JUST SOME RANDOM WVW THOUGHTS FROM A RANDOM SCOURGE TESTER:

Here’s a vid of me trying out Scourge for the first time with my guild in a 25-30man setting. As for the build I had celestial gear on, with durability runes. 2x torment sigil, 1 energy and 1 corruption sigil on my weapons. As for traitlines, I ran Scourge 1-1-1, Curses 1-2-2, Soul Reaping 2-2-3.

I intended this build to be more of a ajck of all trades guy that could put out decent amount of barriers with decent condi flips and condi clears. What ended up happening in my opinion is that it did all it’s job WAY TOO GOOD. Like, insanely overpowered good. I should’ve have even ran Scourge 1-3-1 to get more boon corrupts on my enemies to be honest. But like I said this was my first day trying it and my intent was to do a bit of more support.

I regularly play cele reaper and condi rev for my WvW guild and can decently do top1-5 DPS but usually my guildies can do just about the same, beat me, or barely be below. But as you can see from this video, I was almost doubling the 2nd best DPS in some of the fights. Even on the first fight in the video it was outputting 600k total while the next best was 280k (our engi usually could keep up with me on my reaper or rev). And that’s coming from a guy who was to be quite honest just mashing my f2-5 skills after I summon my greater shade. I honestly had no problems with stab and condis for the most part as I had my frontline party to fall back on. It’s just insane though how much damage you can be doing while at the same time I was also putting out barriers on (potentially 20) allies and that in turn was also cleansing them of condi’s at a very fast pace.

In a large scale fight where everyone else dies, I usually don’t even have to worry about my life force. This is obviously very different in smaller scale fights and in 1v1’s, but when we’re talking 40+ people clashing together, there’s gonna be downs everywhere and life force out the kitten

Dhuumfire is just too good to use over having a stunbreak and 1 stack of stability especially if you’re in a competent frontline party (shoutouts to my guards!)

Greater Sands is just too good (and way more convenient) from a support standpoint, and honestly not losing too much over the other traits (except demonic lore I guess has more potential for damage), stealing the boons don’t really matter much with a frontline party since you already get what you’d need from other people.

Even with barely any mobility compared to Reaper, I just had to play a bit more laid back but I still was usually able to go into the melee clump when I needed to barrier that clump, or I just place my shade there too.

Honestly my final thoughts would just be to tone down everything. I still like the core mechanic of the Scourge class that I wouldn’t mind if it was scaled back down. I don’t think I should be able to clear 1000 conditions on allies while stripping about 700 boons on my enemies in a fight while maintaining insane damage. As for specific fixes and scaling down, I’m honestly just gonna leave it up to you guys to discuss this since I’d have no clue. lol.

Just to remind everyone this is a demo, and it’s good that people are giving feedback. The goal is to help ANet with scaling things up/down to make for an enjoyable gameplay for everyone.

You’ll get a lot of naysayers, but what you say is unfortunately true.

This is why people complain about scourge. And they aren’t even wrong.

My sincere hope is that this will be handled not by nerfing scourge to the ground, so it’s balanced in wvwvw (and therefore trash in PvE), but by splitting PvE and PvP/WvWvW versions of our skills.

Yeah definitely. I think the best way to go about it is splitting how much it scaled in pve/pvp/wvw to be honest. I love the mechanics of scourge and it’d suck if it gets nerfed to the ground in one game mode for the sake of other game modes or vice versa.
