Enough is enough patch after patch after patch waiting for a

Necromancer:
Leaving death shroud no longer causes utility’s and heals to lock out

I feel as if this is either an intended screw you necros mechanic or devs are simply not aware of the issue.

I have messaged both Josh Davis and Jon Chaplan in game about the issue without acknowledgement… grouch may have been afk but I know chap was there.

This bug breaks the necro profession and needs fixing asap.

Im making sure someone sees this and it is addressed.

Im afraid that this may be the case, if it is i’m definitely quitting the class and moving on probably leaving the game until they decide to eliminate it (if working as intended) and i’ve been a day 1 necro supporter.

Noble our class actually works fairly well without all the amenities that the other classes possess. The problem a majority of necros are facing is the All or Nothing concept when it comes to build making (mainly pvp wvw). I will admit blood magic is garbage as of right now, but at the same time people dont understand how to and when to tank damage via life siphons so the build ends up falling flat. (I’ve literally had it so my health stays above 95% via life siphons but it still needs tweaking)

There are a variety of builds including shroud fighter attrition, hybrid control builds, minion master boon rip builds, Life siphon tank well builds, support healing builds.
Unfortunately most choose to go MAX condi dmg or MAX power/crit and miss out on learning how to correctly use other utilitys. The view on the necro forums about how the class performs is a bit skewed but at the same time holds some merit as many of our mechanics are indeed clunky / hard to use.

Necros in wvw need a mobility boost, whether or not ANET agrees or disagrees necros absolutely need it in WvW. Trying to run with a guild filled with leaps and teleports and all of the necros are left behind and force our group to halt and wait for the slugs to catch up (yes thats my main issue with necro mobility in wvw). Unacceptable game design.

Overall I will be happy with this 1 simple UI fix.

Let’s just hope that one day the UI-delay will accidentally affect the gemstore or the tp. it will be fixed within hours then.
(either that or necro-ui gets removed completely, so the store isnt in danger anymore)

I would rather it stayed and the developers balanced around going into death shroud and staying in death shroud, instead of what they are currently doing: Balancing around shroud dancing to absorb hits instead of dodging.

But if they are going to balance around shroud dancing (go back to their comments on fury and stability traits for confirmation), then they should actually let the class have the play style they are balancing around.

Well to be fair other professions also have bad access to stability (thieves, engies,…) and in theory necros have the highest stability up time of all professions but yeah it is unpractical. Well the other points i could agree with.

But back to the topic, they know about the bug and said that they will fix it…
But most bug fixes for necros take 4 or more months unless it is something unimportant…

Necromancer was my first class after BWE. Been playing it ever since the 3 day head start. This is an extremely accurate depiction of the necromancer balance philosophy with ANet. I honestly feel that they don’t have a single clue what they want us to do as a class.

ANet has flip flopped on so many design decisions, nerfed skill functionality that goes against our design philosophy, and gone back on so many promises with this class, that I’m honestly wondering if its not best for everyone at ANet to just completely ignore this class exists from this point on and focus their resources on other classes. This way those of us left that still play this class can finally know its time to stop holding out hope and move on. I’m really getting tired of grinding for ascended pieces, only to have to discard all my hard work and start over with a new set of stats.

This nerfing of builds, rearranging of traits due to the addition of a new GM trait in a completely unrelated tree, ineffectual and hilariously pointless buffs, and changing/nerfing of skill/trait functionality based on one trait no necromancer has ever wanted and still do not want has seriously got to stop. ANet needs to wise the kitten up and admit they made a mistake, REMOVE the offending trait, and revert all the changes based on that trait, and fix this class by making us the promised attrition class they keep thinking we are. Necromancers are not an attrition class. This class functions as a burst damage class currently. Even the condition build is all about bursting as hard and fast as possible! There is nothing attrition about necromancers.

EDIT: Decided to include a screenshot showing the considerable amount of time, money, and effort I have put into this one class. It has me a little frustrated at this point. The bottom bank panel, the armor belongs to my warrior, but the trinkets are all soulbound to my necromancer. Everything else in there belongs to my necromancer.

Maybe they have two developers who play rock, paper, scissors every balance patch. The winner gets to decide the changes to necromancer. One developer was one of the original creators of the profession and the other developer is an intern who plays 8 hours of CoD every day and can’t be bothered to fix bugs.

- Spectral walk default 10s duration, 15s with trait.

- Remove Dumbfire. Replace with a power-centric trait (AoE bite on dagger 1 attack 3 perhaps). WE DO NOT WANT OR NEED BURNING.

- Change 25pt Spite to proc at 40% health. Max 1 stacks/s, duration 15s.

- 6 stack vuln/3s for Deathly Shivers. Deathly Shivers now has an animation and AoE circle marker.

- Cast time for WoP is now instant. Does not grant 1s stability.

- Cast time for Summon Flesh Wurm is now instant.

- 25pt Curses trait now gives 1% more condition damage for each condition you are suffering.

- Death Shroud no longer locks out abilties after exiting.

- Can see cooldown timers in Death Shroud.

- Axe 3 is blast finisher, WH 4 is blast finisher, Life Blast is 20% projectile finisher.

But hey, I’m no developer.

- Stability/Endurance Regen/Block/Invul/Reflect. (Or something stops us being only class not to be able to avid 1shot mechanics after 20sec [Pref not a boon]).

- Remove the new 10sec CD on ‘exit DS’. (Such a simple thing would open up such deeper play, as we don’t get LForce when mobs die if were in DS, it would also make the exit DS heal area a viable tatic. etc)

- Water Proof Elite Minion. (I don’t even care if he no swim, just don’t give us full CD if he get’s wet)

- Dumbfire. Total wrong god in lore, it’s a condition not power, I would have been more happy if you called it burning itch. But really, just shelf it.

- Individual Condi Stacks/Objects can take dam. (At lest in PvE)

- Boss’s can be crit/trigger marks. (Even if the dam is same as non-crit, it just lets crit required things to work)

- Minions don’t count as players and upscale events.

- Minions get a max 75% life loss per hit/lower there life again in PvE. (Boringly OP vs world trash, 1shot killed any real fight)

- A ‘come back’ button so minions don’t lava bath too long/we can pull them into range for Transfusion heal.

- Res players in DS without same GCD exploit. (At least in PvE)

- Melee cleave.

- Minion skins (Soo ugly, why dose one look like a reanimated dead mob/brakes lore)

- Minipets that don’t de spawn every time you sneeze. (Ones that don’t take bag space too)[Ok not a huge issue, but I know people who mock GW2 for being sooo far behind other games there mini-pets are even a hindrance]

- Heals/Combo Finishers/Condi Cleans in DS. – Fix our real life getting eaten while in DS. (In a fair heals way, even a party frame that dosen’t show someone in DS looking like there life is almost all gone and throwing 100% wasted burst heals.)

-Transforms that don’t despawn all minions.

-Access to combo finishers that an’t minions or low chance on staff.

- Oh yeh, the UI now giving us heal/utils when exiting DS. (While your at it, want to fix/get rid of the crazy silly number on our life force bar. It really makes your crazy life force isn’t max life or anything that makes sense stand out.)

It’;s not actually a UI delay though is it: you’re ACTUALLY locked out of your utilities, right? It’s not that they simply don’t show on your skillbar, they’re unuseable!

Another weird thing that happened to me today, activating a stunbreak (wurm) while casting my healing skill interrupted it. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t an enemy player that did it, because there was no stun/dazed icon on my status bar. Plus, the wurm teleported me away from wherever any enemy could have reached me with an interrupt, and the healing skill wasn’t interrupted till after the stunbreak.
I wasn’t able to reproduce this in the mists. Has it happened to anyone else?

Acceptable, although I would add teleport function does not end when LF regen effect ends but only within a certain radius from the activation point I.E run out of the radius and lose SW teleport, the radius would be the same as the furthest amount of yards you can currently run with how SW is now.

Trait shouldn’t be might we have reapers might that blows this out of the water at 1st tier

Necro balancing has indeed been laughable, but lets not get off topic here.

This UI lockout / delay whatever you may call it seems random and does not happen everytime you exit. Sometimes it happens when i force exit DS, sometimes it happens when i let it drain out. Sometimes its 1/2 second sometimes upwards to 2 seconds, very very random indeed.

I don’t like how so many keep saying “we”, talking for everybody else without their permission.
I said this back when Dhuumfire was added and I’ll say it again: I like it.
It definitely has needed many tweaks, but I like the concept of it a lot.
Combining Fire and Undeath fills me with glee!

With that said I’m extremely disappointed in the amount of bugs Necros have and had in the past.

The downed health fix took way too long and the weapon switch in DS thing was just bizarre.

Even so they’ve also made many changes I like, like adding Dhuumfire, buffing Vital Persistence, changing the way UI for Death Shroud works and (although too minor) buffing Vampiric traits.

I think that they should prioritize bug fixes before balance, though, as bugs affect balance.

It’s most likely related to DS being a transformation mechanic that blocks our normal skills and the interactions between that and client /server desync which is unavoidable.

Honestly the only way they could probably fix that without an engine rewrite that may still not work is change DS to work like a weapon bundle instead; but we’d lose some functionality of some sort to implement that.

Edit: or condense DS to F1-F4 skills that consume life-force as fuel without a transformation.

The DS bar as a hitpoint bar substitute most likely, since that is tied to the transformation.

nah, if i remember it correctly, there was a time with no utility-delay. i think that got implemented when they removed the ability to switch weapons while in DS. so the hitpoint substitute at least worked without the delay.

The delay just may have not been nearly as noticeable/more tolerable before the whole damage overflow from DS to normal HP change too, since having a bit of DS left would still help against a spike. Right now it is very noticeable since the delay usually directly or indirectly results in death now instead of a moment of inconvenience.

Plus, other netcode/zone tweaks have been done since release as well that may be playing into this.

You should also note that going into DS removes the passive effect of signets from you. Or at least appears to: the signet icon doesn’t appear in your status area, so I assume it’s not applied. This might be by design, but since other effects that have been activated before entering DS (Locust Swarm, Spectral Walk, Spectral Armour) persist through the transformation, I have to assume that this is rather a bug that arises due to the utility lock-out.

Of course, they’ll never admit it and insist it’s by design, like the 40" lockout if Putrid Mark is interrupted. Since it’s “the best skill in the game” apparently.

Amen brother, the sooner the “second health bar” mechanic goes out the window the better! It’s been a nightmare to balance since BWE1! Just make life force an energy bar that powers F1-F4 abities.
And yes, I know that having to BUILD UP life force in order to start using your class mechanics will also be a challenge to balance, but, hell, they managed it for warriors just fine – between disposable and easily resummonable minions, spectral skills, and traits that increase life force gain it shouldn’t be anywhere near as hard to balance as giving us an extra 12-20k HP to play with depending on build, a buggy transformation mechanic that stops us from healing our REAL health bar and locks us out of our healing and utility, and skills that only work during the transformation!

I seriously wish ds was broken into multiple skills that drained life force. That way we wouldn’t have a meat shield and attacks built into one skill but the class would be far more versatile.

Our exchanges with every other class is that of a child and a pill bug.

Fully agree, and may I add it’s not just that your team can’t support you: being locked out of your utilities means you can’t effectively support them either. (The only exception possibly being fearing someone about to stomp your teammate, or underwater DS4 which I don’t think I’ve EVER clicked except by accident since I don’t pvp underwater and I mostly pve on my own.)
And yet a necro with a full life bar is at a TREMENDOUS advantage 1v1, as you can pop it instantly whenever you feel their burst coming and let them blow their cooldown skills burning through your life force. You come out of it healthy and rosy-cheeked and they’re on full cd, and it’s goodnight nurse. OTOH in a team fight even a full DS bar makes hardly any difference, because no amount of extra health is gonna be enough if you’re chain-CCed and being wailed on by 3 people.

I remember when I was reading pre-beta interviews DS was originally meant to be the necro’s downed state. Not sure how that would have worked, but it’s clear that the “extra health” idea originated from that and you can just tell it was a hurried and not well thought out change. At this stage, inertia, fear of a backlash from players, and the daunting complexity of how any substantial change will affect the overall game balance means it’s unlikely to be changed, particularly with balance patches being SO FAR APART!
