Which weapons you want on Necro?
Torch – based on an “anti” torch. AoE control weapon that involves chilling.
Hammer – melee control/support
Pistol OH – shoots jagged horrors
I could come up with quite a few basic themes for basically everything except bow, which I really don’t see having anything past condition arrows, which are kinda boring imo.
Shortbow- 900 range Power weapon, focusing on spectral synergies/themes and chill. shoot spooky ghost arrows
Sword – Power weapon with cleave.
Auto attack with small life steal on attack nr 1 and 2 and could have cripple on last swing since we’re so slow.
Nr 2, sacrifice X% of your life to blast the area for moderate dmg and give protection to self and allies around you.
Also to remedy the speed problem I’m thinking nr 3 as a power dot, binding you and your target dealing power scaling dmg each second for X seconds. Gives you swiftness and deals more dmg the close you are to your target.
Rifles- 1200 range, focuses on torments and fears.
Also, rifles look sick with light armor.
Realistically I can’t see them adding more than one weapon to the class for now. I realize they said they might add all of the weapons, but at the current rate of Anets updates it is simply unbelievable. I’d prefer if they made axe 900 range, and then gave us a cleaving melee weapon. Either a sword, or a hammer. That weapon would need team support as well as cleave, and maybe we would have viable power builds for pvp and wvw.
extra dodges, real stability, mobility skills,
burst skills, sustain, or good support. GG ANET.
Off-Hand Scepter as fear based defense weapon. Like shield and off-hand sword hybrid and their alternative. Skills… something like Riposte “Block your foe and fear when attacked.”(15-25 sec CD) and Spectral Dome “Create a dome around you that fear foes and gain life force for each enemy you feared”(40-50 sec CD) or Spectral Shield(Chaos Armor principle) “Create spectral sphere on yourself , which fear melee attackers and gain life force for each absorbed projectile.”
Gotta say id love to be able to use a shield aswell but as an offensive aoe pwr skillset to change things up from the norm of shield being defensive. I guess it could be the do aoe dmg to keep enemies at bay “defense” if you will.
Seriously tho make it happen just think of using a ghastly shield on a necro, it would make my day lol.
I want my spear on land xD
never blinking “specialist”,
I want my spear on land xD
Yea i mentioned that in a post in another thread that if ANET is really going to keep ignoring water combat and further removing areas for it(like they have in WvW+PvP) then they should just rework the skills, or even give them new ones, and make them land weapons. I would LOVE to use my Kam+Kraitkin on land.
Greatsword!
/DucksBehindDesk.
I would just like to sword with a cleaver and 1 mobility skill on it.
Any 2handed powerweapon with cleave.
I want a land spear more than anything. This would be my idea for one. I wanted to put a leap in so badly, but the #4 is as close to a gap closer as we will ever get on a weapon I think.
(edited by Damaein.6413)
give me a leap. don’t care on what. mace leap for lulz.
As true as Odin’s spear flies,
There is nowhere to hide.
Scythe with cleaving skills and Greatsword
If Necros get Greatsword, I see it as being a sustain-heavy weapon. Cleaving life force generation and siphoning would be great. I’d also like a skill that shoots out a projectile for a brief immobilize, then has the necro flying through the air toward the target for a massive siphon strike (and yes, a Leap finisher).
Hammer should be a heavy CC weapon. I’d love to see that one get a skill that creates a (fairly large) ring that applies a fairly lengthy chill to any enemy that crosses it (can’t be dodged through to avoid the effects, just like wall-type skills) and shrinks significantly in size over a few seconds.
Land spear with bleed, torment, blind, and cleave for short range.
Pistol or torch for long range single target dips with a channel, blind, cripple, poison, and a leap finisher/closer.
I would love torch, whip and scythe.
Whip would be a tentacle themed CC/Lifesiphon weapon. Close / midrange. Skillset would include a cleaving AA with lifesiphon, a well siphoning life, a tether/anchor like spell that binds the target to a 600 range area for 5 seconds, and a channelling lifesiphon+stun.
Scythe would be spectral themed (scythes would have an spectral animation similar like this while drawn, only more necro-ish http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20091209023752/starocean/images/thumb/2/2a/SO4I_Arumat.jpg/640px-SO4I_Arumat.jpg ). Skillset would be based around pure power close range cleave, soft CC like chills or cripples and some chasing gapclosers (like guardian sword 2 that cant be used for reliable escaping). Basicly a weapon for the “guy you cant get away from”.
Torch is a condition and support offhand, i imagine a channeled “breath like”skill that inflicts torment, with a short duration fear on the final tick of damage. A second skill that creates a field that chills enemies each second while inside, as well as increase condition duration caused by allies and/or decrease incoming boon duration for enemies.
Maybe Rifle or Hammer as a 1200 – 1500 Range power weapon. I cant think of a good concept for ranged hammer, but rifle could shoot bouncing spectral projectiles and short duration minions that explode for blastfinishers. I could imagine a high cooldown skill causing 3 or so ghostly /spectral ranged bone minions to float around the necromancer, which last for 10 seconds, these minions would mimic the autoattack whenever the necromancer uses it for small increased damage, and could be commanded one after another, to launch themself onto a target area for delayed damage and a blast finisher. Would be a strong skill with a high skillcap that needs good prediction.
I would like to see tomes added as and off hand weapon for caster classes. Something say a rabid tome of poison, or something. It would add a burst/blast finisher aoe of some sort, with maybe a short invis or teleport. That would be awesome.
It’s the chain I beat you with until you
recognize my command!”
Hammer: control/support weapon
nr 1: weakness, nr 2: AoE blind, … … …
Axe (off hand): movement control weapon
nr 4: Pull, …
Axe (main hand): 900 range
Dagger (main hand): Cleave
I’m against bows, guns and shiled.
Torch.. dear god the torch .. I was surprised when we didn’t have torch right off the bat… I mean a LOT of torches look and suit necros more than any other classes..
RIP City of Heroes
Just give me cleave on axe or dagger (preferrably axe though, makes more sense with that broad blade) and I’m good…
Torch would be nice though. And let’s never forget the possibility of a scythe
Here’s my Greatsword idea:
Sow: Cripple enemies struck (3s)
→ Tend: Gain 5% life force per foe struck
→ Reap: Damage enemies around you. Remove one boon from each foe with a condition.
Grenth’s Balance: Damages enemies. Deals more damage and removes Might from foes over 50% health. If you are below 50% health, gain health and Protection (2s) for each foe struck.*
Mark of Pain: Mark. Inscribes a Mark at your location that causes enemies that trigger it to deal 20% of direct damage they receive to their allies within 300 range for 5 seconds. Blast finisher when mark is triggered.
Gaze of Contempt: Fires a projectile that immobilizes a foe (1s) and marks them (4 seconds). 600 range.
→ Foul Feast: Leaps to the marked target and siphons health from them. Leap finisher. 900 range*
Withering Strike: Slash the area around you. If you hit a foe, you regain 50% endurance. Each foe struck loses 50% endurance.
*: Healing is enhanced by Bloodthirst
The idea behind this kit is to provide AoE sustain and damage. Dagger will provide significantly superior damage and sustain against a single foe, but Greatsword should come out ahead against multiple opponents.
Sow→Tend→Reap is intended to be an attrition auto-attack. It continuously keeps the targets in range while it builds life force and tears down their buffs.
Grenth’s Balance was an interesting equalizer skill in Guild Wars 1. Since the theme of sacrificing health has gone away, though, its poor use won’t be as punishing as it was then. However, it can still be a bad idea to use the skill. This skill is designed to help turn a bad situation around by reducing an opponent’s momentum. The ideal damage levels would put it below the auto-attack if the target is below half health, but significantly above the auto if they are above half. If you are in a losing fight, it will be a strong skill. If you’re winning, it’s best not to use it.
Mark of Pain is another skill from Guild Wars 1 that has been somewhat requested. This one wouldn’t be much help against a single foe (the original wasn’t either) but it would help drastically in teamfights and clearing trash mobs out in PvE. This also lets you get a bit of extra “uumph” from our three master traits that affect Marks.
Gaze of Contempt/Foul Feast had very different effects in GW1, but the names fit. The idea is that it is a massive (like ~4-5k in full Zealot’s gear), but well telegraphed, siphon that also works as a gap closer. True in keeping with ANet’s vision of necros, it really can’t be used as an escape.
Withering Strike, I’m not so sure of. It doesn’t quite fit the kit in my mind, but it does give the necro an extra dodge while denying one from his enemies, which can be a pretty useful tool. Still not sure I like it, though, and I’d love replacement ideas.

Your #1 chain is too OP imo. Sow should just be damage, Tend is fine the way you state it, and Rend should be Cripple or Chill. Ripping a boon away on the chain is too powerful for such a low CD. Perhaps the the boon rip can be added to Withering Strike.
Overall, I like the idea!
Precedent for boon strip on auto: Mesmer sword (3rd strike unconditionally rips boons). Likely a faster chain than a Greatsword would have as well.
Tend could probably be dropped to 2 seconds cripple, though.
I really just can’t see a Necro having anything to do with shields and swords. .-.
I feel like torch is the only considerable weapon here.
Really tough to see any weapon being added on MH, but I think the Hammer would work well with our initial toughness.
I thought the whip was kinda neat..

Trahearne has a greatsword and he is sadly a far better Necromancer than half the other people we see (although that isn’t saying much since they seem to have made NPC Necros a joke compared to the GW1 NPCs).

I can’t say I agree with that at all. Torches are used to carry flames and fire is an element of life. As far as weapons go torches are by far the most unfitting thematically speaking. A necromancer is not a warlock.
Dhuum. Or it could be an unlit torch.

Hence why every single torch idea that is very popular involves it being an anti-torch, a representation of our ability to corrupt. The torch doesn’t have to be lit, we’re magic, we could just as easily give it a magic “flame” that chills.

Duplicating skills is not the best idea. We have chill on focus.

We also have a chill on Dark Path, does that mean they are the same skill and focus shouldn’t exist?

It’s easy enough to do. Spinal Shivers is used primarily for the boon stripping, not the chill. Torch could have AoE chill as well, which necros really could use.
I mean that we don’t need 2 off-hand weapons with chill.
They can function in absolutely different ways. Focus off-hand is used for single target debuffing, torch could be used for AoE control and denial, for example through an ice field that applied very short durations of chill while you were in it.
can i hav rocket launcher 4 necro?

So another warhorn.

No. Warhorn is a melee sustain and chasing weapon. An ice field pulsing chill plus whatever other skill a Torch has would probably be ranged, or affect much larger areas, but not providing much in the way of sustain.
Cripple/=chill.

If adding a wep that is already in the game, I’d love to see necros get swords as a power-based cleave wep. Then we’d have a similar choice to make as thieves do of deciding whether you want to take sword for trash mobs/cleave dmg or dagger for bosses/single-target dmg. That and I imagine necromancers would look amazing wielding a sword (stygian blade, anyone?).
If adding a new wep entirely, i think a scythe that would take the place of the necros power/cleave set would be cool. I doubt they’d add that though as it is very necro-specific, and i don’t see other classes being able to take it. B/c of this i’d have to say it’d more realistically be something like a halberd (that warriors and guards could also take).
I’ve no idea what the skills on either wep would be like though besides the melee cleave AA.
The main point being, necros need a power-based cleave weapon imo.
Scythe I could see on Rangers as well, as the farming tool is probably most thematic on them after necros. Would probably fill the role of a control weapon for them.
I like the idea of a shield on necros. Personally I think it should be defensive. Ideally with a aoe fear skill and a block that generates lf on block.

I really want off-hand scepter for my necro as defensive/control weapon(like hodgins from AC)
And SCYTHE as two-handed power melee weapon for sure. And I want they to add it as soon as possible! xD
Thematically, I would LOVE to see a scythe! I imagine it as a melee cleave weapon with pbaoe condition application and other debuffs. Then I realised that I just described a non-ranged staff… :-P
However, that needn’t be a bad thing, as, let’s face it, introducing a new weapon would be huge amounts of work as they’d have to design a couple dozen different skins for it and introduce them in drops and merchants through every zone in the game. It’s pretty daunting! So maybe they should just take the opportunity to fix staff since it’s already got the cool scythe animation on the very uncool auto attack. Buff every skill and make it melee ranged, merge the existing 5 traits to 2,and introduce a new trait to make staff 2-5 ranged (similar to how the Wells trait woeks).
Then use the remaining trait slot to give us a trait for our anti-torch, which is also a very cool idea! ;-) chills and blinds and possibly some condition cleansing or transfer? (I know the blind is already on mesmer torch but if it also fits necros why not?)
I would also like to see, whether on a new weapon or an existing one, weapon skills that spawn minions. Not strong ones like our utility minions, little weaksauce critters like jagged horrors and the like.
Melee 2 handed scythe!! But if i had to decide from what weapons we have in gw2 … it would be greatsword… We could trade it for axe. And it would have to have cleave, 1. skill would be decent lf generator, one chill and poison and blind attack, one movement skill (leap?), one good lifesiphion attack and skill (5.) that make you invulnerable for 3 sec and all dmg done to you go to life force (to help with focus issues) or fear (since its template cc for necros).
