I have completed about 5-6 quests. I think I have 3 attack skills opened up on my character and was wondering what people have done as far as adopting professions/skills and how they apply them? Thanks in advance.

Well, I would suggest testing out different main/off hand combinations for a while, as it will allow you to find out how you like to play the necro. I am currently lvl 50 on mine, and have gone with a staff/scepter-war horn configuration on mine – seems to work well for me, but everyone is different. Watch some necromancer vids on youtube, and see what looks like fun to you.

I have a level 55 Necro and I think it’s a really fun class to play. The problem I have with Necros so far, and I’m sure other professions have the same issue, is different builds require that you stack different stats on your gear. So if you want to switch, it’s not as easy (or effective) to just swap weapons. So I’d recommend going into the Mists and trying out different weapon combinations and see what you like. It won’t give you a complete picture, but it should point you in the right direction. That being said, when I started my Necromancer, I used Scepter/Dagger as my main set and Staff as off set. On my gear, I stacked condition damage and precision and that seemed to work until around level 45 when I got bored with it. So I switched to my current build, which is Dagger/Dagger as main, and Staff as off set. Dagger/Dagger seems to work really well and does good damage. Axe/Dagger also does a fair amount of damage. I’m now stacking Power and Precision on my gear. I’m more of a glass cannon at the moment, but that’s ok because I have Death Shroud to use if I’m in a bad situation. Some people like the staff, but I only use it as an AOE when I’m doing dynamic events and need to hit multiple mobs.

Here’s my current build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/en/?fQUQNAoYWjMaF7JbSb87JgpHZzt3QK612IFEfMA;T8Ag0ynEOJdS9kyJKpMSJkyWkTKpUrQGRMJA

Hey there! My first character is a necromancer and I have been playing the class since the earlier betas. Right now, I’m at level 80 and I can personally assure you that you’ll enjoy the class.

For professions, I took tailoring since it fits the armor requirements but that aside, tailoring bags can become a very profitable business. Once you get it high enough, you can make quite a good fortune for yourself selling bags on the trading post.

As for builds & skills, I generally run 2 builds depending on what I feel like doing. For both builds, I use Staff as main and Scepter/Warhorn Combination. The staff is generally because I find marks to be a very effective and likewise, the range ensures that you can keep kiting the enemies as needed. Scepter gives you bleeding, a mass cripple, and a burst spell dependent on the number of conditions on the mob. Warhorns give you a daze on demand skill and a swiftness on self plus cripple on enemies buff (always useful).

Build 1: Minion Master

The first is an all out Minion Master build. Despite what people say about minions being stupid, a little maneuvering can help make them work. Albeit, they remain stupid unless this is done. I generally find this build to be fun as it makes you quite tanky while having enough utility and dps from minions to give you a fun experience in PVE.

Build 2: Wells + Plague

http://gw2skills.net/editor/en/?fQAQNBmWDbESrSPTTUjfPBM9g8xFHSxt6Gpo4hB

This build I run when I feel like playing with zoning and generally having great utility. With this, you have 25 seconds of damage negation with blindness + chill combination, great self and AoE heals, mass AoE DPS and AoE conditions, and with death shroud, almost a guarantee that you should not die unless you really found yourself in a bad spot. With this build, I can generally solo numerous mobs in the end game zones and I find that this build is very useful to parties for dungeon raiding as well (in dungeons, minions tend to lose effectiveness quickly due to being one-shotted.)

Anyway, I hope you have fun and welcome to the ranks of the Necromancer!
