Its fairly common knowledge and, atleast in my opinion, incredibly sensible for Reaper to recieve changes so it is viable as a power spec instead of being a Chill Whirl based Condi.

But what would be on your wish list for these changes?

My first would be a trait like Reapers Presence – Nearby Foes take additional Damage, this is doubled for damage done by the Reaper.

Give the Reaper a unique buff that gives it a reason to be in High end Content.

At HoT launch, the devs said that they wanted Reaper to be a slow moving “Jason-esque” type of monster that did a lot of damage when they got in range. Mobile classes do the same, if not more damage than Reaper. That should change.

Change for reaper?

I’d like anet to forget about their whole gravedigger fail thingy. I’d like them to simply rework the skill so that it dooooeeeeessss noooooooot feeeeeeeeeeeeeel sooooooooo slooooooooooow and that they give a proper greatsword trait to the line.

And to be honest I’m fine with the fact that the spec work both for power and condi. I feel like this kind of design is better when it come to e-spec.

No core profession should be balanced around an optional elite specialization.

Only issue is it doesnt work for Power, which for a spec designed for Power is a little depressing. Also Yeah I also dislike Gravedigger its my least favourite GS skill, only worth using when foe is below 50% then you just spam it….

I’d like to see something that really uses the power stat well, instead of relying on condi play. Years of this condi meta has made me shelf my beloved reaper quite a while ago, even though he is very effective. So many people preferr facerolling a condi build with rediculous stats that its just not fun anymore. But thats me, I know a lot of ppl like that.

I always liked direct dmg. Condis is way to passive for my style of play. Feels a bit cowardly.

1) Trashsword becoming at least Mehsword

Its a concept weapon with 2-Autoatacks.
The problem is that even the “almighty hurrr durr big hit mommy get camera” is actually equal dps to thief autoatack.

That is with all its pre-required conditions and fail options. The necro and thief dagger used to be equal but they speed up one cz a 3rd class was broken and did 0 for our dagger

Also the trait effect on both shouts and GS trait is garbage. I wrote once that GS-2 should have superspeed + evade frames …. AND IT WOULD STILL be about equal iin counterplay mindgames to rest of game

2) Adding functionality to above trait, currently there is none

3) Improving GM trait ReaperOnslaught
-the 5s CD reduction SHOULD POP MID CHANNEL , CRUCIAL FOR PERMA SPINING ON TRAHS MOBS
-preferably improved it , like if last hit of RS-2 HITS you get the 5s (dash reset basically, fun in PVE, decent in PVP)

4) INSTANT UNBLOCK SHOUT FOR MINDGAMES like warri signet

5) Better DPS and a debuff for PVE

With Scourge looking like it may actually be able to out tank reaper through high condi damage good amounts of barrier and Parasitic contagion never turning off as it doesnt have a shroud I would like to see some more damage focus on reaper.

Evade fram on GD would be nice but would have to lose its reset (which i have no problem with as GD spam is terrible anyway)

A block shout would also be Incredibly nice but I doubt we will ever see it.

Most of all I want a reaper specific boon/buff to give to its team
I like the idea of, Nearby Allies Critical hits deal a bonus X% damage, this is doubled for the reaper itself. There isnt really a Crit damage boon in the game and it would really place reaper in the power mindset.

I’m going to play semi- devil’s advocate here, and say that I don’t like the pigeonholing Anet is moving towards. Each elite spec should be able to benefit condition OR power play. I haven’t looked at Scourge too deeply yet, but here’s what I see could make Reaper good for both power and condi depending on how you play.

Deathly Chill (public enemy #1): I have two variations on this-

1) make the PVE version the same as PVP (1 stack, 8 seconds). That makes it less OP but doesn’t help power builds. But even with 1 stack it’s not horrible for conditions.

2) remove Bleeding altogether. Gain Might and apply Vulnerability when applying Chill (at the same time remove Might from Chilling Victory and eliminate the ICD). 2 stacks of each. 1 second ICD, maybe 2. This one I like the most for multiple reasons. Both Might and Vuln help power builds and condition builds. I know Spite builds those (and axe auto) but face it- Power Reaper doesn’t get nasty until the foe is <50% due to the Spite traits being the way they are. This would make Power Reaper have more consistent damage output regardless of the enemy’s health.

Reaper’s Onslaught- attack 15% faster while wielding a melee weapon (doesn’t have to be in shroud). Greatsword too slow? Well there you have it! Boosts dagger output at the same time for those who want that. Nice DPS bump for power builds. Doesn’t offer enough for a condition build to take over Deathly Chill. Keeps the Ferocity buff.

Soul Eater: keep 20% recharge reduction. ALL GS attacks steal health. Lower amount though, due to the AOE/cleave of the GS skills. Probably between 30-50 per strike, not too different from that Blood trait.

Nothing Can Save You: Keep the unblockable buff. Block attacks for 1/2 second for each foe this shout strikes. Increase recharge to 30 seconds.

Basically to make Reaper viable, give it the +damage % traits we need to become an actual source of selfish dps as we were supposed to be.

Soul Eater: remove the life steal on Gravedigger and revert it to the old beta life steal (all attacks when using a Greatsword) and add a straight up damage boost of about 10% to Greatsword skills.

Cold Shoulder: Add a +10% damage vs chilled foes. Why we never had that from the beginning, I do not know.

Deathly Chill: Every time you chill a foe, deal a power scaling amount of damage.

Chilling Scythe – Reduced cast time to 0.75s to make the rest of the auto chain.

Also a few adjustments to baseline traits:

Spiteful Talisman: Increased bonus damage to +10%.

Strength of Undeath: Move to Major second tier trait. Change to you deal +10% damage while in shroud. Shroud skill recharge is decreased by 20%.

Vital Persistence: Move to Minor third tier trait. Change to Max Life force is increased by 15%. Life Force drains 50% slower in shroud.

Surrender and serve me in life, or die and slave for me in death.

soul eater changed to: Reduces recharge on greatsword skills. Greatsword skills siphon health when striking chilled foes.

Shivers of Dread adds a 20% damage modifier when striking feared foes, or effect being changed to become a 10% damage modifier vs chilled foes.

Deathly Chill changed to: Gain a stack of deathly chill, increasing your damage by 2% per stack(max stacks 5) when striking a chilled foe. (reaper’s personal gotl when applying chill) Alternatively, to be more supporty: Chilling a foe applies deathly chill to them, increasing all damage they receive by 2% per stack (max stacks 5).

Forgot some necro traits. Spiteful renewal: When struck while your conditions meet the threshold, cast lesser consume conditions. conditions removed 3, health per condition 362.

See the thing is the base damage of Greatsword’s attacks are almost all better than thief staff. Thief is just faster (as you said) and have more damage modifiers, which is what we need.

I would Like to see a Reapers Onslaught that can be as is, but also applies to GS. It would give a decent damage bump to a class that is meant to hit hard, and would be a decent selfish option. Then Blighters Boon could be the selfish tanky option with a slight change for potential Condi Cleanse. Then a team damage bump to replace Chill Bleeds…But this is probably too much to ask. Just Make power semi decent please Anet, it sucks playing such a power focused spec then having to be Condi

GD Life steal either doubled or shifted to build life force.

Reapers Onslaught affects GS as well.

Bleed on chill changed to “Targets affected by your chill take 5% more damage from conditions. Apply one stack of bleed on chill.” (Grp Support option you can take in a condi heavy comp. While taking reapers onslaught in a power heavy comp)

Signet of spite changed to a stacking passive power buff reliant on hitting targets. Lower initial and requires maintenance but ends up around 50% stronger when fully charged. Can only build one stack per second. Fades if you do not strike a target within 3 seconds. I.E. a buildup passive that requires you to maintain attack distance.

GS3 Vuln Duration increased by another 2 seconds.

Reaper’s Onslaught applies outside of shroud as well.

GS trait changes to reducing cool down on GS skills and they steal a health.

Spiteful Talisman does +5% damage to foes with boons (strips one boon with attacks [5s cd]) and +10% damage to foes with no boons. Focus skills recharge faster.

Cold Shoulder allows for +10% damage against chilled foes.

Blighter’s Boon applies to all boon you gain, not just those that are self-applied. Applies to allies as well.

Reaper’s Might applies to all 1 attacks.

Signet of Spite keeps it’s passive effect but changes it’s active effect. Could make it either a hard cc or a skill which reflects 20% of all incoming damage back onto its source.

And blood magic should at the very least get FAR better life stealing values.

I’d like to see an absurdly high melee bonus damage.
Something like 25% bonus damage to enemies within 300 range or something.
Even that might be too low, tbh. What with things like thief being able to do comparable damage to our gravedigger with staff 5 which is both spammable (sort of), and has a shorter tell. Not to mention evade frames.

What a circus. Complete with clowns and monkeys that do tricks.

Never going to get a single thing that gives 25% even thought it still wouldnt make power dps that close to Condi.

I think a few % modifiers and then a minor trait juggle, replacing shivers of dread with
“You and your allies deal bonus critical damage to chilled foes, reaper also gains 10% chance on crit to chill” With the bonus critical being something around 10%. This gives a decent party buff that may let us be a little more useful, without really giving up the selfish aspect of the class. And firmly places the spec in a more power situation with a bous only to crit damage.

Executioner’s Scythe damage scalling changed. 2% more damage per 1% missing health. In PvE, the scalling could be even higher, 3,5% for example.

I’d like Reaper to take execution theme up to the next level, generally speaking. Even starting out a bit weaker on high target % hp, but going absolutely crazy when it gets lower. That would potentially give Reaper a good PvE niche for bosses with harder execution phases.
