Terror+Spec.wall will be best combo
As i would love for spectral wall to apply a fear, this was still not confirmed, it may still be a rumor, so i wouldn’t start formulating builds just yet on skill changes that may be non-existent. But indeed that is a very deadly combo, sadly im sure that will be a rare circumstance to fear lock them back and forth.
Best condition burst, but not burst in general. Terror still only ticks once per second, and at best in WvW you are talking about maybe 1600-1650 damage with Might stacks up. Thats like 11-12 bleeds…. hardly the BEST burst combo.
In conjunction with our new burning, torment, those 11 bleeds, and poison…. well now….. that is a different story all together.

what with wells having reduced cast, I have the feeling that necros just got a lot scarier at area denial.
Lots of variety in build choices will become available, but not sure the wall could dump my spectral walk off, especially as it will now continue functioning in DS.
Smart enemies will begin to learn to fear the wall (small pun) after a few bad encounters, and many may be able to avoid it.

go into death shroud: doom
spectral wall fear 1
reapers mark

at 1400 dmg/fear tick that’s 9800 dmg :p
It would actually be 19600 damage with 100% fear duration.
Althought he would be pretty silly to wait for 5 fears to go by before popping stability.

you can always interchange your active fears.

It’s good theory, but just not sure how easy this will be able to pull off, if CCing enemies into the wall becomes a known combo.
Poor players might get wrecked sure, but one dodge roll sideways when someone see a wall down in front or behind them, its all messed up.
I don’t think the combo will be as good as people think it is since fear counts as both a stun and condition allowing people to reduce its duration to almost nothing through melandru runes and food buffs. Not to mention stun breakers are getting added to several more skills allowing almost every single smart build to have at least one. However, as I like to do a lot of solo roaming in WvW I can’t wait for the typical d/d or d/p thief to try to spam 2 on me while I just keep strafing through the spectral wall. The trolling will be more epic than a guardian with wall of reflection fighting a short bow ranger.
If the patch notes are true, this is going to be epic in WvWvW. Find a zerg near a bottleneck, place Spectral Wall, profit. Well-coordinated groups are going to make good use of this.

Nice idea, but… fear makes them run away from you, not from the source of the fear. So you’d get two ticks.

What you really want is a player in the middle of two necros who cast wall… then fear once.
Spectral Grasp is looking more appealing, that’s for sure. Wall, pull, fear, back over wall, anotehr fear, DS fear and then staff fear.

I liked the instant 10 stacks of vuln, it was good for pve and every class has some skills which arent that suited for pvp. People are still just gonna avoid the wall so its not going to get much better in pvp, but now its completely useless in pve.
Spoj, this fear will enable extreme damage though, especially with the torment condition. just use focus 4, that is some great vuln stacking there, and if you are using vuln then you are probably power so you either have warhorn or focus.
If you’re a PVE powermancer than this is probably not the most welcome change.
As a PvP hybrid and condition user, I find it most welcome. I am really hoping that this change goes live.

I’m kind of surprised to see people discussing this since if the wall and spectral traits remain the same as they are now and then we get this fear condition added to the wall, it would make become an incredibly OP utility. It’s a good team utility already, but the bad thing is that it’s combo field is bugged…. If the combo field bug gets fixed, then spectral wall is going to be a very good source of protection for you and your team as well as nearly the best ethereal field in the game to get aoe chaos armor from.
Those leaked notes seem to be very random and I think and hope that they are fake.

I like the change, because I never found much use for it as it is now. But I personally would have wanted to see the wall actually deflect stuff, like the guardian does. The deflection nonsense is really the reason why so many people want guardians on their team (+ the high DPS of course and tanking power).
Still, even though I’m disappointed that we’re not getting deflects, I’m glad that someone finally noticed that our current Spectral Wall is rubbish. This will be a big improvement. Necros could also really use more fear skills.

If this change is true, I wanna see a video of two necros on either side of an enemy cast spectral wall at the same time and bounce them between the walls for 9 seconds of terror damage.

That kinda disappoints me if true, but of course some of the things in the maybe fake patch notes disappoints me also so I guess it doesn’t matter.
Either way, Spectral Wall has earned a permanent place on my bar as a Chill/Terrormancer and I love it as it is. The 1s fear was just an awesome buff.

I stand by my original statement though, spectral wall is amazing as is.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t get fear instead of vulnerability. As is, SW is really good for both power and condi builds. Imo it’s one of our better utilities, especially when you take in the drawbacks of CB, Epi, and Plague Signet.
Do appreciate the heads up though. I’m a little excited to see what changes are actually made. Trying not to get my hopes too high though.

Why would you want them to not get it if you wouldn’t think that it would make them too powerful (aka OP)? And you said it in such a way that made it look like everyone agrees with you on that, and that it actually would be really bad if they get it. So I took the freedom to tell you to get your facts straight, and that the way it would apparently be implemented for Thieves and Mesmers won’t make much of a difference. Some even say no Thief with half a brain would want to use it, aside from PvE maybe. But yeah… according to you we should all hope they won’t get it, because it would totally break the game and they would become too powerful…

1. There’s no such thing as a “strongest profession”.
2. That toy wouldn’t be nearly as shiny as you think. For Mesmers it might have an average color, and for Thieves it would probably be quite rusty and unappealing. If it gets added like described in those leaked notes, that is.

I’m sure we can all live with the lack of vulnerability on one ability and finish the dungeon 1 minute later than usual. Even brain dead people can PVE this game with ease.
