just knocks you on your kitten and gets away hands down. it is a joke.
One of the abilities i would like to see altered to pre-nerf state was DS2, where we could control our slow kitten teleport, and it was not blocked by invisible walls or terrain. Why the heck can we not have that back? That would make up for the utter lack of escape. And lets face it, our cripples, and CC does not push anyone away from us or allow us to get away. IF someone wants to be glued to a necro, its friggen easy. If someone wants to get away, its friggen easy. Its almost laughable easy.
In addition, I hope they add a DOT in DS that actually heals our health pool or does something usefull besides just another form of damage. I do not think we hurt for damage, i just think we hurt a bit for stability or the ability to counter CC, block CC, and movement on the battlefield. Damage, no, stability, battlefield movement big/huge/monsterous yes.
Heck, why not an invulnerability like redirect, instead of the necro taking the damage from the enemy, he channels the damage to his target, similiar to the ranger channeling damage to his pet. Call it deathly evasion or damage funnel or hokeypokey eatmydamaegdokey. I don’t care, but give us an ability to channel damage to an enemy target instead. SOmething unique, interesting and useful.

What I would give to start a kittened PvP game with something other than 0 life force.
Or to have a kitten teleport or a staff autoattack that actually hits moving people so a shortbow thief can’t just shortbow my powermancer to death while dodging my staff auto.
Spectral Walk should be a teleport in addition to its current effect, and spectral armor should be a 3-block stun breaker in addition to its current effect.
I would love for better life force generation methods rather than being forced into dagger 1 or staff with marks trait. Life force generation baseline outside of dagger 1 is horrendous.
And for goodness’s sake, please look at our puny heals. I wish my heals were half as good as my ranger’s heals or my ele’s heals.

Not the best wording, but better than anything the OP says.
@the OP – We have one of the top access to stability for a non-guardian or warrior class. We have 3 seconds on a 10 second cooldown, plus our elites. Rangers don’t get it this often. Only ele’s do and 90 percent of all ele’s never take it. The crazy part of the Ele stability trait is that it’s an aoe stability, that no one takes because 30 in water is way to strong, and 30 in Earth is way too weak.
So to recap and counter your point.
1). We have 3 seconds of stability every 10 seconds easily one of the best in the game if traited.
2). Only the Guardian and I believe the Engineer have easier access to stability. The elementalist is like us in that they only have access to stability on a Utility or 30 points in Earth. No one has it every 10 seconds.
3). The problem is not a lack of stability, it’s that outside of the traited Stability we have no reliable stomp or reliable escape. That’s not an issue of stability, but an issue with the class.
I dont know about our lack of stability but the stability on other classes is a little ridiculous. Finding targets to fear or pull can be slim pickings.
alts: Fangyre (Necro), Hardrawk (Ele);
Jade Quarry

That has more to do with Guardians/Ele’s spreading the Stability boon than it has to do with everyone having access to it. Corrupt boon Stability than you will see fun.
Stand Your Ground needs to have the stability changed or only kept for the guardian, make it give aegis to allies instead.
A 30 sec cd 6 sec stability+retal for your group is outrageous for a mere 30 sec cd.

Elementalist get it every 10 seconds 3 seconds of stability if they trait for it. Over 30 seconds when traited you have access to 9 seconds of stability. Guardians are the second most immobile class in the game except they come with no good ranged weapons there by they have a greater need for stability.

True that, Ive been thinking about it but I’d have to dump well of corruption which really does a lot more for me in large scale wvwvw.
(actually what I usually do is buff strip first with focus and hope stability is one of the two stripped)

Elementalists don’t give it to their group though. And I’m in full agreement that the stability duration of armor of earth from both the cantrip and the trait at 50% hp need to be nerfed, a lot.
The issue is elementalists and guardians have little need for ranged weapons when bunkering. Have a guardian stand on point, use his elite immunity for when wells are dropped on point and heal back up, go back to being a brick wall while making his teammates impossible to peel because honestly you can’t strip boons from EVERYONE reliably — the cooldowns on boon removal are much longer than the cooldowns on granting allies boons.
I just know my enjoyment of the game drops considerably when there are eles or guardians around. I’d rather fight more mesmers or thieves or rangers because at least those are not ridiculously bulky while still doing decent damage.
I love stealing that 30 second stability on my Mesmer

I know it’s not a common trait seeing as how it floored everyone when I picked it up for the elementalist tournament game
Grandmaster Trait XI – Rock Solid: Grant stability (2s) to nearby allies when attuning to earth.
It’s awesome for helping Necro’s stomp ;p.
Yeah taking that will end up taking from arcana or water, or you lose zephyr’s boon. It’s pretty nice, but I would run it mainly in a scepter condi bunker build.
The con to that is that if you need to cc with earthquake or blind with dust devil, you end up wasting the stability when you may not need it.
“What I would give to start a kittened PvP game with something other than 0 life force.”
This would be great and all but really, it is an easy workaround if you make sure you are the first one out there killing trebs, or an early gate (which is a great distraction if half the team goes to defend their lord) svanir/chieftan and make sure to build LF on downed players if you don’t need to stomp them, let others get the stomp. With 5 points in SR alone you should have no problems ‘starting with LF’.
On top of that there are always plenty of rock dogs, engie junk, pets eating your ally right in front of you that most people ignore -_- etc etc etc.
“I just know my enjoyment of the game drops considerably when there are eles or guardians around.”
Guardians I can care less because they can’t mount enough offense while being that defensive and they usually stack enough boons compared with light HP and light heals that they go down quickly to WoC esp as they are generally stuck there. Eles make the difference as they are a threat, while booning, healing up, and resetting the fight.
“IF someone wants to be glued to a necro, its friggen easy. If someone wants to get away, its friggen easy. Its almost laughable easy.”
Not quite…I have run down plenty of thieves with judicious use of staff chill, staff fear, and DS teleports, fears + warhorn + dagger immobilization. Same stuff in reverse and I can get away from three + people in a lot of scenarios. It’s surely not in the same universe as ele or thief mobility but it isn’t a 100% complete travesty of justice…at least in spvp where you can juke around obstacles etc.
Make sure to rebind your keys, you do not need Q and E for strafing and for me they are heal and staff fear, by the same token Z is elite for golem charge in my case and C is for shroud.
I’m sure w3 is another story with huge wide open fields for thieves to HS/Shortbow TP across, but I don’t w3 yet.
Necros are apparently meant to be somewhat slow, and despite this they are also supposed to outlast opponents by being hard to kill.
Thus I think that it’s fair to say that having more Stability would be the best solution to mass knockdowns, as Stealthing and Blinking are out of the question.
I think that the Necro way to do this was meant to be Fear but it just doesn’t work all that well in practice.
People doing knockdowns often also have Stability and you cannot cast Corrupt Boons while in a knockdown chain.
I suggest that Spectral Armor is buffed to also give Stability.
That way you’d have a solid alternative for the Plague Signet.
