Toughest three opponents in 1v1 pvp
Mesmer
Thief
Warrior
Considering equally skilled opponents?
Engineer / Mesmer / Ranger maybe
“They say you are what you eat.
Which is funny ‘cause I don’t remember eating a f.ing legend”
Engi definitely.
Mesmer comes in second.
And yes.. I will say elementalist. They have very good CC and can easily avoid all of your important skills and utilities thrown at them. They have amazing burst which means your chance for DS helping is very small.
Warrior, because it’s just OP in many ways.
Mesmer, because endless clones are very confusing
engi/thief/ranger +- same danger
1. Warriors are a hard counter to us right now
2. Endless clone mesmers can engage and disengage at will
3. As a power necro, the fact that a full dire condi necro with dhuumfire can burst me more quickly than a gc necro is over the top

Mesmer
Ranger ((Spirit shortbow build))
possibly thief?
I run a D/F minion master in world vs world. I rarely have issues with alot of classes. Focus 5 melts anything that decides they what to boon up and I can USUALLY down most people in a charge, root bone minion bomb. Anyone who survives after that is on their last leg so a deathshroud fear+darkpath, followed by staff fear usually puts them down.
90% of warriors I fight run in and try 100b’ding down my minions or attempt hammer rushes. Being PVT the only thing that takes damage is the minions and if they die putrid explosion causes around 2 to 3k damage for each minion killed + poison.
Mesmers mess around with my minion’s AI with the constant stealth and warps but their burst spikes usually scuff off like 1 maybe 2k on my 29k HP One mess up and ill usually have a charge. ((They’ll break it with their stun-break)) Then fear root and bone minion explosion. Then I hop shroud, tainted+Life transfer so even if they poof away in stealth they come out biting dirt.
Thieves are entirely wildcards. They’re almost all running zerker builds and melt like paper under me. I have issues when they play extremely defensive and hop in and out of stealth alot, this fiddles with the minion AI alot. BUT same as mesmer, if they make a mistake I can usually zerk them down in around 2 to 3 seconds. Lock them up with golems charge, bone-fiends root a couple of chain-fears and of course the wonderful bone minion pop for 3 to 4k and poison.
Ranger’s drive me up the wall believe it or not a good spirit build can put me on the ropes incredibly fast and i’m still researching how to deal with them, since you don’t see them in PVP all that often the ones you do know what their doing and i’ve yet to have enough practice against them to get them down.
Eleshod|80 Thief|Tarnished Coast
Malsavias|80 Necromancer| Tarnished Coast
1) The new Warrior CC builds
2) Shatter and/or Phantasm mesmers
3) Bunker Engis w/ bombs
That’s pretty much the only thing that routinely bothers me on my MM builds, besides being out-skilled.
Hold on… since everyone here listed Mesmer, I take it that nobody of you plays a condition necro… right?
Because well-played (or at least decently played) condition-necros are like… the ultimate nightmare to me when I’m playing Mesmer. Luckily, I don’t run into them very often… then again; that may be one of the reasons for why I still lack practice against them, haha. Though… with so many conditions constantly being reapplied, there’s not much I can do. I can only cleanse so much and then it’s over (unless I manage to run away).

Power necro here
power necro:
1) warrior → no tools against them really you just die horribly
2) mesmer → clones/shatter will own you unless you get really lucky
3) condi necro → lawd staff and terror is so op
4) AI spammers, power weapons no cleave whatever even with wells you’re gonna struggle.
5) anything with burning, it will own you..
@Saturn
Id dare to say more necros play power, since we got bored of condi and it is less hard countered by wariors (40% of pvp atm -.- ) And mesmer CC+vigor have always been the counter to any power necro spec.
Though i think the results are mostly soloQ, tryhard team would still take condi since they can keep him alive.
My power necro hate list:
1) warior
2) mesmer
3) engie
Basicaly anything with CC , evades also kill our long cast times.
Lockdown mesmer
I can generally put up a fight against most other classes but lockdown mesmers are a nightmare for me.
As a decent Minionmancer, my toughest fights are usually:
Countless’ clone spam mesmer build – every time my minions kill a clone, it puts conditions on me and my minions.
Good bomb/grenade bunker engis – I say good as in ‘focus your minions before you’. Once minions are dead, it’s pretty much fair game for anyone.
Power rangers – This is hit and miss, because very few good rangers run power specs outside of spirit builds. Kiting with longbow and great sword for defense/utility can easily wither down my health. Of course, this is assuming they use terrain to their advantage (using cliffs and edges to kite minions).
I don’t include warrior on my list because death nova hard counters them like no other. Even if they stun lock me with a full hammer chain, I’d only be down about 10k health with a soldiers amulet on. Oh, and hydromancy sigils are your friend ^^.
Minionmancers are extremely strong in a 1v1 situation, so I simply put the classes which have the best ability to take me down.
Guardian
Warrior
Mesmer
I may try a MM build for this event. Has the current “standard MM build” changed much from the video posted by Nemesis in the sticky?
How does a MM build stack up against Necro Power builds?

Nothing against Nemesis, but I really never would have followed his MM build too closely, although I didn’t watch the entire 20 minute video to see everything he uses.
In general, Blood Fiend and not using Bone Minions is not good for an MM build, unless you specifically know what you are doing and your build is structure to make it work.
As for how it pairs against a power build, you really should never lose to a power Necro as an MM. You shouldn’t really ever lose to a condi MM either, unless you allow them to Epidemic your minions freely.
Mesmer, Warrior, Guardian.
Those three are easily the toughest for me to 1v1 as a Power Necro. Thief is easy for me because I can soak his damage and burst him back. He can get away whenever he wants, but it is clear that he cannot beat me either.
Mesmer I just cannot stay on between the constant stealth, clones, and teleports. I have studied this class and I just accept that it is a great 1v1 class and that it kind of counters power necro. Warrior is just OP vs anyone right now… Too much damage, passive survival, and constant CC. Guardian just has so much passive healing and the aegis makes rooting/fearing them really hard, plus they can CC you pretty good too and deal some nice damage.
mesmer
engi
necro
then again i play thief, my toughest opponent is current meta
as necro:
warriors
[Teef] guild :>
(edited by Cynz.9437)
Mesmer. (just because of the petting zoo / can’t target it for kitten)
Thief (just because of the combat reset/heal now you see me now you don’t thingy)
After the 10th:
All other classes besides necro..
so many changes going on with other classes adding new passives and op healing
(necro pretty much stays the same, exept maybe we all go bunker)
Warrior isn’t that much of a problem if you use energy sigs and go condition bounce with a power/toughness build.

I main a Mesmer but also love despite them being pretty rubbish Eles and Necro. I have no issue most of the time Vs Condition Necro. I have plenty of Stealth and clone creation that it will make it hard to be spotted, I run Greatsword as well so you can bet that i will be at range ALOT with Sword/Pistol as my secondary ready for the IDuelist and then Magic Bullet + iLeap + BF combo.
My build is a mix of high Phantasm damage but with Solid shattering ability as well Mostly the stun and Confusion ones. Running 3 stun breakers as well (Blink, Decoy and Mirror Images)

My other main is a Mesmer; and I’ll say that any decent condition necro should stomp all over you and your lack of condition removal. Perhaps 12/10 with Menders Purity buff it will help (and should help my Mesmer build a lot), but currently unless you insta-gib the necro, you’ll likely be in a big hurt.

I dont run with any Condition removal lol
I rarely have issues with Condition Necros. I actually find the Power ones to be tougher. The biggest bonus we have are the clones So many times i see big skills being wasted on them
With Stealth, Dodge Clones, Normal clones and range unless i make silly mistakes such as engaging without all cool downs ready or them getting help i dont really have that much problem.
Plus it helps that the Condi Elite (Plague) is SO rubbish Its when they go into Lich (normally Power builds) that i have to be careful.
