What has happend to Necromancer?
You may want to try out a Dagger/Dagger build. It fits what you seem to want
Oh I had no idea they had actually mentioned or commented on the necromancer saying those things – knowing that change is coming obviously makes everything better.
Could you link me to where they mentioned the necro?
@Delryn (Since I can’t use the forum quote)
“Technically all of them, but obviously Thief, Mesmer, Necro need the most help. We now have 5 weeks left and are 100% focused on bug fixing and balance, which include a lot of creating new viable builds. For those not familiar with game development, that is a lot of time, especially with the really smooth build making process we have. I should probably post this in general too."
5 weeks before release
1 update since live- spectral walk buffed.
I too feel better knowing that change is “coming”.

everytime I read “necro UP” I have to laugh. if you know how then you can stack a 20 stack of bleed in no time and removing it via condition removal is non issues as all the skills have decent cooldowns… necro is boss in spvp. just because some things dont work does not mean the class is up.
I’m looking forward to the day where most of my traits, skills, weapons and mechanics wont be bugged or nonfunctional.

You might wanna try a different class in the mean time. Unfortunately, there isn’t going to be a miracle patch that fixes the entire class in one go. Always gradual and slow for the sake of balance.
I started enjoying the game again once I rerolled.
And then Jon Peters tells us that the problem with our class is we are not using Death Shroud optimally.
I believe John Peters. The original post in this thread supports the position that the Necromancer community is bringing a lot of preconceived notions to the class. That shouldn’t be used by him as an evasion regarding bug fixes, though.
The earliest references to Necromancy occur in the Odyssey. Odysseus practices Necromancy in order to find a way home. Necromancy is by definition magic used to contact and raise the dead, and evolved many times into other things such as prolonging life by becoming undead through magic. The GW2 Necromancer fits the description. I’m really enjoying mine.
Why would you play a class that you don’t enjoy?

Would you kindly shut the kitten up about this? It was amusing at first but taking this quote out of context is ruining polite discussion on these forums. The only point he made was that the metagame surrounding Necromancers will evolve as more Necromancers find different ways to employ Death Shroud. As it is a unique ability, this requires extra balancing focus. Nowhere is it implied that Necromancers were at par strength nor that Necromancer players were the primary problem instead of the class.

Trying to berate me for degrading a “polite discussion” by prefacing your rebuttal with “Would you kindly shut the kitten up about this?”.
You are not making a convincing argument here.
I dont know about sPvP but for sure Necro is not underpowered in PvE. Infact.. I was playing Ranger and My friends STOPPED leveling while I leveled my Necro up just so I could catch up and once they saw the AoE Bleed and condition spread they were stoked they waited.
I do wish I could really go MM but seeing as how it seems so weak compared to Conditions I will wait tell it gets a buff.

That’s not a rebuttal. I just want you to shut the kitten up with the, “Jon Peters said!” bullkitten.

@Dibrom
Thief and Mesmer don’t need any help. Thief have the pistol whip which is so high damage it’s not funny. They also have heartseeker which so high damage it’s not funny. They also have unload which can be used 3 times in a row at high crit dmg which does so much damage it’s not funny. Mes can turn you into a moa, which IS funny. They just have low damage in PvE but rock at PvP.

@Ascii:
but we’ve had ANet mods saying there working on fixing all the bugs and tweaking up the class and they know Necromancers need the most love right now.
remind me what happened last time they said we needed love?
@Calcifire:
Axe got nerfed.

please share with us that amazing bleed stac in NO TIME. LOOOOL
everyone know how to stack 20 bleed especially on golem, they are still they dont move you can be on melee and still you dont apply 20bleeds in NO TIME, not even in 5s like warrior/ranger.
but please go ahead and tell how you aply 20 bleeds with no time especially on real players where they arent incredible stupid like NPC and they really dodge some of your skills and go figure…on tournaments almost every class is spec to remove conditions

He deserves to be slammed about it.
I am pretty kitten off that out of the 3 problematic classes: – mesmer – thief -necro
(i.e. the ones where the mechanic of the class stealth/initiative, clones and shattering, DS make it an issue to balance) we were the ones who got shafted, and obviously got the least attention considering the number of bugs. I actually rolled the class betting it would be slightly OP on the survivability side come release given their comments but it didn’t happen. And plague while you do nothing or death shroud while you do nothing doesn’t count.
Anyway, I am happy with some of the fixes but it is taking too long so I have rerolled. Risk v reward in this game is borked.

Yes… NO WHERE it was implied that the Necro has a high power ceiling, and that players just don’t know how to play them yet…. NO WHERE.
“Death Shroud is very powerful because it gives Necromancer access to a secondary health bar which is is much more reliably renewable than normal health is for other professions. On top of that it essentially also gives them a 3rd weapon set that they can use to circumvent the basic weapon swap cooldown to reliably bounce between powerful skills in 3 different sets. For both of these reasons, Necromancer has a high power ceiling but also an extremely high learning curve.”
So instead of reworking DS and balancing the Necro, they say DS is too strong, so the Necro is weak in every other aspect, at least, other classes do it WAY better than the necro… condition damage, condition removal, survivability, power, AOE, even Fear… in no way is the Necro even remotely as powerful as other classes, nor do we know if they are going to balance them accordingly. Hopefully, once the bug gets fixed, they realize the problems and fix them. But according to some people who have played GW1, ANet is not known for strengthening classes, but nerfing them instead (I don’t know how true this is though).
(edited by DoctorWhy.3847)
GW1 Necro was OP. Plain and simple.
I’d wade into an Alliance Battle (12v12 matches) with my wife, a fifty-five (don’t know why 5 5 is filtered) Monk (pre-nerf).
The 2 of us would engage 2 full parties of the opposing faction… and win, with near 100% health 2v8+.
Later, I refined more… I would kill any melee with 100% health and in under 10 seconds (Assassins would drop in 4 or less).
I have video evidence of this, if anyone is interested. God help you if you were fighting a Necro 1v1.
Though, GW2 the class is very much… underwhelming by comparison to its GW1 counterpart, which I understand. GW1 we were OP, as aforementioned.
Still, the DS skills are pathetic, and its utility is almost strictly the 2nd life bar that used to generate very effectively, until Blood Is Power was nerfed in this latest patch.
Combined with that, other than D/D or D/F, or Staff if you’re running a Well-heavy build, you’re kittening yourself. Even the latter Staff needs much love, imho. A 2 handed weapon that doesn’t do squat for damage, and each skill associated is so situational that in a heated PvP match you may as well not even bother simply because every second is too critical.

I don’t know what game you are playing, but in tPVP, virtually every class can remove your bleed with little effort… good luck.

I agree. Playing a Necromancer alongside any other class makes the Necromancer feel innately weak. Jon Peters is an impolitic nitwit with a keyboard on these forums but making it out to be that he’s against Necro players or that the developers are against Necromancers is foolish and unfounded.

Against? no, not at all.
Oblivious, yes. Apathetic, maybe. How could they not be aware of a single necro bug when the class had over 100 of them? They only have a QA team of 7 and necro was the odd man out?
Look at the 2nd to last patch.
“Putrid Mark: This skill has been fixed to make it properly unblockable with the Greater Marks trait.”
Oh Gee thanks. Don’t bother testing the greater mark trait with the 5 other marks; your regression team is probably tired.
Necros are getting nerfed more than buffed. So while they may understand they need help they doesn’t seem to understand how.
Like the SG changes and the dagger #2 nerf a while back (in beta) .
If you ask me i think the problem is that ANEt is trying to hard to avoid classes from having useful support specs, so they nerf until they are hardly not useful. Why not allow people to have them. (I would say they just do not like healing period, but the buff builds that had great uptime for grousp have all been nerfed also).
I’ll admit I was surprised at how quickly a guardian swings a staff compared to my necro.
LOL “20 stacks of bleeds in no time”
Thanks for the laugh of the day.
