Instead of the corruption skills applying a condition to yourself, they should instead sacrifice a percentage of your life-force to use it rather than applying a condition to yourself.
In my opinion, I think that when the necro skills were being designed, the sacrifice function idea in gw1 was interesting and unique. And it was, but obviously everyone knows (should know) that gw2 has a completely different and new more interactive combat system compared to gw1. The sacrifice thing I think wanted to transfer over, but again, IMO, having the conditions apply to yourself doesn’t do much, especially if you’re facing a heavy condition class. That only makes it easier for your enemy if you’re bleeding, poisoned, or have vulnerability already applied to yourself.

If corruptions were to use life-force in place of having conditions applied to you when you cast them, they might have to be reworked a little bit to make them more use-able…

Use Corruption abilities like Corrupt Boon, Corrosive Poison Cloud, Blood Is Power, then use Consume Conditions. CC heals you for a greater amount the more conditions you have on you, if you’re somewhat low on health, and your heal isn’t on cooldown, using Corruption skills is a good way to make CC give better return. I believe that was the intention when designing Corruption skills.

It wasn’t, if you look at old traits that never made it into the game, it just happened to have that synergy later on. They used to toy with skills having actual health costs associated with them, and there were traits to alleviate that, but it was canned ages ago.
