Transfusion heal for more in reaper.
Life Transfer hits 9 times. Soul Spiral hits 12.
Just guessing
Yes, that was my suspicion, but is that ok?! I think it should be the same for both and any future skill? The difference is pretty big.
It does not need to be a problem. I would argue this is actually good in the sense that Reaper is more meant to be in large fights which is also when you want to play support (unlike more 1v1-centric necro). The problem is that it just adds to the list of things making reaper superior to necro and contributing to the overall HoT power creep.

I think the mentality behind it is because its melee if should be more powerful. At some degree thats true, but skills/traits like transfusion are suppose to be universal. And you are right it, all the small buffs here and there pushed the reaper even further ahead.
Anet simply decided that death shroud users don’t need as as much heals. why? because Anet.
Actually reaper shroud was built to replace death shroud, all the elites were built to replace the cores. For some reason the devs are lying to themselves (or the public, or both) and saying that that isnt the case.
So soul spiral hitting more times and therefore giving more heals than death shroud is just because Reaper shroud is meant to be better than death shroud.

Reaper’s Shroud Transfusion has a shorter heal range than regular Shroud. While the downed teleport range is identical, Reaper Transfusion has a range of about 400, compared to regular Transfusion having 600 range.
Shorter range for more heal potency. I’d call that a fair tradeoff.

DS has no mobility skill for escape attempts and no stability so no not really a fair trade off

The “tradeoff” I referred to was for the Transfusion trait only.

Thats not true, both heal and teleport at 600 range.
In any case, DS is clearly inferior to RS. I can understand if the reason is a design choice to reward characters with sufficient mapping and general PvE completion but the power creap evident in all profession elite trait lines is real and was supposed to be something the original game designers thought to prevent by not allowing levels past 80.
I guess I would like to see core and elite specializations balanced better as far as investment cost and return. It is reasonable to expect turning Necromancer into a melee powerhouse to cost something. Running only core Necromancer traits and weapons should not be such a penalty game.
Life Transfer also has a 10 second longer cooldown. It’s drastically worse than Soul Spiral for Transfusion purposes.
Probably a good place for ANet to target for making base Necro more viable and frankly it’d probably make it more fun. Death Shroud is one of the most boring stances in the game because its 1 is so boring and everything else is on a huge CD.

Agreed. I feel like Reaper is in a great place, but base Shroud needs to be brought up to par.

Reaper’s Shroud is still pretty good for Power Reaper as well. Yes, you take a small DPS hit, but that’s the tradeoff for the vastly increased staying power over your regular melee weapons. In solo play, the mightstacking usually makes up for the DPS loss anyway.
Even in PvP formats, it’s not Reaper’s Shroud holding us back in Power builds. It’s the lack of ability to hit/survive in melee outside of it. And the lack of a decent ranged Power weapon.

Cool but not really what i was asking. Do you personally only play condition reaper in ranked PvP

Personally, I don’t play much ranked PvP at all, but I mix it up between condition, MM, and my own Mender’s sustain build. Condition is probably easiest, but I get good results on all three.

I hate to say it but if you don’t play ranked you wont have any idea on how good reaper’s place is. Reaper might be in a good place compared to PvE mobs but that doesnt mean much when classes are balanced around PvP
Reaper may be good, but I bet ya my base necro can destroy your reaper
