We are Necromancers
Bhawb,
What have you been working on lately? Even though some of the minion skills are lack luster. What is it that you are doing to make it work? I confess to not ever really running minions. but something about it interests me. If nothing more than a tool in the toolbox.
Spoj,
I know you have been playing your Ele more as of late. Do you still get in with your girl? Have you gotten a chance to try out the new Mai Trin with her?
I managed to Solo her the other day it was only a level 20 but it was a rough fight. Yes you can Shroud the shot it seems. just barely though.
Zombify,
What has been going through your game lately. You have the potential for the All star. What have you been running? How do you fight some of those classes at that level? What kind of team build do you prefer to be in and what build do you run if your team is building around you?
_
I have been PLaying a bit with Leeto’s Dagger Shroud build in sPvP a bit and some in WvW. just cant seem to get the hang of it. But Condi seems so out of it with all of the removal everywhere? Is Power becoming a dominant concept? or is it just me that needs to be more open to adjustments based upon my chosen field of battle.
I struggle with every class right now. But it seems GS memsers have been particularly irritating.
Ohh, I got a Chance to Fear the Risen Priest of Balthzar the other night. talk about lucky. it was a glorious 3 seconds. immedietly followed by 65 stacks of defiant
What about the rest of you.
Come, Revel in our silliness.
lets all make being Necromancers cool again. even if its just between us.
:)
ohh,
and remember, no whining.
What is glorious to me when I play a Necromancer, when we actually play as a team, is when I outplay my opponent… I know that Necromancers have followed a cycle of nerfs (debatably worse than Mesmer), yet there is no such thing as “impossible” when fighting a 1v1 or a 2v2…
I am reliable as a Necromancer on the team despite of what people say about the class – and only on my Ele or Warrior do I feel as comfortable playing one for the team!
Screw the ToL setups, forget about Necromancer’s being the weakest link in a teamfight – make it work and bathe in the tears of an enemy, knowing that they got outplayed…

outstanding!
IF you could create your own version of PvP team built around you as the Necromancer. What would it be? i am curious?
what build would you run? how would you counter what you think they would stack to “counter” you?

The build I am running is an oddity… This build is centered around me being a home defender and occasional mid-support… I have come to terms with being “slow” and have found my sweetspot lying in these places, of course, it changes as to how my team rotates…
In 1v1’s you do not have to fear being shut down by the enemy… Usually, when you got a proper team which checks for incomming, you should have enough time to capture a point… There are but little classes which can force you from it, with maybe the exception of a Hambow – but even for that I am prepared… Usually when a Warrior comes, they instantly pop Berserker Stance, as it also gives adrenaline… At this point you use Plague Form and just tank the living hell out of Berserker Stance… Once over, the warrior has limited options to keep track of what’s thrown to him… In the end, when played well, they will die, or you will have bought enough time for your roamer to come and finish it quickly…
Foot in the Grave – Yes, absolutely run it… When you mastered Shroudstomping, it is the most reliable way in a teamfight to finish people – or even outside of it, aside from Plague stomping…
Your main damage comes from the fears and the way you use Corrupt Boon and your fears… Keep track of those who like to use Regeneration, but got no way to get it back quickly… Might stackers are very prominent nowadays, especially on Eles and Warriors, but neither can stand Chill and having those might stacks removed… Path of Corruption is your best friend against those enemies…
In team-midfights it is all about placement… You should never just charge into the battle, unless the odds are with you… Instead, allow yourself to freecast from a ledge while your semi-bunkers soak up the damage for you… Check if someone’s health goes down, and save your Corrupt Boon for when the enemy wants to safestomp with stability – your teammates will love you…
Save Signet of Spite for the right moment, never use it at the start of a fight since it’s potential will be wasted… Drain the enemy of it’s protection in the form of cleanses, and strike when they are about the percentage in which you feel comfortable… The burst of a Necromancer got nerfed, use it wisely (Though the signet recharge helps it a bit)
Of course, there will be always encounters troubling for you, say a Mesmer just shooting you from range (remember, their ranged capabilities are way stronger than ours), but be the right person at the right place and a Necromancer can be the worst to face for an enemy team… Especially if that team has an Engineer who likes to 1v1 said Necro
Many itterations of the Terrormancer still work of course, this is however what I feel most comfortable with…

I have tried her on my new necro at lvl 38. Unfortunately the life force generation was really lacking so i was forced to rely on teammates to get me through. But generally I avoid using the class in group stuff as id rather not dwell on the weaknesses and lack of support.
That said the fact that i leveled another necro shows that I like the aesthetic enough to do so.
I think the only thing that really stands out for me is accomplishing solo’s on the class despite its weaknesses. My 8 min berserker lupi solo was really satisfying as noone thought it was possible to get a time well under 10 minutes. And I had a great deal of fun soloing the Priest of Melandru on my necro before megaservers came about. Unfortunately i never got the chance to record an uninterrupted solo before Vabbi guesting was destroyed. :<

I know I’m not really prolific necromancer or anything but I thought I’d post too. I feel most glorious playing necro with my guild in WvW. Nothing is more satisfying to me than bombing a choke with 2 wells inside a guardian hammer ring, going into deathshroud, and watching 2K crits happen on 5 unfortunate victims for 5 seconds, nevertheless piercing life blasts through groups or healing my group with transfusion.
I feel so utterly powerful and useful in WvW knowing the part I play in our enemy’s destruction. I run with a good group, and I don’t have too much trouble these days. Enemy gank squads are a pain, but plague is enough of an oh kitten button to save me from that. I will need to invest in melandru runes though, just since that would help me so much against all manner of CC and controlling conditions.
That being said, I’m utterly in love with my necromancer as my main character. I finally finished making howler for it, and I’m reveling in its aura of foggy wonder and mystery. Now I’m slowly upgrading to T3 cultural and I’m trying to think of cool axe, dagger and staff skins to complement my look in WvW in pvp, that go well with howler.
Heres a picture of how utterly kitten I look.

Everyone is welcome to post.
we are all family here.

What kind of set up are you using for your WvW stuff Nearlight?
I have been running in there periodically and it seems i have been running something different each time I go.

This is the build I have been using lately in terms of traits. I’m saving up for the melandru runes at the moment. I like the idea behind them because they add so much passive defense, you don’t need to go into death magic as much. I do like armored shroud for the extra damage reduction though. I was torn about using scholar runes instead though, for the great amount of extra power and crit damage, but I believe that melandru’s – stun duration is a godsend for necromancers. That being said I know of more damage oriented builds (not like this one isn’t) that go 30/10/0/0/30 with axe focus and use hoelbrak runes to help build might from lifeblast and troll people with focus 5.
I like the bloodmagic traits for WvW such as the well recharge trait, which is a very valuable trait in my opinion as I spend more time with necromancer in WvW. Transfusion is also a nice heal for our allies and the BM gm minor is a nice bit of extra power that is easy enough to maintain. I wish we didn’t need axe training to have max damage lifeblasts, since I don’t like relying on staff. I basically just spam my marks, and switch to axe to focus targets, and use my wells when my driver tells me too.
Oh yeah and you can use more offensive food if you’d like.

In almost every MMORPG I had played, I normally go for the dark-arts-wielder-type character. And finding one in this game who is not limited to staff and skirts (sorry… robes!) was like getting a 2nd Christmas on July.
I had leveled 10 characters to lvl 80, and 3 of those are Necromancers. I had tested all the necro-builds I had cross my path with, and finally settled to one that suits my playstyle very nicely. Is a shame that a vampiric build isn’t viable.
I love the idea of WvW, but I normally don’t go there, because its nature is that the bigger zerg wins. So, I am normally at PvE (something like 80% of my online time) and PvP (the remaining 20%), where one hero can make the difference.
On PvE I love to go to dungeons and fractals with my guildies. To see how they look in awe as I enter the battlefield, and then come out almost unharmed; to see them dead and I finishing the boss (I swear that I didn’t kill them! but they made some lovely minions!); those are the great moments of life.
On PvP, I love when someone start crying out loud that our party is going to lose because it has one necro. Finishing first or second on the point table is reaaaaaally nice after that. Ah! And my more memorable battle was one where, by dumb luck, our party were 4 necros and 1 guardian. To see the our minions on stampede against our enemies was just beautiful.

I’ve actually been trying to get streaming working. No promises yet but maybe, since it lets me get minion gameplay/theory stuff out there without all the work that editing and youtube entails.
Currently I run this build although I’m testing Dwayna because I think it might overall increase the AoE healing and regen healing, and since I have so few boons the loss of the boon duration isn’t too bad. The real thing I need to see is if I have too much regen, or if the “extra” healing is worth it not being instant and potentially wasted.
Basically you have a ton of self healing, almost 2k per weapon swap, 3k per dagger 2, 1.4k from Water runes (2.4k from Dwayna), lots of regen, 6.6k base Consume with 860 per condition removed (easy 10k+ heal), plus Vampiric and VM healing. And to your minions you get the Water/Dwayna, Renewal sigil, some regen, and 5.2k Transfusion gives them a lot of extra tankiness, and some teamfight help.
On top of all that defense (which is more than enough to stay alive through 2v1s and some 3v1s), you have a lot of sustained damage, and armor ignoring (leeching, Vamp, VM) damage that will wear people down alongside tons of hard CC, permanent soft CC, perma poison, lots of weakness, etc.
I don’t know that it is competitive viable, but a lot of the perceived weaknesses can be worked around and if you know how to rotate and force fights you can be a huge pain in the kitten .

you know i think thats really the nuts and bolts to it.
the “meta” for at least pvp is so well documented that it can really just come down to us as Necromancers and finding those skills and or a play style that not only works but we also enjoy playing. It not about what we DONT have. its about what we DO have and how to make it work.
Awesome to hear for the Build. by all means let us know when you get some streaming done and we can all check it out.
Any opinions out there for a “power staff” set up?
I keep finding myself running along side havocs and zergs and mostly just camping staff and flashing DS.
wondered about some strength runes and sigil for Might procs. and just marking the ground. Condies although usefull, of course you have a helluva time trying to keep them ticking.
Power staff camping???
can marks even crit?
