Trait lines for hybrid build ?
You can try something like that. Half berserker half rabid.
Rabid weapons on scepter+dagger for more condition damage and berserker on axe+warhorn for more direct damage.
It’s a hybrid build that will make you survive a lot and deal good damage.
You can unlock Spike and Curses before Blood Magic with no problems.
I used exotic gear for make an example but you can make your personal build and chose your personal equipment, more berserker or more condition, like you want.
About the elite, for PvE the best is the Lich Form or the Flesh Golem
If you don’t mind here is some tips for leveling as a necro as a solo PvE quester. There is 2 easy way :
- The easiest : minion master. Simply, this is the spec that don’t need any specific stuff, you can go with whatever you want, the minion have their own stat so they support you without any issue. For this spec and if you really want self survivability first, unlock Blood magic then death magic and spite at the end.
You can go with a full minion utility bar.

- Else, go for a well build. I know it doesn’t support as much condition but it will make you solid enough to engage almost everything. Again start by blood magic, then spite or soul reaping, it will be up to you.

My problem with minion master is that after testing it more than once some time ago (maybe 1 year), I decided that definitely they don’t like helping me, and most of the time I couldn’t count on them. This was true at least on ranged wapons such as Scepter, probably because they decide to attack only after I take some damage, which can take a little while when you’re kiting with a ranged weapon.
Was there some AI improvement recently to make them more trustful (just want them to attack my target when my first hit connects)?
Minions will engage the target on which you attack with your AA now, still they won’t switch their target if you change while they are still in combat. Their responsivness have been greatly improved since last year.
I’ve soloed easily caudecus manor and ascalonian catacomb story mode last week thanks to them. You should give them a second chance.

They DO change target when you do, they have been fixed and improved greately. I find them quite reliable now, great for leveling specially.
I believe Spoj had a nice solo/silverwaste build around here. It was a full on condition scepter/dagger build I believe. Hybrid isn’t great imo. Focus on conditions or power and things will die faster.
MM now work really good with the new fix on them.
I play MM in sPvP (not the metabattle build, it’s not the best one) and it work really good.
Anyway, in PvE they do good. I’ve tried once in pve but not so much because I don’t exp and use it against big boss is a waste of skills why the AoE attacks that will kill my minions instantly. In dungeon, if you’re not against a boss that AoE kill your minions in a second, they can work good.
To exp it can work well, in map exploring. But every mob you find you’re “forced” to kill him why your minions will attack him XD
But they’re strong.
This is what I run in PvE and I think it’s spectacular.
50% zerker, 50% sinister. Some interesting things to note is I currently take 4 traveler’s and 2 trapper runes for 20% condition duration, but could push that to 25 if i swapped out the traveler’s, I’m just hesitant at losing 15% boon duration even though all I give is might from BIP. The veggie pizza is essential for condi durations as well. 36-40% is too huge to pass up. The effect is too massive. I’d pack an axe in your bags too, for some fights. The geomancy rune on scepter could probably be replaced with something as well, not sure with what though, sigil of malice maybe.
I’ve almost always tried to make hybrid work for years now, Necro always had lots of advantages and good reasons to play hybrid, it’s a natural fit given traitlines like Curses, and how many of our weapon skills do things for both. I really hope some condi/power/ferocity armor comes out (and/or power/condi/ferocity), because of how high necros can get crit through traits, precision isn’t always warranted.

For PvE, run dagger main hand with war horn, unless you also run Signet of the Locust, which opens up focus off hand. Focus hits like a truck, if used right.
Keep staff as your backup. It allows you to AoE, kite, and burst, all from range to start fights sooner.
You can PvE with minions, which are like training wheels for Necromancer and very good after the September patch fixing AI glitches, or go with Spectral skills when solo, which are also, finally, good as a build. (Making minions useful in non-optimal situations takes a lot more skill, though.)
In a group or in world events, wells offer damage and ranged support.
