Hi! I’m not sure about how do i use Staff: as suport, utility only weapon or does it have any damage potential too?
When leveling (lvl 34 right now) dmg seems very high, but when i join PvP (and get lvl 80 stats) i found it more as a support weapon … I put my marks on the floor and then swap to Dagger or Scepter for dmg part. Any tips how can i increase Staff dmg, because it really suits to my Necromancer more than other weapons

Use it as both. You can offensively CC with the 5. You can offensively limit your enemies movements by putting down 2 and three around them— this makes them have to choose whether to eat the marks, dodge through them, or move in the limited space around them. Putrid Mark can be a very offensive skill if you manage to transfer a lot of burning, perplexity or torment.

Although staff auto attack is not going to be your best damage skill.

Do you think i should go more power or condi oriented build to increase damage of staff?

At its core, staff is a hybrid weapon. It has bleeds, poison, fear (traited damage) and a condition transfer, however, its auto attack scales based on power.

If you want staff as a main weapon I would recommend some stats like carrion, sinister or rampager. For pve, staff is not ideal for damage. But for wvw and pvp: power, condition and hybrid builds all can work effectively with the staff

Staff has weak condi damage output except in very specific situations when you transfer with 4. It has some secondary condi effects where you mostly want duration.

Its regards to being support or offensive, its pretty much like the Guardian staff. Its the best tool the Necro got. Yes it has damage and yes it has utility skills critical for Necro gameplay regardless of build.

Staff has low dps but also has the only controllable combo on land, only fear on a weapon, only regeneration on a weapon, is one of only two condition transfers on weapons, has more AoE than any other weapon, and is the only 1200 range weapon.

Staff is not very good when camped but its utility is strong given the weaknesses and gaps inherent in Necromancer’s other weapons.

The Staff is really flexible. It has both offensive and defensive capacity, as well as use for both power and condi builds. It’s really one of the best-designed weapons in the game, even if throwing 4 marks in a row is a bit bland. As such, use it however the situation requires.

Though it’s not that bad for power builds. At 600-1200, it has the same base damage as Life Blast, and though it doesn’t scale off power as well (.66 vs 1.0), it does have native piercing and refills your Life Force rather than draining it. It’s not amazing, but it’s decent enough so that I don’t feel bad spending some time autoattacking if I want to conserve LF and can’t get in melee range.

I main Ele and Necro, though I have an alt of each profession at level 80.

Everything I say is only in reference to PvE and WvW.

Since when did power skills have base damage?

He is probably only says that because the wiki shows 246 damage for both of them. To be fair the wiki pages showing damage makes the whole thing rather confusing since you dont really know what power levels they used for the numbers, atleast i dont see them.

But yeah looking at the coefficent is the important thing not the damage number the wiki shows.
