Very new player, leveling questions
I’m not really an expert or anything, but after the trait changes last year build don’t really come into there own until the level cap. But I am sure that someone more familiar with necromancer (I haven’t leveled one since before the NPE/trait changes) will point you in the right direction.

Pretty much this. Since they revamped the trait system you don’t even get your first trait until level 30 (and only 1 per 6 levels after that not counting the final one), so any builds anyone may recommend wouldn’t flesh out until level cap.
The best leveling build we can really recommend is just equipping minion skills. They don’t really need traits to work for PvE.
Actually, the Necromancer profession as a whole isn’t as trait reliant as other professions (like Mesmer). Leveling is probably easiest on them and Warrior.
Tried some condi last night and it was fun when the mobs were grouped up. For single target it kinda sucked.
Then tried minions but they just seem to stand still for me =/
After a while I just equipped dagger/warhorn and used wells for aoe and that was fast all round but abit more squishy
Wells and minions both work pretty well for leveling, conditions are actually pretty decent for leveling too though. When my main necromancer was new, I ran condition minionmancer and it worked out pretty smoothly for leveling.
Hmm maybe Ill try that, what minions were you using then? And I am guessing you also used epidemic so thats one less minion?
I ran blood fiend for sustained healing when I did not need condition removal, bone fiend, bone minions, epidemic, and flesh golem.
Sorry for all the questions but what weapon setup did you use then and how would you enter a fight?
I personally ran scepter/dagger with warhorn for mobility. Opened with scepter 2 and then dagger 5, then scepter 3, then auto attacks.
Basicly what I do now, think ill try condition again but rebind my keys, completely forgot about that so when putting down curses it became a hassle lol
A personal tip of mine would be to go to general options in the options menu, down to Combat/Movement, and switching ground targeting to “Fast with Range Indicator”. It makes it so you hold down the key while targeting and then release to cast, it helps quite a bit.
Interesting, have to check that out! Thanks alot for the tips, going to try some more conditionmancer when I get home, just felt that single target was abit slow but maybe I’ll get used to it or just have to tag some more mobs
That kinda sucks but I have alot of friends who I play with and hopefully they can take me along and I do enjoy the PvP scene alot aswell
Necros are in a pretty decent spot in sPvP, but they do currently suffer from problems as being targeted first, as some of our skills are quite threatening, like corrupt boon.
Well it was between my necro and my Ranger tbh but they ranger seems even more useless in PvE then the necro does and the ele or mesmer is not something that interests me at all tbh So I went with the necro

more like because we have 0 defences that stack with numbers .. have 0 defences against cc have a “2nd health bar” that does not stop damage leaching to our real health pool and requires specific skills to build it have long cast times on many of our skills so easy to stop from doing anything.
on a side note if you go to pvp and not wvw then give 62006 a go
signet mastery, axe matery and close to death
focused rituals
0
0
vital persistance, unyielding blast and death perception
gear ogre runes, berserker amulet, axe, dagger, staff
wos, woc, plague signet,litch
i have found that i can cause quite a bit of trouble on engagement with this and most 1v1’s have been fun because i have not been hard countered due to all the condi transfer stunbreak area denial retaliation boon removal lf generation interrupts and damage
with axe 3 after i force a dodge with a well i can hit up to 6-7k damage my lifeblasts do 4-5k damage each hit and an uninterupted transfusion can hit a group for 3-4k each
after getting qite disgruntled with the necro after all the nerfs this build has brought me back to enjoying the class. i have even held a point against 3 enemies (not all at once.. starting off with one then when he is half way someone else turns up then i got them both in downstate and another turns up
@Az, Rangers are in a good place in pve these days. Not sure were you heard they’re a mess from. With good dps from s/a lb spotter and frost spirit they’re welcome in most groups. The necro (my fav class) brings nothing to the table in group pve except dps. I just use mine for PVP now

Hmm how are the rangers in PvP then and WvW? I solo alot and I mean alot, sometimes I will do dungeons with my mates but mostly solo and map completion and some pug pvp from time to time and WvW aswell. Maybe I have picked the wrng class anyways?
Rangers are good in both spvp and wvw. They have a condi spec and power spec just like necro. I’d say necro is better in wvw then ranger though. It’s all about skill tbh. That’s way more important then class.
And for open world solo nothing beats a ranger. Get a bear and a longbow and watch a good movie while you lvl.
Question is if they are fun aswell? Maybe I’ll level the ranger to max level to just see the game and then level the necro.
Well like I said necro is my favorite class but being a primarily pve player I started playing other classes more and more. Play what you enjoy IMO. Hopefully with the new xpac they can make necros wanted in pve.
Ye think I’ll stick to the necro tbh, love they way the feel and since I can do PvE with my guild I dont think it will be a problem, home to try out Condition again
Played some more last night and clearing hearts was really fast as condi! Hitting up single target mobs on the other hand did take some time but I guess I cant be good at both
