WTB Life Force
I made a suggestion many ages ago to have a set % that lifeforce settles to while out of combat. That set % can be adjusted for sake of balance.
There is way too much of a difference between starting a fight against a necro with 100% lifeforce compared to 0% lifeforce.

Necromancers should be able to generate life force outside of combat, how is that OP in anyway I wouldn’t know. On hit and spectral abilities should be a means to generate life force in combat, not our only way to do it.
Even in wvw I will have classes reset the fight and come back in full force while I have a quarter of my life force left since I was unfortunate enough not to have ambient creatures buzzing around me.

When you enter a match in the 10s before match start Summon Shadow Fiend, Bone Fiend and Flesh Golem, then swap them for the skills that you actually want to take before the 10s expires. Voila, 30% LF at match start (you may want to start with only 2 until you get the timing down).
It feels dirty doing it (kind of like playing Necro in tPvP in general right now), but it is a functional trick. It isn’t considered an exploit, as it has been in game forever with no action to correct it.
This is the last thing you guys need. As a Necro who used to play and enjoy the profession on the side before the over the top overpowered changes you guys got, I never really had too much trouble with this outside of very specific situations in sPvP. You guys are already getting 2+ bars of life force if you play your cards right (use your accumulated force before spectral armor pops in the traitline, excluding utilities) and you don’t need any more room to be able to screw up and have your way with the AoE spamfest Necro and the meta in general have become. Necro has a ramp-up time; This is intended. Death shroud is a powerful mechanic, and it shouldn’t be handed out like free candy.

Necro isn’t suppose to be able to defend them self. Any decent player should be able to easily counter them gen’ing life force. (Example, avoid a necro’s Axe #2, it’s highly visual and will skip them doing any burst damage, or getting any defense.)
The only way to use Death Shroud, is with exploits. Gen life force with minions, DS in the same upload cycle as stomp/res, use transfusion to heal yourself, and skip the 10sec exit DS CD by letting your life force run low, then use #4 as DS is about to end.
Oh there not exploits sorry, they are bugs in the game, that have been left as ‘balance’.
Minion Master. Not only dose this game not summon your minions… It puts them on full CD, if you die. No DS, no Minions. (Or my personal fav, get a full elite CD for entering a map because you spawn in front of water.)
Necros are a heavily momentum based class, very strong once the ball gets rolling. From the perspective of your enemy team, I have to kill that necro before he builds up momentum, life force or aoe condi depending on the circumstances, because once he does he’ll buttkitten everything.

If you’re on Battle of Kyhlo with a Warhorn, you can use Locust Swarm on the crates next to the home capture point and hope no one destroys it. :P

With DS now passing overflow damage onto the health orb, i am not sure how valuable that will be.

It will let us open with fear, shackles, teleport, watever, that is my main concern.

The lack of ds at the start is not a problem in hotjoins, but it is crippling for both the necro and his team in tpvp, not to mention custom arena duels. Imagine if rangers couldn’t summon their pets for the first fight, or elementalist couldn’t switch to air attunement at the beginning of each match. Our class is balanced around ds, it is our core ability and our only way to mitigate some damage when focused (and the necro will be the first one to get focused). I understand, that our class is designed to have a build-up time, but being unable to use 1/3 of your class at the beginning sounds a little too harsh. Also, I am asking for 50% which I belive is completely reasonable but the amount of lf is open for discussion and balancing.
The only way I can see to generate life force from 0 without exposing yourself to being focused is to use your staff and soul marks trait to build lifeforce up at about 1200 range.
Of course this is just another reason I don’t spvp.
