I’ve promised for quite a while now that i will make this video. I want to thank you guys for your continuous support and appreciation. Without further ado…. here it is
Guild Wars 2 – the ultimate necromancer damage hybrid (tutorial)
This video includes “what does a hybrid mean”, building up the hybrid – weapons, stats, items, skills, utilities, traits and last but not least… how do you use the hybrid after all is well and done. All of these explained in detail with the reasoning behind each decision.
FINAL STATS:
2831 Attack
1146 Condition damage
123% Bleeding duration
52% Critical strike chance
49% Critical strike damage
1979 Armor
~ 20,992 Health
235 Healing Power
If i missed anything or if you have any questions feel free to comment here, on in the comment section on youtube.
Enjoy

As always great work Nemesis. I have followed your videos since I was a tiny little necro
Fantastic work Nemesis. I love the new audio quality.
Please can you redo some of the older videos that had poor balance between in game volume and your voice audio?
I want to like it, but for me it has next to no defense other than smart play, and while it’s true that only that is all you need, if you get focus fired it might be a lethal issue which this build doesn’t really accommodate for.
Really nice damage though.
One issue, it’s my understanding sigils share a cooldown, so using the sigil of battle will place the sigil of earth on cooldown. So the question would be, for hybrid, which one is more important, the power / cond dmg from battle or bleed stacking with earth? I also am testing using Unyielding blast so as to have the pierce + vulnerability.
I only PVE though, very rare pvp.

I will more or less include the information in my older videos in the new upcoming ones. So yes… i want to do this, to constantly improve… new cpu, new microphone… but not to repeat myself.

I chose the name of my build carefully… it is “ultimate” as in best you can get with these current items in game, damage-hybrid as in damage oriented hybrid as in both burst and conditions.
It lacks support or tanking because the priority is damage. I will make other builds that have more of the tanking/support stuff in the future.

You can opt for sigil of force instead of battle, i was aiming for the fact that you still get the benefit from the superior sigil of earth in the axe when you come out of death shroud and to the final ghostly claws attack before switching into bleed mode.
Actually i should have use superior sigil of force in the first place… i was just focusing on so many things in the video, i missed that one.

True, and I have no doubt it will indeed do just that, I’m considering giving this build a good try once my little neccy gets moderately geared and 80 (providing my computer can keep up with everything) and somewhat hoping I can cast aside my apprehensions with it. I must ask though, how do you think (or have you tested how) this build fares in WvW?

In my opinion, for a necromancer things related to power don’t bring “victory” in WvW. I don’t mean you can’t own in WvW, i’m saying you don’t achieve victory. I’ve made some WvW tutorials in which i explain everything.
Any build can own anything in 1v1 if you outskill the person by a lot, but in WvW that gets negated by zerg-ing, which gets negated by tactics + zerging… so… what brings victory ? How do you own… by making a difference… how can you do that ?
Not by having power builds with max 600 range, and well with 45 sec CDs vs people that have a wall + a door in front of you.
Conditions… that is what will make you… make a difference…
I made a long tutorial on this, then i backed up my theory-crafting by holding some guard towers vs 5-10 times the numbers. Once was 3 vs 10-15, other time was 5-10 vs 40-60.
These videos are in the sticky here on the forums
I am really interested in trying a form of this build in wvw.
The type of build you choose I would imagine you would utilize its form differentely in wvw . For instance, there are several ways of helping your server achieve victory as a necro. A power build with max 600 range can be used as a dolyak escort, killing dolyaks to starve castles, and soloing camps. The condition build can be used more towards walls, doors and separating crowds.

Been running both of Sheobix’s builds, might have to grind gear for a third!
This is nearly a copy of Tokyomurai build!
This should really be called, “Why the Necromancer’s Axe is not nearly so bad as you thought it was.” Axe+Focus is a really clever deal. In group fights Reaper’s focus gives a lot of healing out. In solo fights it stacks like >15 vulnerability, making your burst hit like crazy hard.
My eyes are totally opened to the proper use of the axe.
a thief still destroys you in a few seconds and so does a Warrior or dagger elemenentalist…… usually before you even got off any skills…
zipp zipp zipp zapp zipp = dead necro 30k HP + DS gone

How on earth does a necro ever, ever, EVER lose to a GC d/d elementalist? You must be insanely outgeared and/or upleveled in WvW for that to happen. I can understand how you lose to thieves because necros tend to rock high vit, low healing and low toughness making heartseeker “super effective!”… but most d/d elementalists can’t put a single hit above 4k, let alone put together 30k of burst without using an insane combination of maneuvers that requires a lightning flash and/or is spoiled by a stunbreaker.
If they’re GC, they should just melt away in the bleeding. Break stun, apply bleeds, reapply whenever you see the sploosh. If they run, you win.
Seriously man, d/d elementalist roamers are so much bigger in everyone’s heads than they are in the game, and with the EA nerf they’re not even that scary anymore. They’re just the best build at running away.
This is a fantastic example of a good DPS hybrid. Of course you should already know im a toughness based freak so the first thing i look at is survivability, but this is a fine example of squeezing every last drop of power and condition damage out of the necromancer. good post +1
Great video as normal Nemesis. I loved the break down of the gear and best way to get the most out of you power and condition damage. Wonder if you could put it in the tutorial section so it doesnt get lost in the treads overtime. Well i guess ill bookmark it for later so when i get the cash to build my gaming PC back up and can play the game again.
I want to try it, but it seems like a lot of work to get those rings/back/earring/pendant
I dont have that much gold to spare, nor the time to grind so many fractals lol.
Great build, I really like to try this build. It looks like soo much fun to play. I have a couple of questions tough.
Maybe you could add which gear you use in the build in the description of the video or the startpost. I can’t find in the video what kind of axe you use. Is it zerker or rampager?
In your final build you still have 2% more crit chance then needed. So you could swap out the 2 coral orbs for Rune of the Undead or Centaur.
he’s using a 30/30/x/x/x tourny build with just the right amount of power/prec/crit/cond-dmg. I really prefer this to tPvP
Just bought the Emberglow on my norn, but I’m dissapointed. It clips horriy with the ground. On your sylvari you didn’t have so much clipping issues.
Would it help if I make my norn larger? Or will the scepter scale with the length?
meh..Good build.
but everytime i see one of these threads it always ends the same…i go into it think oh wow this might be something, then its the same everytime…using some unique, no longer obtainable or end end end game gear…i play WvWvW 95% of my play time, there is not a chance of me obtaining some of the items such as karkas, frac rings and such, so id be really glad if somebody made a build once a while that doesnt involve pointless PvE grind, but that fail from anet for the most part-yes i get WvWvW is suppose to be a gold sink, but when PvE/PvP rewards are so far off….im sorry something is F’d up.
meh..Good build.

I don’t know what you expect, if you want to be good, you have to put work into it. This isn’t World of Gimmecraft. This build is actually really nice. I made full Rampager’s gear and Chrysocola jewels, only invested about 3g for stuff I didn’t already have. For a full set of each, that’s cheap. Had weapons already from tokens. They aren’t ideal for this build, but they work until I get the ones I want. Even without having all this “end game” he has, I am still doing a ton better then I was. I am destroying stuff in PvE. Have yet to try it in WvW.
Also, thank you for the build, Nemesis! I look forward to getting better gear and trying this in fractals!
This build is great in PVE. In PVP, its extremely squishy. There would need to be some modifications, namely adding toughness, in order to use this build in PVP.

another thing, most of the builds that include ascended items do just as well with the standard rampager/etc trinkets used until you can or if you obtain the ascended pieces.
We list them in our builds for those who already have them because once you got them, might as well use them for your builds.
Some others like incentive for an end goal, so its provided as one.
This build works well with its berserker/ramp standard exotics, just like my jugg does just fine with emerald trinkets until you find time to get PTV or ascended stuff.
the overall gain from a full rig of ascended stuff is about eh, maybe +130 max to your desired combination of stats. That’s only going to be about 15% of the total potential effectivity of a real “end gear” build that is finished versus settling for the norm exotics.
meh..Good build.

PvE…Running around naked works there for the most part.
Only high end fracs and some dungeons offer any challange really…I mean take CoF, you could really go naked in there and still not die.
Also gold isnt a problem in this game, the problem is PvE/PvP reward ratio and time invested. With 3 chars on 80 I can farm a dungeon armor inside 3-4 days (exception being Arah), while in WvWvW farming full invaders is proly gonna take 2ish weeks if i can average 100-150 badges per day. See the difference? That is not even metioning Invaders only comes in 1 variant.
@ Sheo
Im sorry but how do you call 15% only? While rubbing random upscaled and non geard players faces in the mud running around WvWvW isnt going to make a difference, the minute you come accros somebody that actually knows how to play those 15% are a huge factor.
On an unrelated note: please take a glance at jugg build thread ill post a Q there and would like some info
15% is sort of in that marginal area between being too much of a bonus and too little for the investment of time given.
tbh, even a good player is bound to get lazy sometimes and slip with their skill, and not just occasionally.
for what its worth, I haven’t bothered getting all the ascended junk yet. just a few.
I found that skilled play makes up for that 15% possible optimal setup.
this build probably won’t work for leveling purposes but I’ll give axe another try. though I don’t really see much aoe dmg out of the build except scepter 2, DS 4 and dagger 5. without multiple wells (and them traited for shorter CD) I really miss damage against multiple foes (and please don’t say staff – I tried it with every trait I could get with lvl 55: 20% cd reduction, 10% dmg, bigger marks and it’s still subpar against enemy groups compared to staff ele or even a warriors auto attack with an axe or gs)
PvE…Running around naked works there for the most part.

wow, I’m so totally impressed by your godlike skills right now. While I’d also rate CoF second easiest dungeon (right after AC ofc), I’d never go so far as to say I could do it (even with dying) naked.
A video showing your immense talent would be greatly appreciated.
I use a didn’t variation of the build so that I can utilize a staff instead of an axe for more AoE damage and to be more effective in WvW. I truly believe that hybrid builds are where necros shine. All of our traits lend themselves to a hybrid build. This is what I’m currently using:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fQAQNAW7YjMaV6Zaqb87JApCPD94WddO6BxDnMA;TsAg1CuoqyUloKLPuqkVtWYswuCA
Hybrid sustained damage is pretty awesome as you’re getting good damage from direct damage and good bleed damage on the backend from your attacks.

zipp zipp zipp… and what does the necromancer do while that zipp zipp zipp occurs ?
This is also not a PvP build, it was designed for PvE. PvP and PvE builds are totally difference since monsters and players are totally different.

I’ve seen some well appreciated posts that you’ve made on these forums, i didn’t have the time and patience to read all of it (i hate reading), but still… you know your craft, so thank you for the vote of confidence.

New builds coming soon… maybe you can make some of those…

The gear has been added to the video’s description.
Also the last 2 orbs if swapped for more bleeding duration runes you will make an overkill on the bleeding duration, you will end up at 105% before Lingering Curse’s extra 33% which goes over the 100% cap.
In conclusion you will lose 5% which goes into nothing, cause it’s over the cap… but you don’t lose the 2% more crit chance, even though it’s not needed, you still benefit from it at least a little bit.
Just bought the Emberglow on my norn, but I’m dissapointed. It clips horriy with the ground. On your sylvari you didn’t have so much clipping issues.

Weapons scale with character size yes… You’ll just have to report the issue and hope for a fix in future patches.
meh..Good build.

Just because you prefer WvW most of the time doesn’t mean that everyone does. For people that prefer PvE, what would you like to offer them ? If it’s not “pointless farm for item progression” what else is there in PvE ?
I will make an improved WvW build in the coming days don’t worry. I already made a WvW dedicated video but since then some traits got fixed and some other traits got changed… an updated is needed on the build and i will make that happen.
meh..Good build.

This build was designed for PvE since in PvE your opponents are AI based monsters which don’t compare most of the time with intuitive human players you can find in PvP. Different builds/weapons for different opponents…
It’s like when going fishing you bring a fishing rod, but when going hunting you bring a riffle.

Necromancer’s AoE capabilities come from condition builds, and to be more accurate comes from “Epidemic”. Let’s say you do 3.5k DPS on a single target with bleeds + Epidemic you do 3.5k DPS x 5 targets – epidemic traited has a 12 second CD. Top that with wells…
Apparently superior rune of nightmare gives 20% condition duration rather then the 10% listed in tool tip. Would switching to nightmare be a benefit, for the 20%, and getting 2 other runes/orbs? And I would like to know what stats are you using for underwater combat weapons? givers trident and spear?
123% longer bleed duration… I think it is capped at 100%. Either your scepter or lingering curse is a overkill.

I am going to test what you said and come back with some feedback.

Normal bleeding duration is indeed capped at 100%, Lingering Curse major trait overwrites that cap. I have, 5 minutes ago, recorded a test for it which i will post tomorrow on youtube. Should settle this bleeding duration issue once and for all.
Thank you for your input.
Hey Nemesis.
Just wanted to say I’ve switched to your build back when you first posted this, and I love it.
I also added some sigils of the centaur so that I get an additional 15% bleed duration to your already impressive 30% extra. So getting even more stacks.
Made a video of possibly our worst ever run on CoF path 1, but I think it shows how great this build can be for the dungeon runs:
Shows all the gear I’ve got. Not managed to earn any ascended gear or triforge pendants yet.
Watch for the comedy running off the bridge moment ;(
