Starting a Necromancer
A minion build is easy for levelling, if not a bit boring.
Once at higher levels condition builds start to shine (I prefer to power on necro)
In my experience with levelling:
- Get a main-hand dagger immediately.
- Unlock Well of Suffering for damage against any group you can bunch together
- Unlock Signet of the Locust for the 25% run speed boost at early levels. Later on you can use Warhorn & Spectral Walk to have easy, permanent swiftness, but Spectral Walk is kitten utility so you may not have access to it just yet.
As for dungeons with your guild, I believe that Spoj’s guide in this forum is still the definitive word on PvE Necromancers And How To Deal Damage With Them. Since they’re guild runs, you won’t need to copy it exactly for maximum possible DPS, but a read-through could help you find ways to quickly increase your damage.
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.
Weapons: staff, dagger/warhorn or dagger/focus
Armor: power, toughness, vitality
Skills:
Consume Conditions
Well of Suffering
Bone Fiend
Signet of the Locust
Traits (when you have Adept only)
Toughness (Death Magic) for Minion Master or Staff Mastery
Power (Spite) for Spiteful Talisman if you are using focus
Explanation:
At low levels, critical chance and hit bonus (Curses and Soul Reaping) do not do much for dps. Healing and Vitality are generally bad for Necromancer. There are few really good traits for someone leveling with only the Adept tier unlocked but staff cool down and minion respawn cool down are valuable. Focus cool down can help if you use that but war horn is good for stuns, damage, and swiftness. Spend scrolls to get the three utilities. Well of Suffering does a lot of damage. Bone Fiend does, too, and will both hold aggro and use ranged attacks for more reliable dps. It also has an immobilize skill. Signet of the Locust is the only way to go for extensive open world solo roaming. PVT gear should be your preference until close to L80. Staff and focus both have regen for yourself and your Bone Fiend – use them. Staff can burst from range using 3-4 combo and is a good way to start a battle as you close on a mob.
