Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
What if you could use ANY weapon?
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
I would add main-hand sword with following skills:
1. Cleaving attack that applies vulnerability
2. Teleport to target and immob
3. part i: apply one stack of torment for each unique condition on target
part ii: steal all conditions from target and do % damage and receive % life force for each unique condition received
Would essentially be a hybrid weapon that gives a little more group utility with cleave, makes it more difficult for people to escape, and provides more interesting condition management skills since you can steal conditions and heal for extra health or steal conditions and plague sig transfer to someone else. Also gives necros more than one way to apply torment. Whether it would be op or not would depend on the numerical values/cooldowns of the abilities, so I’m sure it could be balanced.
Greatsword? Make it a melee condi cleave weapon. LF generation that scales per person hit, a leap that cripples, some poison. Then either make it a more damage focused weapon with things like torment and bleed, or more support/CC/tanky focused with weakness and chill; just depends on the niche you want it to fill, damage or support/control.
Honestly there are tons of weapon ideas that people have listed, ranging from absolutely full-chub inducing to meh but a few cool ideas.
i like the current options.. wouldnt add new weapons, just add cleave. i think we have some really great weapons
I’d use a mace with a block and cleave abilities.
Spear ad trident(on land), power and hybrid. Spear has a much needed leap, since.necros lack CC and mobility it would vastly improve us
I’d use a mace with a block and cleave abilities.
Shooting skulls out like a ak
A-net did say they are working on all weapons for all classes. Im interested to see what they come up with. Though I am hopefull for some type of melee mage warrior type theme for a weopon set.
An absolutely terrible idea, if you ask me.
GS with a leap, cleave and torment access, maybe even another fear.
There’s no reason to leave necro at the bottom of the pack for mobility and anti-pve (turrets & pets)
Dark shroud is more of a kitten mode than a beneficial mechanic and the extra hitpoints aren’t much more toughness than a warrior can come up with. Warriors can be way more threatening with the same TTL or greater due to the juke power of leap and threatening cleave attacks while in their natural form with access to everything.
Attrition on this class is a myth and a powerful base weapon like everyone else has would go a long way. I don’t like homogenization of classes myself but they are unwilling to do what it takes to make a true attrition class it seems.
Hammer, melee with cleave, daze/weakness/chill & torment access. Have the necro look like he’s channeling souls to wield it (like a mesmer channels chaos energy to wield a gs)
aka Thalakos Dralnu, Voxt Umultus, and Jalis Haafingar.
Vulgarity is no substitution for wit.
Shield
[#4] Medusa’s head : Stun target (range 300)
[#5] Gorgon terror : Fear foes (AoE 130)
Greatsword
[#1.1] Cleaving attack, grants life force (range 130)
[#1.2] Cleaving attack, grants life force (range 130)
[#1.3] Cleaving attack, apply poison (range 130)
[#2] Whirlwind combo attack (AoE 130)
[#3] Apply blind to nearby foes, leave a dark field (AoE 180) [don’t pulse]
[#4] Apply torment to a foe (range 130)
[#5] Apply freeze to a foe, projectile combo (range 900)

I think that there should be a quest in which Trahearne dies and you take Caladbolg and this lets you equip greatswords. As any class.
More seriously, let’s just take the Spear as a base weapon and examine that.
1a- Cleaving damage
b- Cleaving damage
c- PBAoE with life force gain per hit
2- Whirl and vuln
3- Swiftness and AoE damage w/ leeching
4- AoE cripple-pull
5- Target-based movement with bleeds
Really, necros should just get landspear as a weapon.
GS and dual swords! But, I’ll leave the balancing to my betters.
An absolutely terrible idea, if you ask me.
Why?
Hammer
#1.1: Swing your hammer
#1.2: Slam your hammer into the ground releasing dark energy that damages foes in a small radius.
#2: Leap with your hammer to your enemy weakening them (600range)
#3: Send out a cone wave dazing enemies
#4: Whirl your hammer damaging near foes and gaining life force for each hit
#5: Slam your hammer into the ground, cracking the ground open and unleasing souls from the death. Each soul that rises damages your foe. (Think about an ice storm but then the projectiles come out of the ground :P)
Can I has airplane wing for sword. Kk thx.

Greatsword
Auto Chain:
Reaper’s Slash – swing your sword in a sweeping arc.
Reaper’s Return – swing your sword back, sweeping upward over the shoulder.
Reaper’s Fall – Bring your sword crashing straight down, gaining 4% life force and chilling all nearby foes for 1 second.
#2. Death’s Call: Spin around with your sword once damaging nearby foes. At the end of the spin, stab the sword into the ground and yank all nearby foes toward you. Gain 1% life force for each foe yanked and place 1 stack of torment on them.
#3. Reaper’s Generosity: Lay down a Putrid Mark at your feet.
#4. Death’s Horror: Lay down a Mark of Horror.
#5. Reaper’s Consumption: Lay down a mark that when triggered will summon a swarm of black birds to attack the target (similar to hunter’s call). Does physical damage and bleeding. When the skill completes, the birds fly back to you, morphing into black and red orbs as they do, and replenishing your health.
By using marks this weapon could use the same traits meant for staff. Staff Mastery becomes 2 handed mastery. Greater Marks stays the same.
This could set up a vicious combo, by laying down all staff marks, then swapping to GS and laying down 4 and 5 (putrid mark would over write), then GS 2 for the yank. This would apply 11 guaranteed bleeds + whatever the minions do. 1 torment, poison, chill, + conditions currently on you and of course plenty of physical damage.
If you say OP, I say “Why didn’t you dodge?” You can see this combo coming a mile away. The Necro laying a bunch of marks at his feet, then the sword spin, dramatic pause as the sword lifts into the air, and theeenn the sword comes down and yanks you. That’s like all the time in the world to move away, or dodge, or block, ect.
I like. The 2h and marks idea but I’d rather see 2 new marks. I’d also tweak some stuff, I’ll have.to make something up for gs
I’d really only want main-hand sword/mace and torch. Definitely Torch. Something along the lines like this:
Will o’ the Wisps
Spectral
Activation time of half a second, CD of 30 seconds.
Call upon spirits to form a ring of fire around you that weakens and burns enemies. Enemies that die within the circle grant you life force.
Will o’ the Wisps: 5s
Range: 240
Burning: 2s
Weakness: 6s
Life Force: 5%
A skill to give the Necromancer some non-Well-based AoE, especially when stacking. Have the Burning damage be weak since apparently people got kitteny about Dhuumfire? Great for where stacking is vital and you’ll want both the extra damage from your side and extra attack reduction from your enemy’s side.
Reaper’s Purge
Call upon fiery spirits to remove up to 2 conditions on each ally and heal them for each condition removed, also damaging nearby enemies.
Activation Time: 1/2 sec.
Cooldown: 20 sec.
Range: 600
Heal: 250hp base, 150hp per condition removed
Damage: 950×2
Number of Targets: 5
Some condition purge to compliment a party Necromancer in PvE. While Plague Signet is pretty good, it can be dangerous to use in certain dungeons, and sometimes a purge is much simpler. My original intention was that you healed yourself based on how many conditions you purged in a party, not counting yourself. An ultimately very miniscule heal so Necro didn’t have 2 Consume Conditions, but a more utility-based skill for PvE purposes.
Mind you, these might sound either mediocre or busted, but I’m probably as horrible at balancing as ANet is, so bear with me, these are simply rough concepts. Very, very rough concepts.
Sword could be a caster sword ala Mesmer’s, used more for Minion Master builds since there isn’t a “weapon” for that build aside from staff (which is general AoE/support anyways).
(currently leveling: a Mesmer, an Engineer, and a Guardian)
Mainhand warhorn all the way.
- Auto Chain 1-Banshee Cry
-Blow your warhorn in your enemies ear, hoping it hurts them, inflicting vuln.
Auto Chain 2-Banshee Screech
- Make the sound several times worse sounding, inflicting torment.
Auto Chain 3-Banshee Blast
-Make a dark sonic explosion around you, being a blast finisher and melee cleave that inflicts blind ala ele LH!
- Elegy of Emptiness
Play a song that creates a creepy statue of you, inflicting 3 stacks of torment on the enemy, and the curse of ben-drowned (fear and more torment over time).
- Perish Song
Play a song that will cause both you and your enemy’s pokemon to faint in 3 turns unless they switch out before the effect is over. Chain with chill cripple and immobolize to ensure you both end up on the ground!
