Where do you find minions useful?
PvE.
Minions can tank bosses, while dealing great collective damage, and mitigating damage to the user. In any situation where boss position is not essential, they are an amazing contribution to the team.
During the Dragon’s Stand meta, I use Minions to tank Axemaster Hareth while everyone else ranges the boss.
I also use it during dungeon bosses where stacking is not crucial, such as Mai Trin.

I run them both in PvE and PvP (though they’re not as durable in the latter). I never visit WvW but I’d take them with me there too! They’re my lovelies <3

1) power with no defense ie beserker I run this
2) condi with no defense ie viper for spreading possible condi’s as traited minions take condis off you and transfer them to the foes
3) power with some defense ie mix of beserker and soldier if you’re feeling like you need extra survivability… I guess…….
4) condi with some defense ie mix of viper and dire ^

→ When the going gets tough as extra damage sponges, also as counter-condition.

→ No. The whole point of minions for me is to run a counter-condi build with crazy DS survivability(best I did was maintaining 35 stacks of poison(and not dying) during a Silverwastes middle path boss, DS was pulling them onto me and keeping me alive as fast as the minions were pulling them off me back onto the boss.) The LF gained from that was nerfed the week after I did that. That nerf is probably my fault, in all reality.

Welp, only really have sets 1 + 2, and of those I stick to 2 for that.
i find the flesh golem and flesh wurm and rise to be good and at least worth to consider bringing simply because their activated abilities work well.
blood fiend, bone fiend, shadow fiend, bone minions i find all these minion don’t work well, unless in a minion master build. I think their activated abilities could use a buff.

Minion usefull:
Yes, in some cases, dungeons/fractals with minions are not so fun….a least not as long as you want to be stacking a lot, and want to be serious. On a troll run/fun run with non-experienced guildies why not?

I would use traits most of the times mostly with condition builds, I might take Flesh golem in builds for a tank, also untraited.
I used minions on all kinds of gear, including zerker (before HoT), Vipers, Rabid, and I’m consideing Trailblazer as I run an alt necro now (Other Viper, but I also have a zerker somewhere, but do not like GS, still loving condi/corrupt/epidemic.) and then still clad in full Rabid and I use it when my daughters are sleeping lightly (so I can AFK a while and come back and see Minions bodyguarding me while AFK. Build is rediculously tanky though.

I am a PvE player, so I can only speak to that. I find minions very useful in the open world while I gather materials. They distract foes. I especially like the flesh golem and bone minions. The bone minions are nice little bombs that can be useful for range damage. The only thing I use all shouts for is the world boss circuit. Minions can be slow and some world bosses die fairly quickly. I prefer the shout when I am close and I need to do quick damage. No need to wait for the minion to attack.
