Tips on combating rangers?
Spectral, MM and Condi all work, Spectral is pretty much how skilled vs how stupid the enemy is/if he doesnt know the animation of grasp, MM is who gets to who faster, Condi (well terror) is about timing fear and putrid mark to stop the rangers combos.
Los the ranger while you send in the hounds, to bait them to get close if they want to kill you. You may have to do a few circles just to keep cover between you and the ranger. If you get caught in an open field fight, your dead.

Charge him with plague, use a minion as a body block, if he has GS wait for the block to dark path, if he doesn’t use it on rapid fire or barrage animation. Dodge the pet CC, dodge the knockback.
Am I good?… I’m good.
It’s really tough if he catches you out in the open, but in general as a power necro, I’m trying to DS #2 to his kitten asap. From there- as long as I dodge Maul (I swear every ranger is LB/GS) I can usually wreck them in melee. The hard part is having over half your hp by the time you reach him with dark path. If he blocks or dodges dark path, run and reset until its back up, its literally your only chance to get near him. alternatively you can try kiting the into a flesh golem.

Might be worth running Spectral Grasp. It’s rarely run, but that means people are less familiar with it. As a plus, it lets you ignore any traps they may have set if it connects.
I have been practicing a spectral DS build for the two gap-closers – Spectral Grasp and Dark Path. Traiting Curses and Soul Reaping to at least 4 each for the two skill types. War horn is something else to consider as another interrupt besides Fear but LB#2 has too short a CD for its power and range so I am considering dagger/focus, too, putting remaining points into Spite.
I remember playing longbow ranger (60260 SotF) before the patch, most matchups were against me, but necromancers were the notable exception. I’ve run into much fewer sPvP necros after the balance patch. Getting charged by an axe-wielding necro is the only really threatening aspect of necros my ranger has encountered.
The best tip I can give any Necro to close the “1500-Gap” to a LB ranger si useing Spectral Walk in reverse. By that ofc meen when he attacks use Sp.Walk and make him folllow you then port back, then close the gap with Dark Path and he panics cause no LB Ranger is built to stay close on target.
Even with new boost to LB dmg up close, being on him is the key and “reverse Sp.Walk” is what usually works best.

That is a great tip
I have found simply using Spectral Armor and going into a Full bar of deathshroud to be enough to close the gap and mitigate the damage
If you are condi it is not that hard since you should have 9-1200 range
The new LB/GS Power Rangers can not hold up once you get them in a fear chain… very few condi cleanses
You can also spawn Flesh Wurm, taunt him to follow you and once he gets near wurm, port back.
At this point Ranger is in trouble (unless your plan isn’t to place wells on him – Lreflex will get him out). Make sure to “walk” into him, it totally breaks all LB skills and can save you from Maul.
Most won’t escape. SotF Rangers can, but mostly thanks to wise usage of Sword.
