So this popped into my head while reading “ATTRITION: A Discussion” by Chips. My idea is to remove Spectral Grasp from our utlities and add it to Death Shroud renaming it as Dark Grasp.

Dark Grasp:

15-20 Second Cooldown
Damage: ???
Chilled: 5 second
Range: 900

Pulls your foe to you

Make the speed of the grasp at least 3-5x faster than before. Of course make the speed of Dark Path 3-5x faster as well

This should benefit all types of Necromancers (Except for the Glass Cannon Bursting Necromancers that like the 10% Life Force every 30 seconds in PvE) and it will be even more harder for professions to escape us.

Do you guys think this is a good or bad idea?

I’d like dark path if it was instant, kitten thing always misses in pvp when I’m chasing someone.

actually we need more life force increasing skills, it regenerates too slow to compensate for how quickly it’s eaten. Unless you have spectral walk/armor but I don’t believe in getting hit to regenerate life force.

No, especially when it can be traited to 15% LF every 24 seconds, which makes it an absolutely amazing way to get quick LF, especially when gras kitten uch (edit: seriously guys?) a strong way to start off a fight (when you have the lowest LF).

I’ve never seen any videos of Necromancers in WvW having Spectral Grasp in their utilities permanently. But I can see how useful that is, I’ll have to try that when I’m roaming later.

Ya Talentless, but the problem is that it’s still slow and easy to dodge most of the time O_O

Edit: I just tried this… it’s honestly not that great in 1v1 from my experience. I personally would’ve used other traits and used another utility. Even in a large group, I just think there are other utilities that would be much more helpful.

WvW, it’s best used to yank defenders off of walls. Dark Path is best to punish those Wall of Reflection guardians (’port them into your zerg and see how long they live)or to use on a mob for an escape.

I love it in theory but its awful in pvp where the projectile is evaded by side stepping practically.

If they would just make it an area teleport, like blink or shadowstep. I would be fine with it missing then too since I would at least get the teleport without the chill/bleed. Would make sense since its an AoE chill/bleed too. This would also add some mobility to the Necromancer.

Oddly enough through beta it was a teleport, and then they changed it to requiring a target. I really only use it to interrupt big heals, pull back a runner, or rush to help a teammate who needs help on a fight.

I have very rarely had Dark Path miss by something like side stepping, it is relatively fast and it homes pretty well.

In WvW, it can be really strong in zerg vs zerg fights, where you often square off from quite a distance away. Its pretty easy to catch someone, and whoever gets caught is going down hard (assuming the pull works fully, which doesn’t always happen).

I use it more in tPvP. I have it in almost all my non-ranged well builds, that way if they dodge out of the well, I just pull them back in (and its so close the only way it misses is sheer luck on their part).
Also in my DS build that uses spectral skills for huge LF generation, you can drop Spectral wall, pull them through it, DS 3 them through it again, then Dark Path back to them for 20 vulnerability, 9 seconds of chill, 3 bleeds, and 20% LF, and you are still right next to them, and besides wall, all your interrupts/chase skills will be up in 20 seconds or so.

@Rok, it depends on your build. In WvW most necromancers are using longer range abilities, in which case wells/corruptions are better suited. In 1v1 its all about what your build is. I would never use it in a condition build, but for a well build that instant pull+chill is great for stopping someone from getting away from your WoS spike. There are other uses, but they become more niche than that. It is quite a bit of fun to pull an ele who is channeling big spells though.
