Makes sense to me……. Is it because of lore?

1.) Yes, from a lore perspective GW1 established that Necromancers do not raise the actual bodies of the dead. We create our minions using the dead as raw material, more or less.

2.) That’s awful game design. Players would be spamming ground targeted skills uselessly all over your minions instead of the actual enemies.

I do miss the GW1 models though, which were much more impressive than rats with skulls.

Lore mainly; Risen are products of Zhaitan’s corruption.

Necro minions are assembled from life force and raw materials present nearby. Similar results, but far less “ebil” than directly enslaving a corpse.

Simply the Concept art for our Minions is a total fail. I would spend hours of study and free work to remake them..
They could use the Karka models too, from both hatchlings and mature karkas, changing maps and textures for Jagged Horrors, those mouse like garbage…

In short, the reason is to remove confusion in Orr. Necros would be either paranoid about minions or would pay no attention to the risen following them (until those blasted putrifiers FORCE them to notice)

Because those aren’t minions. They’re Demons, like everything else in the Domain of Anguish which is why they take more damage from Lightbringer Skills as opposed to Holy damage. They simply use the same models as the Minions from GW1.

A better question, is why didn’t they use the models from GW1? The minions from the first game look a billion times better than the current rush job.

Perhaps originally they were planning to have them morph with character level to look more powerful and we are simply left with the most basic ‘level 1’ models…

That flesh golem model makes me feel nauseous if I look at it directly for too long, needs to not look like a unicorn turned inside out with crab claws.

Apart from lore this is the most obvious reason. Fighting risen as a necromancer would be a pain in the kitten trying to figure out which ones were yours and if you were winning or not.
