I bought GW2 about a week ago and made an asura necro. i knew nothing about the game or class. i’ve grown fond of my little necro and wouldnt like to start over on a new main toon. But i came on the forums to fart around, and i saw a lot of complaints? what exactly are necros disliked for? are they the worst class or somethin? or do ppl say stuff like that about every class.

just curious what’s wrong. aside from the flesh golem cus seriously lol

For one the bugs, just the amount of them are so annoying. Yes we can still do well, and our power and conditions builds are ok but they could be doing so much better if we didn’t have so many bugs in our traits and skills. I copied a link from a page about our DS trait line not actually working right. Not a skill or a minor or even major trait the line itself not applying the correct amount to our lifeforce. We are still a ok class but we do have so many small things wrong with the class that we hope the up coming patch fixes.

This was confirmed to not work by a dev of the game. So its a huge issue to some of us.

One of our major trait lines that affect our core mechanic doesnt even work, as was confirmed by a red. That should pretty much tell you how bugged this class is.
(talking about the soul reaping trait line which doesnt give an increase in life force).
If its “the worst class in the game” i cant say. Necros can compete with eles and engies on that part. However, the upcoming patch apperently has 5 pages worth of bug fixes and class changes, so lets see how stuff changes.
All I can say sofar is that untill necro bugs are fixed we dont know how good/bad they actually are.

My biggest problem with necro appart from the bugs is the compleate lack of mobility, stun breakers or defenseive abilities such as blocks or stuns making them almost unplayable in PvP even though they can put out some heavy damage with conditions.
It also hurts me alot to see the current useless state of minions.

Not just bugs, our traits and weapon skills are just boring and underwhelming. We don’t have much build variety.

I think you’ll find plenty of complainers in the other class forums too if you decide to switch. Some are legitimate, for example: rangers pet mechanic…

My advice is to continue with the necro if you think its fun. If your into pvp you could give other classes a try in spvp. We are waiting for the nov 15th patch and we probably will get some bug fixes. Class design changes? I don’t think so. That will take a while I guess.

My point: Stick with necro if you like the class design and enjoy it. If not go look if the grass is green on the other side.

My biggest problem is that it feels like Necro is not part of the game….. Every other class have got some changes to them that either fixes problems or nerf/buff them…. Necro haven’t got anything of that, even though they have the most problems of all classes…..

The fact is simple.
Necromancers are weak, you don’t need to be a genius to notice that, you just have to try out another profession.

Traitlines lack of synergy, making most of power builds unviable, and most of them are bugged or useless.
Death Magic is a real mess.
Blood Magic and Life Siphon is weak as hell.
Soul Reaping is bugged.
Spite traitline is laughable in PvP.
Most of minor traits are completely useless.
Axe is the worse weapon in the game, its autoattack is a joke, but I can’t decide if it is better of the Staff autoattack or not.
The only “viable” power build rely only on the damage output of dagger autoattack and 2 wells, just saying.
Signets are ridiculous, they are on incredibly high cooldown and their passive/active effects are worthless.
Minions are stupid and weak, also traits about minion are spread among 3 traitlines.
We have the least build variety in the game, having access to the lowest number of skills.
Death Shroud doesn’t fit with our only viable build (conditions).

And this is what comes in my mind at the moment.
Necromancer need a huge revamp.

Sad amount of bugs.

And traitlines not giving very flexible choices for pvp. Specifically fixed traits which you have to take if you put points in some traitline. Jagged horror is a very good example.
