Teq will be patched, soon, to make it more challenging. Really, you do not need a specific build to get event participation.
With that said, power does more damage using a staff at range so gear for that if you like. Run the lich for your elite and pop it just before getting feared. If you use it early, ir may come off CD for a second use before the end.
Consume Conditions, WoB, WoP, Bone Fiend, Flesh Wurm, Signet of Spite, and BiP are all good choices for the ranged combat. If you are traited for corruption and have might duration gear, Blood is Power can keep Might up a lot; even into lich form. The minions are both ranged so they will not die as quickly in the chaos. Well of blood is a nice, neighborly heal and well of power will take care of the poison Teq likes so much. If you are not feeling so friendly, CC is fine, too.
Honestly I’m going to go for turret defense. If you watched the video they released back at the convention the turrets are crucial to winning, you can’t just melee him to death anymore. Since I doubt many people will bother trying to defend the turrets I think it would be a prime job for necro with our good cc, condition manipulations, and of course well of blood.

Well of Power and Signet of Undeath are must haves as far as I’m concerned.
So far it seems that you need way more players attacking him opposed to turret defense, so I would say build 30 spite for power, and the rest in blood/Soul reaping for defensive traits and more HP. P/V/T gear since he cannot be crit(he can be crit for like 5 seconds after he gets hit with the laser, but 5 seconds to me isnt worth sacrificing such huge survival the rest of the fight).
Wells are great for this fight, well of suffering/corruption for damage, well of power for his fears, well of blood to heal players(you should be stacked with a range group).
If you place your wells right, you can do double or even triple damage to him, because he has 3 parts. Hands and Head.
If you’re planning on hurting Tequatl you should go Powermancer, and maybe overall also. Condinecros have a 25 max stack on Tequatl, and the fingers are immune to conditions. So you can basically only kill Risen.
A year in to the game and still 25 max stack on a 80+ people boss. Silly.
The best weapon might be staff……on a powermancer…..
I haven’t tried meleeing Tequatl, someone pls tell me if it’s safe. I see poison aoe, wave, but I don’t know if the claw actually hurt.
Utilities, bring wells. WoC, WoS, WoB + WoP or Swalk for stunbreak.
Trait well ground targetting & reduce CD.
Golem for elite. Maybe lich?
The best attack is probably fast pulsing small aoe that has individual hit like guardian’s scepter#2, since Tequatl’s huge hit box, all of the aoe can hit unlike used against usual small mobs. It also coupled with very low CD.

Oh my, really, a TEQ necro build? Wow. lol
Use force and undead sigils. And undead potions.

But the main dps people need to do to get Teq down is using ele conjures.
Played a bit last night. There were, perhaps, too many working turret defense as opposed to attacking Teq. Definitely need a power build and plenty of group heal, condi-cleanse, and teamwork. Players should group up and keep each other alive and fighting. Dps on Teq cannot be allowed to slack off.
For Necromancer, I am uncertain if the best use is in (a) wiping out adds, (b) ranged damage to Teq, or © condi-cleanse and heals for high-dps professions gnawing at Teq’s legs.

Thankfully, you don’t really have to choose. Well of Power+Well of Blood cover condi cleanse and heals, staff and death shroud works for pretty much everything else (might as well run Well of Suffering and Signet of Undeath for additional AoE DPS and more support). Lich form for right after Mega-Laser shot.
From today i can say rezz signet is a lot more useful as 3rd utility instead of curruption well. Revive 3 ppl from range vs. deal small dmg/ 0 boons/ condis arealy perma spammed
@ bar tonight but have been running 30/10/0/30/0 WoB, WoP, WoS, Undeath, Litch. Traited for max wells and heals using staff. Wish everyone else ran full power/heal/condi cleanse spec on my server but know some do not. Some try to skate by with their favorite builds.
I also use 30/10/0/30/0 with PVT gear, undead slaying sigil, Well of Blood, Well of Suffering, Well of Power, Undeath Signet.
I will not bring signet of undead. It’s been nerfed to ground. Not only it has kitten radius compare to battle standard, the 3s cast really make it next to unusable when Teq cast waves. I’ll say leave it to warriors and we just dps.

Comment if you like. Signets need help, still. The cool-down in PvE discourages their activation in major events. Signet of Spite is a nice passive but, again, activating it and other signets on boss fights is nearly useless. Let’s take Spite, for example. Now, imagine what activating Signet of Spite does for a huge group on Tequatl. Signet of Undeath takes up a utility slot until I use it, then goes on CD for over 2 minutes even when traited. Necromancer skill set is pretty thin for fights like Teq where large groups need damage avoidance from mobs that ignore conditions like Blind, Chill, Cripple, Weakness. For those kinds of events, I think a trait that reduces CD on signets more than Signet Mastery is needed.
I just dropped Signet of Undeath for the Tequatl fight. Three seconds, three people, and three minutes make the signet frustratingly useless in that fight. It should be 1 second, 5 people, 1.5 minutes, traited in PvE.

When the ones downed are spread out too far to hit them all at once and by the time you cast it they’re already dead, yeah I agree. I tried bringing this once and only once and saw how utterly useless this is in pve, even moreso in large scale battles like this (which is honestly and ironically where it should be the most useful).
