Wanna main a necro
The stigma of necros comes from the old world of Guild Wars 2. Luckily, for dungeons (literally the easiest part of end game) and fractals, necros are just fine. You might get some shifty eyes in later leveled fractals, but condition necros do just fine there.
In raids, they used to be meta, but now you’re better off finding a guild that does raids with good communication over pugs.
Just don’t expect a good time in solo pvp.
Well, AFAIK necros are unwanted only in raiding currently. In PvP you may not have the best time being the most frequently focused class but most teams will just focus you in the beginning and forget about it afterwards, so you can have an impact. Necro is one of the best DPS for PvP so when you aren’t focused, you can really make a difference.
Sonya for females. (necro,rev,ranger,mes,engi)
All classes lvl 80.
epidemic on downed targeted enemy in pvp xD
necro is very nice in pvp and fractals. Dungeons are too easy to care about which classes are in, but raids are the one place where you have a 1/50 chance of not being welcome.
I have the main concerns about maining a reaper. I’m deciding between war and necro. It is hard because I just want to be able to get into raids in the future.

Then warrior is a safe bet. Nothing will probably ever replace a PS Warrior. It’s one of those builds that is always welcome in group content.

The stigma has always existed, but it’s never amounted to too much (at least during my 4 years of maining one).
When it comes to dungeons or fractals (even the higher tier fractals) I’ve often found that if a group has that stigma, the group is going to have a difficult time clearing content anyway. My best groups are those filled with people who understand its based off skill level, not class.
Raids are slightly different – not because of any stigma but because necromancers aren’t required. You have the professions that are considered “required” like chronomancer and once those spots have been taking in a 10-man group, the rest are filled with different types of damage. Since necromancer can’t compete as well in direct damage as other classes, they mainly play the role of condition damage, which is competed for with engineer and other condi classes.
TL;DR:
Dungeons/Fractals there’s no stigma if the group is any good
Raids are only hard because you’re not a required class and therefore, you have to compete with other classes that may have more damage/support abilities depending upon which part of the raid you’re completing.
Necro weren’t wanted in the old PvE meta, before HoT release and condition damage buff. Back then Sinister and Viper armor / trinkets weren’t available and Necros were outcasts alongside Bearbow Rangers specially when it came to Dungeon running, that was old end-game content.
Right now, Necros do pretty decent in PvE, you might see FotM groups asking for nothing but Necros, this is because of the Epidemic utility “bounce” that copies conditions from a target to all adjacent foes. Having multiple necros cast it results in great condition spam, therefore in shorter fights against groups or Bosses that spwan with adds alongside them .
Strictly speaking, Necros still have one of the lowest DPS (source: http://qtfy.enjin.com/dps ) but utilities such as epidemic, projectile blocking from Corrosive Poison Cloud, excellent CC and great survivability (high vitality + second lifebar) make running end-game, like FotM, content a breeze.
Necros are also wanted in Raids where some bosses only take condition damage (Red Guard at VG) and when you need to Copy all conditions from Boss to lesser adds to whipe them fast (Gorseval).
