The developers have hinted that another class will be getting a portal. Given that the Flesh Wurm is already somewhat similar, I wonder if the developers are considering substituting/augmenting this talent to become a portal ability instead of simply a self-teleport.

Clearly only the developers really know what class is slated to receive a ‘portal’ ability.

However, if they did augment Flesh Wurm to provide a portal ability, how do you think this would impact the necromancer in both playstyle and group dynamics?

Well i hope necro’s do get the portal seeing as in gw1 they were the only class with some form of teleport (necrotic traversal)

Well it would break flesh worm as it stands right now, since it can be cast up on objects, and portals are a, at your feet kind of thing. I love to put the worm up on objects to keep him safe….

I think it is unlikely that we will be the next portal, and even more unlikely that they will put it on Flesh Wurm, who is already a very good utility skill.

I think it’s possible that we’ll get a portal seeing as we have lots of “ghostly” skills, so it could be a new spectral skill, but I don’t think they’d put it on flesh wurm.

It wont go on a current skill, it will be a new slot skill entirely. And i cant think of any class that would make more sense to have a portal. Possibly engineers, but i think a spectral portal on necro’s makes more sense.

At least to me, it would make sense on a necro as they seem to have the biggest in-combat mobility issues.

I think engineers with a portal would be too powerful – they’re already extremely powerful in tPvP with some of the highest burst potential. If they could just jump out of a portal, magnet you and insta-gib with 2 grenade barrages, that would be a bit much – in my opinion.

It was never clear to me if the devs meant a skill that actually behaved identically to portal (e.g. multiple people could travel through) or if they just meant some sort of long range teleport skill would be added to some classes. If it’s the latter they could simply increase the range of the flesh wurm teleport (currently at 1200 range) and be done with it. Flesh wurm as is is already a fantastic skill, but an increase in range would give necros more flexibility in the roles they could fill.

To what Skyro brought up, I would be less surprised if they gave us a skill that actually teleported at long range.

Necromancers are not going to ever get much in combat mobility, it would make us too powerful. However teleports are out-of combat mobility, and would be great. It would fix one of necros greatest roaming weaknesses, that we can’t get around very quickly. In tPvP we cannot fill the role of roamer very well because of this, same in WvW. Giving us a teleport doesn’t give us much in way of power, but at least gives us better mobility.

I could see a single person teleport being added to Flesh Wurm (hopefully with better range), and if we’re really lucky DS 2 will be changed back to a targetted teleport.

Make wurms have a nydus canal like feature
(those who played Brood War know what i’m talking about.

Necros no longer have teleport in GW1 so don’t get excited.
They probably going to add this on a thief or guardian (you know, they are highly UP so they need a buff -_-).

Wouldn’t that be something? I don’t see it happening, though, without a significant rehaul of the Necromancer’s utilities. Mesmers are good at portaling in large part due to their burst mobility (Blink) and invisibility, two things Necromancers just don’t have.

It probably won’t be Elementalists, as they have more than enough roles.

I’d love if they added a long range party teleport skill that teleports your entire party. Shame it would have to be restricted to your party though to prevent trolling.

I hope the necro gets it. Having been levelling an ele recently I’d agree they have so much diversity that they don’t need it. Portals fit the image of necros well. I personally hope it that Flesh Wurm isn’t changed though since it’s already useful.
