Q:

Hi i was looking into the game and wanted to know what stats really define a damage hybrid necro. Currently i need to know this in order to explore the varieties of gear, fearing i might spend money on something useless.

I am sure many of you have seen this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKcDOIgEGLU

i was hoping to EXACTLY copy that (yah im unorigional). This is my FIRST real MMORPG and am currently enjoying it, even though its really confusing. Also if you could be so kind as to answer this question and another. What do the stats even mean? IE: power, toughness, vitality, etc. Thanks a ton and see you in the vast world of Tyria.

what stats really define a damage hybrid necro.

Playing a hybrid build means being able to deal both condition and direct damage. This isn’t just a matter of stats because different weapons deal different kind of damage. For example, you would need far more power if you want to do the same amount of direct damage with a scepter as the dagger does without any extra stats.
Therefore choosing weapons comes first, then traits, then balance your stats accordingly.
There is no general stat sweetspot, if that’s what you’re asking…

There actually is, in the case of this specific build. It’s governed by hitting the 50% crit chance while still maximizing cnd dmg AND crit dmg.

The video covers it all very well, the only real variant is using traveler runes instead of celestial, which means slightly tweaking your trinket choices.

That’s what I said… different weapons = different build = different stats.
Not all hybrids are the same.

There is much more variance to a hybrid build than what is in the video. For instance, his trait selection is terrible.

Additionally, getting 50% crit (while it might be solid and work for some/many people), makes the build very squishy for others preference.

Have you watched the whole video? because it doesn’t seem like you understand what this build is trying to do or how finely it’s been tuned.

50%+ crit is essential to this build, it’s what drives the synergy between the power ‘half’ and the condi ‘half’.

I tried a build like this once….all rampager’s armor, the whole works. But it never worked for me, because with mostly power, precision, condition damage, there wasn’t much room for defense. For that reason, I would recommend this particular build only for those who are either skilled and know how to avoid taking damage effectively, or if you balance it out with plenty of toughness. The guy in the vid had a fair amount of toughness, (2200ish with celestial/soldiers added) but imo that’s not enough. But hey, that’s just me.
