Is dire gear worth getting on a necro? I’m currently using full rabid for my condi build. I know they’re making a lot of the ‘on crit’ runes into ‘on hit’ runes. But I still feel like losing all that crit is too big of a loss.

I guess I’m just asking is, should get it now for later or get it now for right now?

It is a preference thing. If you feel like you need the HP take it. Otherwise don’t feel obligated to. It synergizes better with Scavenging runes and tuning crystals., but not severely so. The crit change is also not huge as dire trinkets have precision on them, so either way is not a huge difference.

Dire is bunker-conditionmancer. You do not get power or critical hit chance with this gear but you do have survivability. A lot of players favor this stat type for Necromancer because it is one of the three types that give maximum condition damage; essentially bypassing precision. Traits and trinkets can get you power and crit chance so this gear can do fair dps with a hybrid build but will fall short of a total berserker. Alternatively, you can use this armor to further build a bunker conditionmancer for as good a survivability as there is but your “burst” damage will be not so dazling.

I’ve been slowly switching from exotic Rabid to ascended Dire and definitely recommend it. There don’t seem to be any ‘pure’ ascended Dire trinkets, so I still maintain around ~30% crit chance from Rabid & Rabid/Dire hybrid accessories. I’m still missing a few pieces, but sit cozy at 23k health, 16k DS, and 2.6k armour without buffs. In WvW that can climb to 26k health, 19k DS, and 2.8k armour. No points in Death or Blood magic, for what it’s worth.

You dish out as much damage as ever and can still survive being run over by a freight train when things go south. With the Dhuumfire change coming as well, I don’t see myself going back to Rabid gear anytime soon.

… It feels kinda OP, but don’t tell anyone that.
