What if you could use utilities in DS?
The Signet of Undeath + Vital Persistence would mean you no longer lost any life force over time. Coupled with other utilities and traits you would never have to leave death shroud in a 1v1.
Learn as much mending and medical info as possible so that it can be added to the Dream.
Become the first Chief of Mending and guide the newly awaken as well as those who want to learn.
SoU + VP still has you losing 4% LF every 3 seconds. And still, never leaving DS isn’t exactly meaningful, the only build that would want to do that is glass zerker necro, which wouldn’t want to take SoU, and would be easy to burst out.
real answer is , people that play other classes would cry to anet to nerf necro even more . and instead of testing the numbers themselves they would just go by what all the players said instead . it would not be pretty as to what would become of the necro
I would be happy to just see the cooldowns man.
The real answer is that necromancers/reapers could actually be desirable in small group content. If we had utilities that actually benefitted ourselves and our party like a reflect…that we could actually use regardless of being in DS/RS or not…then we could actually offer something to small group content.
Yes, ANET has proven itself to be all about forum balancing instead of balancing via numbers/testing, but leaving the class half functional isn’t the way to go either.

Sig of Undeath would still be one of the worst skills in the game if it worked in DS. You’re sacrificing a utility slot for something that isn’t a stunbreaker or a Well. You ain’t kittening wasting a utlity for 0.66 LF regen per sec.
I would really enjoy being able to use utilities in DS. But yea, Sigil of Undeath is pretty awful. 2% LF every 3 seconds. Yaaaay.

Your correct. I don’t use it enough I forgot about the 3 second wait >.<
Then I guess the only negative is you could be in DS so long you forget what weapon you have equipped.

The correct answer is always staff because max dps modifiers.
It will be hard to debate on focusing necro or war.

Mhh traited axe (not that anyone would ever take that trait) and greatsword (reaper) have the same modifier, just saying…
Ignoring that laughable axe suggestion, when the time comes for GS, GS/staff will make this question a moot point.
I would also be ‘fine’ with being able to see cooldowns. Though I would also love being able to summon my super long cast time minions in shroud, at least seeing cooldowns would be amazing QOL.

and signets
and spectrals
and corruptions
and wells
and healing skills
and elites
and i guess garbage shouts too
Because this is the least internally inconsistent way Anet !
Foot in the Grave could better, since you would have the stability to cast a utility of your choice without leaving DS / putting DS on cooldown.
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.
I don’t see any real reason why utility skills shouldn’t work or be used while in DS. I think I mentioned in another post somewhere, that the restriction was most likely due to DS originally being a unique downed state mechanic. So it made sense as a downed state in pre-release to replace all your skills with special DS skills.
When DS was turned into a second health bar mechanic with its own weapon skill set, Anet wrongly kept the “unique skills only” mentality instead of designing DS to synergize with the rest of the class. The no healing while in DS and other issues can be traced back to the same issue and line of thinking in my opinion.
Fortunately for us allowing utility skills to work in DS is probably the easiest buffs/fixes without any real drawbacks. Just allow their use/effects to work in DS and voila, Necro starts to synergize with itself much better.
