Spectral armor in DS.
It is active while you enter in Shroud still if it had in his description that it will be deactivated. it’s a mercy bug ANet let us keep for our safety in sPvP and WvW.
You mean it didn’t use to work? that would suck.
Its good for fractals when u need to fight a group of mobs. Pop Spectral Armor then DS to tank for a few seconds.
Imo this is how it should be. If it deactivate when you enter shroud it would feel so dumb.
“Gain life force as you take damage. Removed when you enter Death Shroud[sic]. Also applies protection.”
Yes: removed when you enter Death/Reaper Shroud.
The same thing is for Spectral Walk.
Them both have 1 second of internal cooldown, then don’t rely too much on it outside of common PvE.
In theory, that two skills (expecially Spectral Armor) work as a Defensive skill that protect you while outside the Shroud, granting you a lot of Life Force and then the ability to protect yourself entering your Shroud Form, acting like a “meat shield” to protect you. It’s our poor and bad version of all the other classes immunity skills, that perfectly fit our theme but also make us bad.
If it would be made to be used while in shroud, it would also be activable while in shroud, but it isn’t.
The X Shroud Form is our strength and our weakness. In it, we (theorically) obtain high damage and a second HP bar, but we totally lose all our defensive abilities (unless for few bad traits). Following that theme, the Spectral Armor and Walk don’t grant any more LF while in the Shroud because we don’t have to be able to recharge the Shroud while in it (unless for death shroud 4 and reaper shroud AA) by an external skill.
That’s bad but thematically accurate. That’s what always kitten us.
We can only continue to abuse of this helpful bug that ANet don’t want to fix for pure mercy and go always forward with this great theme that make the necromancer beautiful as weak.
To be exact, this is not a bug. The fact that it work while in shroud was an intended change that happen in the 1st or 2nd year of the game. It’s just that it took them forever to correct the tool tip.
Also when the change was made, there was no ICD on the LF gain from the hits. The ICD have been made to tune down the survivability gained from the change since for the 2 wonderfull week without ICD the necromancer had became totally unkillable.

Correct. This and the original version of Blighter’s Boon (not just self-applied but every boon applied to you will heal you in shroud – now think about Herald’s pulsing boons!) show that Necromancer’s low sustain has nothing to do with class mechanics or not having blocks. It is just about tweaking some numbers on already existing skills/traits.
Spectral Armor and Blighter’s Boon as they were introduced would make Reapers unkillable.
Blighter’s Boon was overtuned but removing the ICD of Spectral Armor would solve lots of sustain problems for Necros as this would mean 6 seconds of immunity in shroud every 40 seconds. It would be the Life Force equivalent to Infuse Light (Herald heal).

Then explain this!

You are wrong, the +LF buff is still active in DS/RS and this is as intended. It was changed to be this way a long time ago.
Also of note, the Last Gasp trait can proc while you are already in Shroud, thus letting you enjoy the full benefit.
