Watching allies go ham on an enemy condition necromancer who activates spectral armor who then proceeds to kill them, is very annoying to see, yes.
Perhaps you should’ve told your team mates then instead of making a captain obvious post on the necro forum.

It’s supposed to stay a secret I guess, otherwise it might be revealed that the Spec Armor cd reduction in september wasn’t that big of a deal after all and Anet would have to give our sustain a real buff instead.

Spectral Armor is, yes, effectively invulnerability to direct damage while active. Spectral Walk is far, far less so, and I’d argue its pretty easy to burn through it.
Let’s look at armor though. While in DS you already take half-damage from direct damage. This is compounded by 33% reduced damage from protection (stacks multiplicatively), and the fact that SA provides 8% LF per second. So if you get hit just once each second by, say, a 5000 damage hit, you actually take:
Half damage while in DS – 2500
Protection 33% reduction – 1675
8% LF w/ base 18k HP (864 ish damage reduced) – 811
As you can see, you take a lot of reduced damage. Specifically the damage you take is 33.5% of the original damage you would have taken – (Total LF*LF generated) per second. It is a really significant reduction, and it will scale even better with other LF generation effects. It isn’t quite a full invulnerability, but it is very strong.
Lolol, well it’s good to know some people are smart enough to realize this anyway. I dislike blowing stunbreakers but there are still lots of times I will use Spectral Armor just to gain additional life-force and take reduced damage. When I pop it all I’m thinking is “yes! Hit me more, it feels good!” same story when I’m using Plague Signet and people are stacking a ton of conditions on me :P. This is why I love Necromancer, we like to be hit <3.

To be honest, SA may save you from one. Hardly extend your existance against two.
Will not really matter when attacked by three or more. That’s why people like to focus Necro anyway.

Taking 67% reduced damage always matters. It might not save you on its own but it makes a big difference.
yah but 67% reduction on 500k damage in 5 seconds? yah bro that necro is still dead dont stress about it too much just laugh as he attempts to enter death shroud and it gets shredded before the immob ends
It’s not realy 67% reduction, that’s just sugaring things up.
You’re assuming several things:
1) DS is ready, off cd.
2) Being hit by multi-hit attacks, like RF (and unlike Backstab or Evis).
3) Protection has not been removed – necros don’t stack a lot of boons, mesmers, thieves, and other necros will easily remove the protection.
4) LF is not full/close to be – mist builds get SA on 50% hp, so they’re not always using it when they need to.
It’s not like endure pain or flesh skin, there no reason to take pressure off, 9/10 it’s more benefical to keep bursting after removing protection, if you can’t remove it you can focus on your CC skills.
