SpiteX vs VIII-Chill ofDeath or Axe Training?
I have the same problem, i switch between the 2 every now and then and don’t really see anything that makes one more important than the other – Unless you dont run Axe of course lol
I played around with both and they’re both good
PvP and solo/small group roaming WvW I take chill of death. It is great for locking someone down, the boon removal is amazing, they don’t see it coming and in my build it hits for about 2k
PvE and blobbing in wvw I take axe training. More damage from the axe just does more in PvE than the utility of chill if death. In blobs, I like having axe3 on shorter cd
Axe training affects your life blast which is awesome but roaming in wvw I have just found chill of death to be more useful
Axe training, imo, is only really worth it in very specific builds (which probably aren’t optimized anyway) and the 30/10/0/0/30 style of DS builds that use LB (where axe training is really good).
Other than that, Chill of Death will generally do better for you.

My DS build is 20/0/20/0/30, Not quite sure which one to get, some times i use Axe Training and others i use Chill of Death. Still cant decide which one is “stronger”

I use 20/20/0/0/30 and found for me at least that chill of death works more in my favor, my biggest dps spike is in daggers and I usually only switch for range, boon removal or to semi kite when their hp starts dropping, which is where that trait is most helpful. I think your play style strongly depends on how strong and useful these traits are.
If you’re still using LB as your main source of damage I’d say Axe Training in any non-PvP scenario. In PvP (WvW included), I’d say its more up to what your build really needs more. Many Axe builds are packing Axe/Focus, in which case you probably don’t need even more removal. And that removal is the biggest reason to take Chill over Training.
Use chill. No need for axe in anything pve.
Condi or zerker? PvP or PvE? These things are necessary to formulate an accurate response.
If you run mostly Axe, want to make use of Life Blast or both, take Axe Training. If you don’t, run other things. Simple as that. Even the name of the trait is good tip, isn’t it good enough?

As with everything in this game, it depends on what you’re doing. I mainly play in large group WvW encounters, so I take Axe Training. Not necessarily for the damage, but for the cooldown reduction on Axe #3, which is a great skill in the format I mostly play.

Facing the same choice I looked at the following: which of the two will trigger the most often and/or remain active the longest.
axe training: applies pretty much 100% of the time you use an axe.
chill of death: will normally trigger only once per fight, for a one-time effect whose impact varies based on how many boons happen to be on the target when it triggers.
conclusion: if you use axe, pick axe mastery. chill of death is way too situational.

If you are not running axe, I recommend Training of the Master and choosing Flesh Golem or other minions instead of Chill of Death. You can get chill in other ways and Golem damage proc’s more often.
