What Greatsword skills you want?
Visually, I kind of just want them to stick with what they’ve done with the other skills really. Necro has some of the best looking attacks IMO, what with the phantom claws and fangs and such. Maybe the GS could be a bit more focused on more physical things, like bone shards, to give it a slightly unique flavor, but I don’t really want them to deviate too much.
As far as the actual skills go in terms of stats, being a cleave weapon is the obvious answer since its something Necro rather lacks (and its a GS). As long as its got cleave and some full AoE I’ll be pretty satisfied with it, I think. Actually, if they made it something like the spear but on land (cleave, melee AoE damage ability, AoE life steal, pull) that would be really neat, I really like the spear skillset.
A blast finisher and a leap finisher. I honestly don’t really care what else it gets but GS NEEDS to get a blast finisher.
I don’t know actually. I think I’ll be happy with whatever they show me.
A burst skill with some bleeds.
A movement skill that leaves a poison trail.
A cc skill that also torments.
A utility/well/mark skill.
All while also dealing enough damage to place the Necro in top 4 DPS classes given the class has no group utility whatsoever and the amount they’d have to give us with the specialization would be so astronimical that the class would have to get nothing but group skills to counterbalance it.
But seriously… a direct clone of the Ranger’s greatsword that had good DPS and also supported a condi build would be amazing.
I would like a movement skill that doesnt require target. makes travel better.

I want a cleaving power weapon based primarily on control. 1 is hopefully the AA we saw with Marj, make 2 a burst skill (a PBAoE) that blast finishes, 3 some kind of quasi-gap closer, 4 leaves an Ice Field, 5 throws out chains that have some kind of over-time effect, and if re-activated pull the enemies to you.

was the only ones i’ve tried so far and out of the 2 the guardians feel less clunky

A versatile weapon and a new playstyle.
I hope that the GS has utilities for both condi and power builds. I mean, half our builds are condi, and if we get switched to full power, half my gear is useless for the spec, and I personally dislike the staff, its slow, clunky, has crap damage, but some utility and as a condi user I am forced to take it.
I hope we get some sort of burst skill on number 2 consistent with all other greatswords, and some sort of shadowstep-pull. Otherwise I want finishers and really solid life force generation.

If you want dps equal to other classes we better hope we get some big damage mod traits in the elite spec line. Which is unlikely. Either that or the GS will have really high base numbers. Which is even more unlikely for balance reasons.
The cleave is probably a safe bet though.
As long as it has a leap I would already be pretty happy.
I think i’d be satisfied if the auto attack cleave and if there is at least 1 whirl finisher on short cool down… Oups sorry… with wells being baseline ground targetable, they will be a pain in the kitten … Forget about the whirl, it will be boring to play with combo while always wondering where the hell my mouse curser is.

skill 2 poison blade – slice down on the ground creating a line of poison in front of you
skill 3 dark retreat – stab the ground then evade backwards , press again to travel slowly back in a dark mist when arriving blast the area and fear foes (cool down bonus if not activated second stage)
skill 4 death awaits – leap at your foe if hit them gain 3 sec stealth when stealth ends apply torment to near foes
Skill 5 Blood bath – spring a blood fountain from the ground (ground targetable) grants allies regen 10 secs and gives foes 5 seconds of weakness and reveal plus damage
I hoping the new spec something along the lines of reaper or vampire lord
Really I’m more interested in things I don’t want to see. I don’t want to see it require a trait to be useful, like axe. I don’t want to see some weak siphon skill like dagger. I don’t want to see one dimensional skills. Or minions. Or something akin to every attack being a mark. Or more auto attack power.
I want a well rounded weapon with every skill offering something and most of the skills being varied and valuable.
Move name ideas
Blast: Necrotic Inferno / Unholy Purge (either applies burning or boon strip)
Leap: Soul Stride (gain life force on hit, perhaps even brief swiftness or cripple target)
Invuln: Acid Cloud (aoe poison effect)
Aura: Flesh Armor / Bone Armor / Poisonous Presence (-10% damage and/or applies poison when hit)
Block: Minion Wall / Barrier of Minions: (perhaps with knockback and initial bleed or torment if enemies are within the radius of the skill) maybe even a secondary, chained skill where you could blow up your wall for a blast finisher and aoe bleed effect.
Things I would like to see generally:
- Cleave, high(er) DPS and finishers.
- A leap. We already have issues in pvp/wvw closing in on enemies. Making the GS not have a closing ability would make its usefulness minimal.
- Some Soft/Hard Condi application on non-AA skills, to give something for condi only builds and make the weapon work very well with hybrid builds (not a big deal if this doesn’t happen).
- An area Orders/Spirit Weapon skill effect akin to GW1, where the next attack(s) do “x.” The other option is that this becomes f1-4 specials that draw from LF and unlock via the specialization.
- A block, absorb, reflect or movement restriction skill of some type.
I guess we will find out tomorrow or Friday.

I actually like this. But skill 4 would lower our dps with stealth stopping auto attack.

GW2 is too shallow to allow for that. You’ll get your lava font and blast finisher and like it.
I want a movement skill that i can use to get around faster.
I want a Bone-Cage on #5 that appears around the point the E-necro is standing, trapping enemies inside and forcing them into a 1v1 (or 1 v minions+necro) and/or to stand on top of our wells.. After X seconds the walls will explode and deal massive damage, but they can be destroyed by the enemy to escape (although it might be best to balance it in a way that it can only be destroyed by the help of an ally/only from the outside…). No escape unless its a true teleport like mesmer portal either.
I’d really cry if they made it have 2 AA’s though… There seems to be that Mesmer-GS animation on the Necro-GS aswell… Imagine having one close ranged and one ranged AA as our GS-gimick (cause Caladbolg has this), that would suck major kitten . (imho obviously).

I like the idea of this. Sort of like thief’s withdraw or Ele’s burning retreat, or mesmer’s phase retreat. Would be cool if it was: stab the ground, causing an effect (dmg/cc/lifesteal), become invulnerable for 1 second and teleport backwards.
I’m PRETTY sure life stealing will be on the sword. I feel like the red colour is an indication of that. I may be wrong, but… tomorrow we shall know
I think I’m almost more excited for the traits. Mesmers got that 25% movement speed on their 3rd minor… perhaps we’ll get something like lifestealing when enemies hit us, or life force when hit… would be quite kewl. Maybe we get moar burning? :o

melee w/ lots of cleave (and field triggering abilities) is what we really lack…and from a PvE perspective, the weapon set we need most. mesmer GS would be fun, but range isn’t a big problem.

Greatsword:
AA: 3 skill chain (3 target) good damage with Chill (1s)on last hit.
2: Big Damage (5 target) cleave skill with Poison (4s) condition.
3: Leap Skill (3 target) 900 unit Cripple (4s) condition on hit. Leap Finisher
4. Block Skill (Fear target if block goes off [1s]), cancel block effect to gain small amount of life force and AOE (5 target 240 radius) Blind (4s). Blast Finisher
5. Daze or Stun (single target) minor damage.
Basically its very close to Ranger GS but with more of a necro theme.

Inb4 we have Melee AA on #1 and Ranged AA on #2 like Caladbolg. I mean in the trailer the GS-Necro did use the Mesmer AA animation after all… (oh god , please no.)
Or our new class mechanic is a stance that only works with GS equipped ans switches between two sets of GS skills, just so Necro will be the only elite spec that cannot use their new mechnics with the old weapons.
Caladbolg have just the worst skill possible. I can still remender how nightmarish was this kitten chapter where I had to use this horrendous weapon (And it’s been 2 year already that I did it). Never ever again I’ll do this story path.
