Dunno what kinda stuff Robert Gee has planned, but I want to make some suggestions. I think the best niche to push for necro axe would be punishing enemies for using boons. Also, more synergies with vulnerability. So with that in mind here are the ideas.

Rending Claws (1): Generate 1% LF per stack of vulnerability on the target.
Unholy Feast (3): Corrupt an additional boon for each stack of vulnerability on each enemy. Gain might and heal yourself for each boon corrupted.

Traits:
Spiteful Spirit: No more ICD.

The idea is not only do you corrupt boons more effectively, given enough time to stack vuln on a target, but you actually get stronger after corrupting their boons. You also get more incentive to use vulnerability from other sources to improve the strengths of the weapon.

Anyways, although axe rips a boon on 3, the dedicated boon hate skill should be focus. Hopefully anet will someday tweak focus 5 in such a way that it can rip boons on a fairly quick cast and cooldown,

Boon spam by every class has exponentially expanded and anet needs to tweak focus to catch up.

I know just the way to do that. Let’s give it 1500 range.

Mainhand and offhand weapons don’t really compete. You can always use both weapons.

Anyway what would be a better niche for Axe to fill? Please don’t say “ranged power” because that is a bad idea for a lot of reasons.

Well, it kinda ought to be ranged power weapon regardless. We pretty well have melee covered with dagger(soon adding GS into the mix), ranged condi with scepter, and ranged support with staff.

I suppose you could tweak some stuff, and make dagger condi melee and axe power melee. Though to do this you would need to make staff the ranged power option with associated buffs to actually make it a ranged power weapon.

2/3 classes that can use axe in game (ranger and necro) leave a lot to be desired. ranger’s axe (mainhand) is quite terrible for what it does, and necro’s is equally bad for what it does. it needs an attack chain.

Axe would overshadow melee options outside of melee stacking in PvE. It’s the same reason why warrior ranged weapons deal poor damage compared to the melee options. Necro is really similar to warrior in how its internal balance functions.

What works a lot better for necro is to limit ranged power damage to death shroud, let it deal ranged condi damage with scepter, and make the axe and staff utility/support weapons.
