Why Rune of the Reaper is trash
IMO profession runes are meant to be useless. Don’t bother.
Reaper is the only one able to use this rune efficiently: we can inflict vulnerability on chill. So even 1s of chill means 3 stack of vulnerability.
Otherwise, yes it is weak.
About boon rip, I don’t think it’s a problem if they only rip one per shout. Except for mesmer and necro, barely anyone rips boon, which means that boon classes tend to dominate PvP. 1 per shout is hardly OP.
People can create boons almost as fast as they create conditions, so it makes sense to have an “inverse soldier rune”.
If 6th bonus of reaper runes corrupted 1 boon on shouts. It would just take 2 players on an organized team to run shouts to make pvp apocalyptic. Do you honestly think players have enough utility, to survive teamfights while having their boons being constantly corrupted and having conditions applied to them that aren’t from boon corruption.
If you have considered this then you understand that this change is too overpowered.
And yet, 2 players can spam AoE boons like there’s no tomorrow. A spam so strong that a necro fully dedicated to boon corruption can’t even halve the number of boons a single opponent has on average. There’s clearly not enough boon hate. Far from it.
Better obliterate Blighter’s Boon than toning down boons! Boons are life! Boons are everywhere! Boons rule supreme! All hail Boons!
If you dedicate 2 players to run the condi cleanse for the whole team, you end up with conditions being useless for the enemy. Why would boon be different?
Running this would come at a high cost. Most shout classes use their shouts for support and condition cleanse. Going for the boon corruption means not as much condi cleanse.
There is not enough counterplay to boons, I don’t see why boons would be such a holy thing that we should not allow skills to remove them. 1 boon per shout is not much. Shouts have typically 20-30s CD. If you run 3 shouts, you would have 3 boon ripped every 20s. How is that OP? A shatter mesmer can remove 4 boons every 12s just with F1 (and they have other shatters). Signet of the locust “on his own” can remove 2 boons AOE every 24s.
This would fit thematically and would provide a very nice game play where boons stop to rule supreme and may have some counterplay.
Note also that I suggest “rip” boon and not “corrupt” boon, which is not as strong.
I have not tried Rune of the Reaper but it looks like it needs axe/focus/greatsword, Spite, Soul reaping, and Reaper to work. Trait for vulnerability on chill, then crit chance. This should be good for Valkyrie armor.
Anybody that watched ESL tournaments saw how crazy the amount of boons people were getting from the new elite specs. It really wouldn’t hurt the game that necros get a boost in boon corruption. Someone has to do it because it’s just too much right now with full groups going perma max might, fury, swiftness, protection, regen, etc.. Necros have gotten weaker and weaker at corrupting boons especially during team fights.
I would support corrupting boons as the rune’s 6th.
True, Necromancer boon corruption was nerfed slightly while most professions received stronger condition clears.
Reaper/Chill synergy can ramp up pretty high. With spreading on crit, might and lifeforce on hit, vulnerability on inflict (and extra crit chance against vuln foes), extended chill that reduces enemy damage to you, plus damage over time…those extra seconds of chill from shouts can be rather useful.

(2): +35 Toughness
(3): +50 Power
(4): +65 Toughness
(5): +100 Power
(6): When executing a shout skill, chill nearby enemies for 1 second (360 radius).

In comparison to other classes this rune is very powerful. There are no changes needed. If anything, it is much better than most profession runes.
- It applies to all shouts with no cool down time. If you are running with just shouts alone. 1-4 seconds of chill.
- Add-in condition duration, you are able to increase the duration of chill by 50% (pve) or 40% (pvp)
- Cold Shoulder 20% ,
- Sigil of Chill 20%,
- Sigil of Malace 10% (PVE/WvW only)
But wait there is more:
- Bitter Chill - Chilling a foe inflicts vulnerability.
- Chilling Nova – Critical hits against chilled foes causes an explosion that chills adjacent foes.
- Chilling Victory – Striking a chilled foe grants might and life force.
- Deathly Chill – Chill deals damage over time. [/url]
You really need to look at the reaper skill set, any changes to this rune would be a nerf to the reaper.
add in any of the new expertise amulets…..

I still feel like Scrapper is superior for any bruiser Reaper. 7% damage reduction from the runes within, what, 600 range? Which means that Soldier gear has the equivalent armor value (I think) of Knight’s armor, but with more power as well as vitality. That’s huge for a bruiser

Not much of an exception here. I believe a few folks have considered this on Guardians and Warriors, but virtually nobody bothers with them on Reapers.
Chronomancer is better on Necros than Mesmers, since Chronomancers already see high Quickness uptime.
Scrapper is really just good on everyone.
@OP: Main reason it’s trash? Its range doesn’t match the range of our shouts.
Its rather weak, i feel like the #6 bonus should be added to #4, with a range increase to 600. Then add a new function for #6 “Upon using a healing skill you remove a boon from every enemy within 600 units, gain health for each boon removed that way, 10s icd”
That way you get a rune thats really good for reaper (due to the low CD healshout) and not OP for everyone else.

Anyone who looks at the necro/reaper skillset sees that they already have a bunch of chill. They really don’t need more it stacks duration and more doesn’t do anything. Not to mention that 2 of the shouts already have much longer duration chills on them.
Imagine if Rune of the Herald gave 2 seconds of fury on activating a Glint ability. It would just be more of something that stacks duration which you already have enough of.
