Q:
Staffmancer
Which build allow to use staff as pirmary weapon? As condimancer i use scepter+dagger, as berskerker – dagger/axe+dagger, staff only to place marks and switch back, i don’t like it.
Well, staff is a utility weapon, so while you could build around it, it wouldn’t be a great idea.
It doesn’t do the damage of dagger in a power build, and it doesn’t apply nearly as much condition damage as the scepter. However it comes with condition transfer (situational), AOE Fear (situational), and two all purpose, always good to use marks.
Building around it for WvW using greater marks can be okay in large group situations, but the cooldowns are going to be a problem since the auto attack is so easy for people to avoid.
Staff as a primary weapon would be fine for a support build, probably well/marks?
It’s also a primary weapon for MM.
guard ,nades eng ,Trap thief \ranger ,signet\shout warrior, zerk mes\ele & shiro rev.
^It can be, but it isn’t required to play MM, nor does it have to be the main weapon as an MM. If you’re specifically looking for a staff build I wouldn’t suggest MMs because it always falls to a secondary thing behind your minions themselves.
OP is probably going to end up in a support build of some sort. Shaman gear is probably a good choice btw.

Just to clarify a few things:
My build genuinely works with the staff as a main weapon. It’s not a support build, I don’t have problems with cooldowns even though I don’t rely on autoattacks, and most importantly: I don’t compromise damage to force the staff into something that it isn’t.
A lot of players believe that you can’t use a weapon as your main if the autoattack is weak, but that is just not true.
I don’t believe it is “you can’t use it as your main weapon if the auto is weak” as much as “if the auto is weak and the cooldowns are long, you really shouldn’t use it as your main”. Axe makes a fine main weapon, but the auto-attack is pathetic. The cooldowns are low enough (and #2 damage is high enough) to make it viable.
Mark of Blood certianly fills the “low cooldown” prerequisite, being the shortest of all our #2 skill recharges, but I’m not convinced it’s enough. It doesn’t hit hard like Axe 2 does and the bleeds are frankly negligible from it alone. Makes for a decent bunker weapon, though, since the regen applies whether it got dodged or not.
I just don’t see Staff viable as a primary weapon for us due to the combination of poor auto attack and long cooldowns. That being said, I never leave home without it for its incredible utility.
I ran a build early on in my necro’s life that was wells and staff, with tons of +healing gear, it actually healed people pretty well.

Well the main thing is that you could use staff as a main weapon, but usually you’re better off switching when marks are on cooldown. You might do this in wvw zerging though or maybe pve zerging invasions or something. But that’s about it.
Maybe something like this. Just 12345 when you see bad guys.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
I used staff as main in my old power/DS centric build. Since Ds#1 did more damage with a staff equipped (because it didnt count off-hand weapons). Now that ‘Axe Mastery’ dropped from GrandMaster to Master trait, axe replaced the staff as main, since it does more damage.
However, there are really a few build that doesn’t have staff as our secondary weapon ( only dagger/off-hand—Axe/off-hand builds)
It’s our weapon for AoE damage, traps, long range and sniping, and fast lifeforce gain. It has decent both power and condition damage, without beign best in any. So it’s the weapon that could fit in almost any build.
That’s why I think that Staff is THE Necromancer’s weapon.
(while still using a condition build with main scepter)
