Some points about Necrotic Grasp.
Actually I rather like this ability. Its cast time is , as most people would say, really really slow. Also the sound associated with it is by far one of the most annoying ability sounds in game for me.
I would looooooove to see this ability changed so that the hit area was a little larger. Possibly change the animation to something like a shadow wave projectile along the ground or something.
I think the cast speed needs to remain the same. They just need to increase the amount of damage that it does and the projectiles speed somewhat.
Slow weapons = Big damage!
I think we can all agree that the best fix for this weapon is:
-Increase the firing rate
-Increase the sound effect
-Decrease damage done
I don’t understand why we have a staff that turns into a SHADOW SCYTHE but we use our HANDS to throw a shadow hand instead of swinging our SHADOW SCYTHE to throw an attack.
That’s like defeating the point and not showing off the sweet scythe graphic.
The damage on the staff is already low. It needs to hit as hard as the Eng rifle if its speed is going to stay that slow. Or just a little less with the same attack speed. It does give us life force after all, so it can’t be equal to the eng rifle.
Really the staff just does not make any since as its 1 is a DD attack on a condition/utility weapon.
Staff 1 just makes very little sense honestly. At the very least it ought to do something like +10% damage per condition on the target.
I am also very disappointed with staff 1 on my necro vs. my staff elem:
Elementalist Fireball
- 27.6% more damage on staff elem #1 skill
- Fast travel
- Aoe on target
Necromancer Necrotic Grasp
- 21.6% less damage on staff necro #1 skill
- Slow travel, 50%~ slower
- Pierce
- Combo finisher 20% chance
- 3% Life force
I think the thing that really kills it is travel speed for me, it travels so slow that people can outrun it (yes they can)
Completely agree that it needs a change. Chronologist is right , i would say the traveling time does kill the skill. Slight travel time increase and some more base damage. Aoe would be cool too.

Faster Travel speed and perhaps a bump in damage would go a long way, or just faster travel and a slight bump in attack speed. Its never going to do as much damage as an Ele staff 1 attack, due to the LF gain.
I would be fine if they leave it the way it is and bump up the LF gain by 6%. Make it the Condition weapon to gain LF. It would make it feel useful.

I think staff gives good chunk LF (if it lands or pierce)
What I would like to see necrotic grasp change into:
- Travel time 75%-95% of elementalist fireball
- 2-3% more damage per condition on target
Anything more than that I think we would have to give up something

It sounds like Necrotic grasp would have to do combination of damage to make both condition/power necro happy
My list:
Pros:
- One of the best looking animations and best looking projectile
- It penetrates enemies.( No idea why since it’s a grasping hand and should grasp onto enemies)
Cons:
- It fires ridiculously slow
- You’re using a scythe to throw a hand. Why not a dark scythe wave?
- It basically does so much damage that a guardian can heal faster than your damage(based on condition builds which you will be probably using with a staff)
- You can basically run faster than the projectile making it useless
- The sound it makes hurts my ears.
- It does no conditions despite the staff being a mainly condition based weapon
- Did I mention it was slow yet?
