Trahearne: Necromancer with a GS
I’ve been hoping for a 2h axe in a future expansion!
Chance to decapitate…
Executioner style
alts: Fangyre (Necro), Hardrawk (Ele);
Jade Quarry
Trahearne is a Guardian, if the skills I’ve seen him use are any indication. The only time he does anything necromantic is when he summons the 6 flesh golems (why can’t we do that?), but that is called a Plot Device skill, so it is not representative of anything else.

According to the wiki, Trahearne is indeed a necromancer:

The fact that Trahearne is a necro is also mentioned quite specifically during the personal story.
So I say, when will we get to equip a GS or other two-handed weapon that caters more to power/crit builds?
I thought it was kind of funny. He started off as a Necromancer, but rerolled as a Guardian to become stronger. It’s like ANet was reading the Necro boards before they went live! XD
Trahearne is definitely a Necro, it’s obvious if you watch him before he receives Caladbolg.
Anyhow, it has nothing to do with his profession, it’s his weapon being special. You can wield Caladbolg no matter what your profession is. As part of the Sylvari storyline you retrieve Caladbolg and in at least one of the paths can wield it, it has it’s own skillset like a summoned weapon.
TLDR: Caladbolg is a racial weapon.

Akin to my engineer picking up an ice bow summoned by an elementalist, even though engis cannot wield the bow as a full-time, equipped weapon.
Good rationale, actually…
Nonetheless, I would like to see necros have at least one other choice in the two-handed weapon department. The staff is virtually all AOE and condition damage, which is fine for condition builds. I am thinking more of a direct damage weapon (like the necro axe). The two handed battle axe was a great suggestion and very necro-like.

Ectoplasm Rifle.
You know you want it.
Necromancer
Anvil’s Last Stand [ALS]
I actually love the idea of a two handed axe for power build necro. Could easily fit the play style and theme of necros while adding in a gap closing leap skill of some sort and finally give us a cleaving attack. Could be a lot of awesome right there.

he uses guardian skills so he is not pure necro
Rytlock also uses pistol.
Guild Wars 2 does lack a good old two-handed battle axe. If they ever decide to add weapons, that would be on my list.

Again, Caladbolg grants new skills that mimic those from several classes. I remember one is like Whirling Wrath and no guarantee they are the same skills for him.
You got it wrong guys.
I am a sylvari thief. in my storyline which leads to order choice , i get to aquire the Might greatsword to kill a lich , my skills are replaced with an exact copy of trahearne’s. Does that change my class , nope.
He is a necro and always remains a necro , however , using Caladbolg gives him the sword’s skills. It’s like using an elementalist weapon.
Cheers
A Sylvari thief.

This is correct. Furthermore, Trahearne is a much stronger Necro than regular PCs if he wants to show off when you consider that he can summon multiple Flesh Golems and other Minions.
Give necros a Scythe or Greataxe… or why not both, and buff normal axe to. There is currently no such thing as a viable direct dmg necro build. At least not comparable to any other class.
And conditions take time to apply, and has a cap in dungeons… And scepter is to shortranged for sieges to… as is axe btw.
I really like the style of the necro, but being outperformed by every other class in almost all areas is kind of a letdown.
Look guys forget it, look at Trahearne, look at the boss at the Cliffside fractal, those are true necromancer, the profession is just it’s pitious parody. PERIOD. Settled..moving on..
Ectoplasm Rifle.

Now all I can think of is a Proton Gun from Ghostbusters.
And yes I want it. It doesn’t make sense, but I want it.
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.
Trahearne is an obnoxious Mary Sue plot hook that is there to show you just how inferior everyone else is to him.
I don’t normally do story arcs in most of these games, but I needed xp at the time and the off chance I could get some gear/cash, so I suffered through the ‘oh we’re incompetent and will reasonably settle for 2nd best, please help us’ sort of mumbling under my breath, ‘just get that rancid kitten Trahearne to do it’.
The zombie mobs in Orr also have some similar spell effects/types of spells to Necros… except they look probably twice as good as an animation-effect and will actually kill you.
KnT Blackgate
Game files/Caladbolg code pretty clearly states he is a Guardian, Mesmer, Warrior, Elementalist upon picking it up, since it are the requirements for it.
Also he isnt a actually stronger necromancer, for him to summon all those golems took as much time as for you to destroy 3 waves of undead krait and thralls, all the PC summons are more of a “in combat” version, since by GW lore, animated flesh tends to decay really fast, so preping a giant army of undead before a fight would mean that they would just fall over dead not even half the way into the battle.
Yeh… NPC necro are generally more of a threat than oneself is… I mean, check out the necro mobs in TA, AC or Orr. Dangerous stuff right there.

No. Any class can use Caladbolg, as seen when players get to use it during the Sylvari story. Just like any class can use an elementalist’s Fiery Greatsword etc.
Can’t believe all these people created all this just to bash on necromancers again ….

2h Hammer necro anyone? :p
River of Tears – S/D glass ele
Solo and small group roamer
Dagger focus greatsword would be bad kitten especially if the great sword had closing moves.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Still wanna know the hell mesmers use a GS instead necros, considering they are kinda fragile than us esthetically. Its like give a Warrior a Staff and a Hammer to an Ele, lol.

/agree.
If you look at Caladbolg’s skills, it’s not just guardian. It has ONE guardian skill (the auto doesn’t really count as anything in my opinion): Maelstrom strike. Electrolyze is elementalist, Skyfall is warrior, and Twilight Crash is sort of mesmer.
So no, Trahearne didn’t reroll necro, he brought back dual profession builds from GW1 but somehow managed to make it so he can have four professions instead of two. :P
Probably the truth is that he’s a necro but after years past in orr farming risen(he admit he spend many years in orr) he realize that to be the Marshal of an army his necro skill wouldn’t have been enough, because even if he can summon 6 elite flash golem their AI is still bugged, the proof is that you lose some of them walking by , condition still has a cap and power do less damage than other power oriented professions. Then the Pale Tree hear his request, but just because he’s the main character of the story, and give him a GS with skill from better classes.
We need a 2h Hammer, that would’ve made me play my necro even more
I kinda miss that in GW1 your skills were unaffected by your weapon. It let me run around with an Icy Dragon Sword just cause it looked awesome (and I had pale blue/purple scar armour to match) :p
(Not in pvp of course, there I had a furious spear so I could build up adrenaline for my /W secondary skills)
I did toy with making a Spinal Shivers build so I could actually use the IDS, but it kinda sucked.
