What is the best build or builds for PvE?
I’m in exactly the same boat! I looked over some stuff over at DnT but I didn’t find any of it particularly useful.

Probably the best place (at the moment) to find the builds commonly used in the PvE metagame is http://metabattle.com. The builds that the guys at DnT come up usually make their way there as well.
The current build most people use in PvE is the Dagger/X build which focuses on getting the most out of the autoattack chain on the Dagger while providing support to your party in the form of wells and vampiric aura.
There’s also another build that probably isn’t quite as high damage as the one above that Brazil came up based on Death Shroud that’s IMO more fun than autoattacking with Dagger. Brazil’s got a video about it on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBuwFe2Aaxk

AFAIK Nemesis is the first who made a guide on the DS build archetype. Nemesis concern has always been PUG and not speed clear since this is how he played the game. Hence why he came up with a highly autonomous but “inefficient in speed clear” build.
Brazil liked the idea and refined it further after that.
Known as Reegar Else, Linda Else, Xiana Else and Thorgall Breakstone
At the moment, I prefer berserker scholar stats and runes.
Blood Magic for vampiric and Transfusion
Soul Reaping for dagger and DS buffs
Curses for weakness
Dagger focus with staff as ranged and AoE backup
Consume Conditions, Spectral wall, Spectral Armor, and signet of spite with Lich as elite.
This is for most PvE. There are plenty of exceptions.
In some cases, Vampiric wells is better, on others a MM. Sometimes axe is okay when there is a shortage of vulnerability in a group. Sometimes scepter is okay in silverwastes on husks or when kiting is necessary due to too much hard CC or AoE. Don’t exclude options when the situation does not suit your standard build. I carry multiple setups at all times so I can switch when appropriate.

I doubt its more optimised than the one in my dulfy guide (yes its different to old DS build because specs changed stuff). Unless he literally copied the same build.
