Zikory – Retired Thief
Zikkro – Zergling Necromancer
I power leveled a Necro up to 80 to farm skill points for a different character so I didn’t get the leveling process to learn the class very well so I come to you for help. What I’m looking for is mostly for fighting in the zerg attacking/defending keeps. I want to focus on Staff Marks mainly but I also like the corrupt boon and epidemic utility skill. Right now I’m running 20/30/20/0/0 Mainly focusing on corruption/marks/bleeds and have rampagers/carrion gear because I was easily able to get it but I’m working on Rabid stats.
My main strategy while fighting is place marks around and find a class that tends to have a lot of boons to focus on, spam scepter 1 and 2 on them till they have quite a few boons and are in a large group pop corrupt boons then epidemic. Then rinse and repeat.
Like I said I have a total of about 8 hours on this character most of which was spent crafting to 80 and running from skill point to skill point. I feel like I’m doing ok in WvW but mostly just spamming skills with no real reason behind it other then to put it on CD and hope it does something. Any help on the build, gear, play strategy would be much appreciated. Also I’m completely dreadful in duels or small group fights so any tip on that would be nice but I’m guessing I just need to practice that one.
Thanks
When running with guilds, consider slotting in Spectral Wall and place it down when Veil is called for. Also, as long as you have a Staff and regardless of build, Corrosive Poison Cloud is severely underrated.
For most fights, if we’re pushing, I’d drop my Marks and Wells and slip into Plague Form for mass Blinds and Chills (Chilling Darkness). The target is to make my way to the back line and sit on them. If the enemy force is routed, the Chill will slow more walking loot bags; if the enemy is standing to fight, you’ll become a source of frustration and attention, easily drawing 10 people away from attacking your forces.
Plague form + chilling darkness and staff is all you’ll ever need to farm badges, scepter is really only for the smaller skirmishes and when you need to dump some conditions.
Just use skills that have a ton of aoe (Blood mark, epidemic and corrosive cloud are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G at tagging people for drops)
I haven’t had much success in terms of drop counts with scepter in wvw, but you might find someone in the forums who has.
Staff – Dagger/Dagger
I’m primarily focused on using my Staff when possible to put down Marks, but when I’m targeting one or two enemies in close range I switch to Daggers. I like Signet of Spite for the improved power with my Daggers, but more importantly I use this Signet to pop onto a target within a group, then I hit Epidemic to spread the love around. This works wonders against enemy zergs, but you would be wise to allow them to use their condition removals first by hitting them with some Marks if possible. Daggers is pretty straight-forward just don’t forget to take advantage of your Marks too for the condition damage.
Once Spite-Epidemic is out I go into Plague form and auto-attack #2 skill – Plague of Darkness. I can now basically stand in a group of enemies and not get hit unless someone with ranged weapons happens to target me, but even then your stats are so buffed you are a true tank “While in Plague form, the necromancer’s base power is doubled, base toughness quadrupled, and base vitality tripled”.
Finally, if anything is still alive around me, and depending on how much damage I’ve taken vs. the enemy I’ll likely jump to Death Shroud and use skill #4 Life Transfer for more AoE damage and to utilize it as another shield. By the time this is done I’m back to Marks or Daggers but that’s all very situational.
Spite-Epidemic from on top of a wall makes for awesome defense, especially if you follow it up with a few Marks. If you are attacking a tower/keep I suggest looking for an NPC and hitting them with Spite-Epidemic since they won’t be blocked by the wall, but will easily spread your conditions to anyone else up there. Then just keep hitting the top of the wall with marks.
I’m often one of the last standing if we are getting wiped, I have a visible effect on zerg movement, I get tons of loot, I do massive AoE damage but can handle my own 1v1, I make for great wall defense and I can push away enemies on top of walls during sieges.
