Necros want to be hit… right. I’ve been thinking lately how to make that actually a thing. Best I can think of is baking traits into Death Magic. Here’s one idea:

Trait: Retaliatory Force
Gain Life Force while hit under the effects of Retaliation.

Any other ideas?

What about a trait that just converts the damage of retaliation into Life stealing? Something like “Insidious parasite” or something along those lines.

That combined with blood magic traits working in shroud could become a bit obscene as far as sustain goes.

As far as what to add to death shroud traits at this point I’d love to see some more retaliation & stability
If they are going to focus you at least make them pay for it.

If they are going to focus you at least make them pay for it.

maybe. But its fun to dream. Lol. It would probably have to be low healing. Like half the damage or something. It could be really interesting with Spiteful Spirit when it changes. I’d love to see a retaliation build on the necromancer. But I honestly don’t think Retaliation is quite good enough.

This brings up a point I meant to mention… Soul Comprehension needs to be replaced by something that isn’t terrible. o.O

Unfortunately, Death magic doesn’t have access to a WHOLE lot of retal baseline, that seems like something more geared toward Spite.

But something in place of SC would be very +1.

What if it had the added bonus of saying “whenever a foe or minion dies gain X” on top of its normal ability? I personally don’t want to strip its flavor away. It could even say minions grant life force on death. Which would be fitting for death.

The 20% is just terrible, and frankly, I’d LOVE to get away from on death traits… Especially one so bad. You already get Lf from things dying, a tiny boost means nothing, and it certainly does nothing for the tank tree of all trees. We need something that aids to defenses in a meaningful way, not likw 1% lf when something dies. They could do much better than that.

The other two are shaping up nicely though, I like them.

I don’t really like on-death because of how badly it applies to the game. Almost all remotely-challenging content, where defensive traits begin to matter, involve very low numbers of strong enemies. Plus SC is just weak, a Master minor that gives only 2% extra LF on death?

I would much rather a trait that gives some kind of defense, an AoE blind of some sort tied to DS would be nice due to the various sources of synergy we get from it.
